  1. "very interesting" is a matter of perspective. Turning on towers in "here a cell, there a cell" fashion and keeping all of us spinning around the city doing speed tests could be interesting too. Oh I know, at the conclusion of red white and boom the LTE comes alive. Yes, yes that's it.
  2. I still have that problem. The only reason I'm anxious for LTE. But with zero site work being done in south east Franklin county and north west Fairfield county I think I'm stuck without it for awhile. Finally found out who's going on the newly constructed tower near US33 and Pickerington Road, that's AT&T and T-Mobile. I can see it from my house. Sprint is really making it hard not to switch,
  3. Has anyone said if this is 800 or 1900? By the covered distance it looks like 800 and no downtilt on the antennas.
  4. If you're having problems connecting to LTE and you know you're near one that's working, and you have your MSL code you could always go into your ##DATA# menu change your Others>HDR/1X selection to "LTE Only". Obviously don't forget to change it back to "LTE+CDMA+EVDO" or whatever mode you were on before.
  5. Curious what you get on other test servers. I've never had anything but high ping and low speed to their Columbus test server, on WiMax or on cable. Have you done the proxy server hack? Could be that too. If you think that every request is routing through a slow as molasses proxy server then it makes sense. I'm envious of your download speed because more often than not my DL speeds are 300-500 kb. I'm still wondering why Sprint hasn't enabled a VPN connection from the handset to their NOC via WiFi like T-Mobile does. It's so much more enjoyable to use the handset when you don't have to wave the sucker around to send a text or play the silver man when you're talking and find a good spot, don't move!
  6. Yes, They're not active to the general populous. The ones in the pictures I posted.
  7. Went for a drive last night around the Southeast Side, then drove around the South side this morning. I placed what I've found in a KMZ file and labelled each site with NV, EVDO-A or ERHPD. KMZ File here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/x93wgtp0d5agllw/Sprint%20Cells%20CMH.kmz What I've discovered is that a lot of sites are showing on the phone as EVDO-A and fewer are showing ERHPD. The sites listed in the KMZ as NV have the ugly hung 2 RRU devices on them. I'm curious how fast the speedtest comes back on the EVDO-A locations vs. the ERHPD locations.
  8. You haven't tried Netmonitor? It shows you quickly on a map which cell your on, carrier, bssid, your location on a map, the cell's location on a map and if you leave it running, adjacent cells you've connected to, signal level logging all exportable to kml for Google Earth, test mode access and free. I'll see if I can post a screenshot. I do have signal check lite so I'll know quickly when I connect on 800 when they turn it on. Here's the catch, of the sprint towers that I've driven past only 2 I've seen NV on, one NV tower is not a sprint tower. I've read that 800 wont be on every site because it naturally covers a larger geographic area. So now every tower I drive by is looked at.
  9. Where's the in progress thread? I couldn't find it. Unless its in the donate side. I live near the pickerington meijers and there's nothing going on up 33 to 104. Same for along 270 between 71 & 33, at least none of the visible towers from the freeway. I've only seen 3 NV sites. 2 in the pictures plus one neat 315 & Goodale. The towers going north of that one have nothing new. Looks like they're ay least building out, probably in other areas off the highway. I drove around Grandview and there's no new work there either.
  10. There's several sites that way and have been for at least two weeks. I've not gone hunting for them, these I just see every day. They just jump out at you because of the way they stacked the RRU's and I said to myself, "what is that horrible looking thing dangling off that tower?" All the site's I've seen between Goodale/315 south to 71/270 south look like that. There's work been performed on other Sprint sites that don't look the same but you can tell the new white antenna panel from the dingy old gray ones. Someone posted a pic a few pages back of one of those and said it doesn't appear to be an LTE site. I've seen that kind of work done along 270 from Morse Rd down to site at Main/Brice and also a couple sites along 71 near the fairgrounds. I'll have to take my SLR and snap some pics of those sites.
  11. That totally makes no sense but good for them. Might as well have been Ostrander. I'm sure there will be Columbus sites coming up soon since they've slapped up some NV gear. I took some pics with my SLR and shared them in my Dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ydtlynkzobhva7k/fOe6SYAJuu/Towers I'll place my bet on the last region to get it and that's far southeast Columbus because I am certain Sprint wants to extend my agony.
  12. Gentleman, I've noticed over the past couple weeks several sites along 315 and 71 between downtown and Grove City have had site work done. The pic I'm uploading is from the site along I-71 between SR104 and I-270. There's a site near the SR-315 off-ramp to Goodale Blvd that is really visible if you can get a view between the trees growing up around it, just not safe to stop for a picture. What's seen is a new panel with two RRU's mounted one above the other. Non-traditional but it's Ohio right? I've seen this at some Nextel sites also. I'll see if I can make something on Google maps to show where I've seen this. I also noticed a new tower structure being built on Basil Western Road between Diley Rd and Pickerington Rd just to the north of US-33. I'm not counting on Sprint being on it as they have a site less than a mile to the west at Diley Rd. So maybe the tower structure builds are another carrier moving in or a carrier filling in gaps. Here's where I've seen the antenna mods: 315NB/Goodale Ramp/Harrison Village 315NB/Dublin Rd (Nextel Site) 315NB/Sullivant Ave 71NB/SR204-Frank Rd 270EB/Hamilton Rd North behind Atlas Construction 270NB/Morse Rd (non-sprint site)
  13. Sprint's pushing out another software/modem update for the S3 phones, could be for your phone too. They told me about it a couple weeks ago while spending two weeks getting the airave working. Think about a 500 meg file on really really slow 3G connection, it will stop your data. Just jump on a wifi somewhere and it will download from there. I do hate their updates as they will kill your battery even on one bar downloading that file instead of waiting on a strong signal or being on wifi. My problem has never been making calls, sending or receiving texts or using data. it has been in receiving calls where they just go to voicemail. Trying to run a construction business away from the office and being reachable has definitely left a nasty taste in the mouths of decision makers.
  14. Has anyone experienced problems with incoming calls in markets that are pre-NV? Columbus market rolled out eHRPD months ago and starting in February all phones on my account began to "ignore" incoming calls. When I spent 2 hours on the phone with support, after wiping my phone, reset, reset, reset, OMG another wipe??! the recommendation was to take my handset to a tech store to have it checked. The tech checked my phone and it was perfectly fine. The tech checked my account and discovered something called "blocks" and said they were high. He also said it's a compatibility problem with new 800 MHz hardware that is being deployed and there are tickets opened to be resolved. Has anyone else had this problem in pre-NV markets? Service is horrible. I can make outgoing calls fine but it's hard to be reached if I'm not in range of an airave (I have two). I feel like a lab rat.
