  1. Anyway, in the mean time while I wait, I am playing with the display and so far rsrp on the one far exceeds my evo as well as the evo on display and the gs3 sitting next to it. I know this isn't scientific by any means but it looks like we might have a winner when it comes to lte performance.

Thanks. Looking forward to some real world experience though.

  2. Without rooting you can't change any of the system files to stop the update notification process. With root there are several ways of course.

On a side note, I do know the latest baseband/update has the LTE scan timers changed plus I found the threshold has been relaxed which allows the device to use LTE in more places even though it is very marginal signal. So I do highly recommend the update to any Note2 and S3 users but of course it does remove the PRL Write option.

Any chance you will make the digiblur rom for the GS3? :)

  3. The Note 2 performed nearly identically to the GS3 on Sprint LTE in my performance testing, despite differing RF testing numbers. Where the Note really differed in my testing is it would find the signal sooner without toggling than the GS3.

Yes, I find the GS3 picks up an LTE signal much faster than the EVO did, and it's also much better with fringe signals. It will sometimes pick up an LTE signal while sitting at my desk at work, whereas the EVO couldn't get it even after cycling the radio. I did prefer the hardware and the screen of the EVO more, though. "IF" the HTC One can give similar RF performance to what I have been getting from the Samsung, I will likely get it.

  4. Interesting.. I got my hands on a iPhone5 PRL. They enabled 800SMR for the iPhone5 as well but there is a HUGE difference between how it works and say a Note2 or S3. The Note2 and S3 will use 800SMR all the time when it is available. The iPhone5 will only use 800SMR when every attempt to acquire a Sprint PCS signal is made.

    To balance out capacity perhaps?

  5. I have had an Airave for 4 years, one in my last house and another in my current house. Works great and I never mess with it.

I wish I could say that about mine. My wife's EVO 3D refuses to be able to place calls or text while connected to the new generation Airvana, but data works while connected. On the older Samsung airave, both of our phones worked fine, but there was a significant delay while talking and then it started to create a lot of static on voice calls.

  6. That's not journalism. That's an editorial about Verizon's network. No mention about how Verizon LTE is dropping to 2-4Mbps in many places and this AWS spectrum is their only chance to save their network before it completely disintegrates. Also, no mention of the millions of Verizon LTE customers that will be stuck on a degrading LTE 750 network until enough people buy AWS LTE capable handsets. It will take years before the 750 and AWS LTE carriers can support even loads. Years!

Although the same can and will be said of Sprint LTE 800, at least we will not sugar coat or bullshit everyone in our article about it.

Robert, around here Verizon's LTE network hasn't really slowed down since it launched in 2011. My dad's work uses Verizon so I will play on his phone sometimes. It seems to consistently get 30+ Mb's speeds around the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. It was also really fast in Houston when we were there a few months ago. That's about the only experience I have, so it's a limited sample size.

  7. Anything new with the dead data ticket on the downtown BR site? I never received a response except for the automated email system one. I emailed them again this morning since data was dead once again... took me like 6 or 7 reboots to get off the dreaded channel 100 gimmick.

Just a phone call from one of the guys in OKC. He said the engineers are aware of the capacity issues and will continue to try and add capacity to the downtown site and neighboring sites. He said channel 100 was at 136% capacity at the time I was talking to him. But then he also mentioned channel 25, which we know is a voice/1xrtt channel. So who knows. Do you happen to know how many total EVDO carriers can be added in our market? I believe the busiest sites here have 3 voice and 3 EVDO carriers.

  8. Decided to drive by the Industriplex site this morning and I've got some good news to report as you can see. Today's weather is perfect, so they can probably finish the tower work quickly.

My pictures did not post very clearly, but one truck is MasTec Wireless services, and the other is Griffin Crane & Steel.

  9. Was wondering If I might have known you from way back in elementary/middle school. There was a J Zeto who was the same age as my brother at St Jude.

Nah, I grew up in St. Charles Parish and then moved to Germantown, TN when I was 7. Came back to LA in 1998 to go to LSU.

  10. Same experience here. I finally got over to 75, the typical evdo channel here, but can't get back over to the coveted 175 here.

Firing off some info to the network guys with screenshots about 100 here. I am sure they will get pissy and tell me to call 1st level again. Tired of discounts and playing on the phone for an hour, just fix that channel 100. Dead data is no fun when you just want to pull up something real quick.

I was on 100 when I got to work and data wouldn't work. I'm now on 175 and it's working great.
