  1. From my view here in the Southeast, T-Mobile seems to be quite aggressive. Not sure why they are less so in the Midwest, but there's a huge amount of network upgrades going on in Mississippi, Alabama, and the Floridian panhandle. Of course, none of it shows up on the map yet...

They've been busy in Louisiana as well.

  2. Yeah, it is way worse than Sprint's EVDO. But, you never hear anybody really complaining about it. Verizon's EVDO is now about as bad as Legacy Sprint EVDO and in some places completely dead.

Post NV, my EVDO speeds/pings are terrific, even though I rarely see it now that I have a G3.

Wish that was the case in Baton Rouge.  Verizon 3G doesn't hit 2+ anymore, but it's still at a very respectable 1-2 Mbps here.  Sprint EVDO is still abysmal in Baton Rouge, often times resulting in zero throughput on NV accepted sites.  I tried Tmo on the 1 week test run, and their speeds are fantastic when you are on LTE or HSPA, but they need more cell sites in the metro area like Sprint.  They also don't even have a cell site in the immediate downtown area.  So unfortunately, it's either ATT or Verizon here if you want a reliable cell phone experience.  Truly a bummer.

I played quite the LG g3 this afternoon and I really like the camera on it, It also like that it comes with the WiFi calling app

Where is the wifi calling app on the device?
  3. What they mean to say is that Ericsson theoretically continues to monitor and adjust sites based on 72 hours of actual usage data following a problem.

EDIT: I've noticed my ping times are halved today across my market. Speed tests are faster as well. They've definitely done something positive.

Same here.  It's noticeable for sure.

My Obi VOIP adapter will stop working with it as well. But hey.. I have had free home phone for 2+ years from them. Good run!

I've been using Ooma for the past 3 years and have never paid a bill other than the cost of the device (~$200) .  I will obviously ride this out till the phone adapter dies on me.  Ooma for new customers is still a good deal, as you only pay your local taxes.  Here in Baton Rouge, it's around $4/month.

  5. The NFL is pushing team stadiums to install or upgrade their existing Wi-Fi networks.  In Kansas City, Arrowhead Stadium now has a good Wi-Fi network.  In Indianapolis, Lucas Oil Stadium has an excellent Wi-Fi network -- probably beefed up for the Super Bowl two years ago -- plus, network installation is easier in an enclosed stadium.  I have not been to the Meadowlands since MetLife Stadium replaced Giants Stadium, but being such a new venue built with the promise of a Super Bowl, it almost certainly has a solid Wi-Fi network, too.

In other words, Wi-Fi is taking over at these events, while cellular data is becoming a fallback.  And that is as it should be.  Realistically, cellular data just cannot keep up with 60,000 smartphones in a confined area.

The Superdome did a massive update to its Wi-Fi network before this season started and it was very noticeable.

  6. No, we need to create one thread entitled "Mah Airwave don't work" because that would cover 90 percent of the content in the countless Airave threads.

True, but I will say that the Airvana is one of the flakiest devices I have ever used.  Multiple airvana units, used in multiple internet setups and households.  There is always some kind of quirkiness associated with them in my experience using the devices over the past several years.

  7. Tried that many times before even leaving it in airplane for 5-10 minutes.  It seems the reboot is what gets me out of the 75-100-75-100 handshake/handoff loop then it's a 1 in 3 chance it will happen again upon bootup.  Some of that Samsung "Enginerring"?

Surprised I haven't thought of this before now, but we should take a short video of the engineering screen when the EVDO channel is bouncing between 75 and 100 and send it to Ticket support.  If anything, it would just provide the network dispatch folks a better picture of what exactly is happening.

  8. Most of the voice issues are related to 800MHz coming online suddenly. Sprint has a lot of fine tuning to do. Currently, if you run out of 800MHz service, it will not handoff to 1900. You get dropped.

Yep, I've experienced this in Baton Rouge and just recently in Houston.  I dropped 4 calls driving through Houston while trying to talk to my wife.  And when looking at my signal on 1x 800, I was in the mid 70's.

  9. :td: Sprint just lost 5 port in phones from AT&T.  I was recommending my sister-in-law and her family switch to Sprint from AT&T for better pricing and service.  They agreed and just waiting for them to be out of contract this month.  I was planning on using the EPRP that is the same My Family is on.

Yesterday, I logged on and showed them the plan and even went through everything up to the point of checking out.  The MRC was $204.96 plus taxes and fees which was acceptable.

Today the EPRP is gone even though it is still shown and described all over that website but when you start shopping the New Unlimited My Way plan is the only option. So I went ahead and again entered the same phones and required data as I had done yesterday and the MRC is now $310.00 plus taxes and fees, not acceptable.

This wasn't a good idea but they were willing to do it.  This is just terrible timing on Sprints part IMHO.  Yes I know it may be a good deal for individual lines but for a family it isn't.  You are committing to a 2 year lock using phones that are NOT tri-band for NV best use and NV is at 50% complete (counting towers) at best.  It is non-existent in Ohio for the most part still, just like WIMAX was.

Not off to a good start for Sprint-Softbank-Clearwire.  Sprint's lost they are going to JUMP to T-Mobile and after 12 years I believe I will do the same next year when my contracts expire.

I would at least try calling to see if the EPRP plan is still offered before just giving up.

  10. Our staff have access to information about each specific site's data and how many carriers are deployed there. Most people assume that in markets where they have deployed the maximum CDMA carriers with available spectrum, then they are toast. But in reality, it really only affects one site here and one site there. It rarely is large scale or market-wide except in very few instances like Chicago and Houston.

So they still can deploy even in maxed out markets many additional PCS LTE carriers. And also they are deploying 800 CDMA now nationwide. So there are lots of options.

In DFW, there are only two sites completely CDMA maxed out in the market. Most were 25% - 50%. Typically only the highest capacity, the Top 5% of sites in the country are completely maxed out of spectrum. Chicago, Houston and Ft. Wayne are the only places off the top of my head where no additional LTE carriers will likely be gained. However, USCC spectrum is going to allow for that problem to be solved in Chicago and Ft. Wayne. Leaving only Houston.

Houston will be dependent on LTE 800 and LTE 2600 solely for LTE capacity in the future. However, this isn't all bad. It just means Houston customers will need to be early adopters of triband LTE phones for maximum LTE performance. Not the end of the world.

Sprint did a good job of adding synergy sites in Houston, so they have that going for them at least.

  11. Call into Sprint and make sure they have the proper ICCID on your account (numerical identifier for your SIM card which is needed to connect to LTE). Ironically I was traveling through Chicago last week (O'Hare and North up 294) and didn't pick up any LTE which prompted me to investigate my phone. I had de-activated then re-activated my iPhone 5 two weeks prior, and because of that process Sprint did not have the correct ICCID on my account. After speaking with three different reps the issue was finally resolved and I have no issue connecting to LTE anymore. Since you swapped phones you may be experiencing the same issue.

Interesting. This may be happening to my sister. She's got the Iphone 5 and has never connected to LTE in New Orleans. Thanks for the info.
