  1. Yep, and the funny thing about it was that I had gotten really fed up this morning as I couldn't use my phone for work reasons, so I shot an email off to the ticket support guys in OK letting them know about the issue. I got a response back from a rep asking me for the ticket number. I let him know there was no open ticket, but that there have been multiple tickets opened on this site for various reasons. Within an hour or so, I noticed my phone had a lock on EVDO on channel 175. I'm not saying it had anything to do with my email, but it was pretty interesting with the timing.

I will say I am very excited about getting LTE here, but I am even more excited about having a reliable EVDO network.

  2. No need to apologize. The "best case scenario" for CDMA1X Advanced capacity increases just does not bear out in the real world. It relies upon full implementation of CDMA1X receive diversity and 4GV vocoder. But you will not find full implementation among all Sprint handsets.

My theory, which I put forth about six months ago, is basically this: Sprint should move all postpaid accounts to idle on the one CDMA1X 800 carrier. Outside of stadium environments, it should have enough access/paging channel capacity to support all subs. For traffic channel capacity, though, the network will have to move calls periodically to CDMA1X 1900 carriers as needed and as propagation permits.

As for prepaid and MVNOs, keep those accounts exclusively on the CDMA1X 1900 carriers. They are not paying for 800 MHz.

    I love it!

Now will they implement such a theory?

  3. Thanks Robert, I am still new at this but I went where the map told me to go.... Maybe it's on another light fixture

Probably so as I know ATT, Verizon, and Sprint all have sites attached to light fixtures at Tiger Stadium.

  4. I always wondered if Louisianans liked the song, or thought it was a mockery. I think it's a fun song to sing. I sing it to my kids all the time to drive them nuts. My wife too. ;)

I don't really listen to country music, but I do like the stuff from 1970-1990. Takes me back to my childhood. But my family doesn't have the same affinity for it that I do. So I will find a Classic Country station on TuneIn Radio those times I'm by myself in the car and have a solid Sprint connection for the next 100 miles. And hope that Louisiana Saturday Night comes on. Ayeee eeeeee!!!

Agreed. Today's country is more like Pop. There's a lot of stuff in the 90's I enjoy as well. Other than Zac Brown, there isn't much new type country I listen to.

  5. I will trade you my downtown tower that Sprint refuses to fix. You get NO data.. No 3g signal at all! It's a constant dance of reboots anytime I go in the elevator and lose signal then come back out.

I think I am just going to start calling them every day until they fix it.

Ha, and I'm in Dallas this week, so there's one less user hitting the sector. I'm by the Galleria here, and data has been great.

  6. Maybe there might be progress in BR just yet. A site on a detour route on my way home had an ATT truck in the gate. There about 5 or 6 other trucks across the street. They had their little work area setup next to the manhole.

Could be install backhaul for the RRUs that have been up for a while or maybe just fixing the backhaul on the ATT side of the site.

    What site?

  7. My point is that the 3G networks are overburdened in Houston because the market is spectrum constrained. And also, Sprint cannot add more PCS LTE carriers for the same reason. For long term LTE viability, the Houston market needs SMR and 2600, no doubt.

Oh, no doubt. I wasn't questioning you there. I experienced the overburdened 3G network in Houston last week. I would assume Houston will be one of the first markets to get some of the 2.6 GHz hotspots.

  8. Deployment is nowhere near done in Houston and density will get thicker and thicker this year. This will allow for better performance. However, Houston will likely have some of the most saturated LTE 1900, because Sprint does not have a lot of spectrum in this market. There is no additional PCS spectrum to deploy on, really.

LTE 800 and LTE 2600 will be desperately needed for the long term viability of the LTE network in Houston.

Regarding spectrum in Houston, won't 1x Advanced help as they can configure the carriers for more capacity?

  9. Hope it's something like that. I stopped going to look at any sites around here anymore since everybody is gone. Only glance at the few I see on my way home now as it was pointless to waste the gas. I'll probably do a once a month check on a few of them.

I've been in Port Lavaca, TX all week, so I haven't been able to check anything. Just been following the progress in the New Orleans market from the computer.

  10. Not to turn this into another crazy discussion. I would die to have that thing in my backyard right now. I have only a 90cm right now for KU band. Lots of stuff up there to be watched for free..legally.. (no hacking here) Your jaw would hit the floor if you saw the quality of a 40 megabit 1080i football game. Watched quite a few football games on it even some that were not televised till the next day or some that were on PPV but the backhaul was in the clear with no encryption.

I'm jealous as I cannot stand the local affiliate WAFB, and their garbage of a feed. I'd almost be tempted to get the setup just for CBS alone.

  11. I only do device testing in places where there can only be one site and one channel and one sector that can possibly be connected. Otherwise all these observations are meaningless around your house.

In Waco, I drove out to the last CDMA/LTE site in the network on the edge of roaming. I did the same in Wichita Falls. Went to a small town called Electra. And I do the same here in New Mexico.

For radio testing, every device must be on the same site, same channel, same sector. And it takes a lot of time reverifying that during testing.

  12. Just now I heard that the site in Gonzales was signed off as complete yesterday. It is at I-10 and LA-30. Glad to see the purple near the Kenner site. My New Orleans source has been pretty solid so far.

am changing the Gonzales site to In Progress now. It will go as 4G complete in the update tomorrow.

    Robert

Awesome. I may have to head out to the Tanger Outlet Mall and check out that Gonzales site.
