  1. My phone was bouncing from 1x back to 3g all day today. It seemed like it was on 1x more times then not though. Could be just tower issues or they could have been testing towers today!! That'd be cool
  2. haha welcome to how the rest of us feel all day everyday. There is always little chance of me streaming music. I'm having an extremely good day if I can stream audio from pandora or iTunes radio.
  3. Bosox probably didn't see if you were a sponsor or not. You do have to be a sponsor to access that forum. You get access to all the towers that sprint has and see all the progress here in Utah and around the country. Its well worth being a sponsor if you donate I'm jealous of you guys down in Cedar City!!!
  4. I'm almost positive they will not even test LTE without fiber in place. I've seen those kinds of speeds plenty of times in LTE areas. It just happens sometimes. Those speeds are definitely better then the .2-.5mbps on 3g that I get.
  5. Something kinda funny...I ran a speed test last night on 3g and I got a -1 ping...Thats right a NEGATIVE 1 ping...I bet no one can beat that! And I got 0.00 down and 0.00 up. I laughed, it was pretty funny. I wonder what happened. Just wanted to share the anomaly.
  6. All towers even legacy towers should have 3g already. You must be in a fringe area or roaming or something. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying legacy 3g is great and you can still get 1980's speeds or worse with legacy 3g sites but every sprint tower supports 3g.
  7. Not every tower will get all 3 bands of LTE. The 800 LTE only about 80% of sites will get this band. This is because the frequency travels longer and can penetrate indoors better that there isn't a need for it on every site. I also think most of the sites not receiving it are in the IBEZ area. The TD-LTE should be getting deployed nationwide next year on almost every tower though. There are also about 100 sites for various reasons not being upgraded. So ALMOST every tower in the nation will get LTE 1900 (PCS) and 2600 (TD-LTE) but only about 80% will get 800 (SMR).
  8. To add just one thing the 800 LTE frequency will be useful for building penetration and getting a better quality signal at times.
  9. So 4g won't be giving you better service as far as your signal. The improvement that will help you that sprint is doing is they shut down their IDEN network and they are deploying a 800 frequency both voice and LTE. With the 800 frequency being deployed you should see better signal overall but we are still waiting for that to be deployed. There are some areas in utah that has it but not South Jordan. Also something to consider is that to my knowledge I don't think the GS2 gets 800 frequency for voice. I might be wrong though. I know if you get the iPhone 5s when sprint deploys the 800 frequency it will pick up the 800 LTE frequency and 800 voice so the 5s would be a decent phone to improve your signal quality. Thats just some info for ya/my 2 cents.
  10. So sprint officials came out and said that they will gladly hand over the H block to dish and not attempt to make a bid for it if all dish representatives including Charlie Ergen take a few days in each state and allow people to line up and kick them in the crotch. They also stated that there will be a "Fast Track" line for S4GRU members!! This seems pretty legit. Here is where it was blogged... www.creedthoughts.gov.www/creedthoughts. I'm excited for this day!!
  11. I guess I should add that its to prevent our speeds from bottoming out in a few years as well.
  12. Yes thats exactly what they will do. It will give them a 10x10 instead of 5x5 bandwidth which will increase our speeds Its all just for more spectrum to help data speeds basically.
  13. And even if nothing happens the fact of the matter is dish is trying to screw with sprint again and its asinine.
  14. You never know...they are a bunch of weasels those dish people haha
  15. Here are a few more articles I found that are a little more informative. http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/322525-fcc-divided-on-h-block-spectrum-auction http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/fcc-tees-h-block-spectrum-auction-sprint-dish-and-others/2013-06-27 http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/fcc-sets-h-block-spectrum-auction-jan-14-sprint-seen-lead-bidder/2013-09-13
  16. Found some news from the FCC that dish is now trying to mingle in Sprints affairs again. Sprint is to try and get the H block of 1900 spectrum in an auction on Jan 14th but dish is going to try and compete and make the spectrum more expensive like usual. Anyone want to go blow up dish? I sure do. Here is a link to the article. http://blogs.wsj.com/moneybeat/2013/09/16/dish-gives-sprint-another-hurdle/
  17. RSL Stadium!!! Oh yeah!!! This was at the USA vs. Costa Rica game this summer. USA won!
  18. You might have passed by a tower that is live with LTE. There are a few around here in Utah and generally smartphones are always using some kind of data in the background without your knowledge so that is probably where its from. As a sponsor you can see where the towers are that are live and I bet you have driven by one not knowing it. Robert has made the reports available to all non-sponsors and so you can see we have some LTE live towers so I guarantee you were by a live LTE tower. Usually sponsors gain information of where towers are from the sponsors section hence why when they disclose things in this open forum the "wrath" comes down because they had to be a sponsor to originally get the info in the first place. Seeing as how you are not a sponsor you can share anything you would like in this forum because you obtained some "general" knowledge. For example: If I went to a tower that I learned about from the sponsors section and posted things on this forum about the location or pics of the site ID or some other things thats not right because I only was able to go get that info because of the sponsor info I obtained. For you however...since you have not obtained any of the information from the sponsor section you can post any picture or information of that site including location that you want because it was through your own efforts that you learned about it. So feel free. You may not even have the correct cell site also. I've seen that a lot from members thinking something was happening but it was not a sprint tower. It is very worth it though to become a sponsor!!! Thanks for your extra eyes out there and welcome to S4GRU!!!
  19. It seems like I'm hovering around -93 dBm or less most of the places I tend to be. (Generally -96--101) That's why I was sharing from my personal experience and preference and stated that. Though what you said is awesome information and greatly appreciated.
  20. I thought all sites were getting the same backhaul? Some will get faster backhaul than others?
  21. All I can say is I agree with itchybum. WiMAX was so fragil and I never received the signal. There was only twice I got a WiMAX signal. With LTE being a fragil signal plus it being in a 2600 MHz frequency range I can't see it being very usable in our market. That's just from my experience with WiMAX. So if you just go with a dual band like the 5s I would say you aren't missing out on anything but this is all my opinion and experience. I will be interested on what you end up with.
  22. Honestly I'm not sure. For our market I'd say 1st or 2nd quarter of next year probably. What phones are you looking at? Are you in salt lake area and was WiMAX really good for you? Because for everywhere north of salt lake it hardly worked and I don't see TD being effective up here so I would go with any phone offering both 800 and 1900 LTE. Obviously if you get a TRI band phone then great. Personally that would do me no good here. I just need the dual band. Though I'm still waiting for a single band of LTE haha.
