  1. Root permissions have always been required to use the Reset feature in Android 4.2 and beyond, because Google removed developer access to control the radio in 4.2. An alternative method was implemented in SignalCheck last August, but a rooted device is required. The failure message you are seeing is new with the latest app update, version 4.19. Previous versions of SignalCheck were not displaying the error message (it was supposed to, but a bug was preventing it), but I assure you that it was failing.

If your device is rooted, ensure that SuperSU (or whatever root app you use) is granting SignalCheck root access. Sometimes the SuperSU prompt does not appear, or users have it set to deny access automatically.

If your device is not rooted, you will not be able to use this feature on a 4.2+ device unless Google changes the security policy in a future Android release. It is frustrating many developers, but the decision is outside of our control.

Okay I just wanted to check and make sure, I'm not rooted yet but I will be going down that route soon.

  2. If rf performance is your most important feature, I would suggest that you cross anything HTC branded off of your list. They build a good phone and Sense is a polished overlay, but I have yet to hear anyone say their HTC picks up a strong signal. My G2 picks up LTE in places that my old Evo would roam on Verizon 1x. 'Nuff said.

I agree, when I had my Evo it would have the worst signal for LTE unless it was very close to a tower. Now with my Nexus 5, I'm able to hold a strong signal in areas where when I had the Evo, it would have a weak or fallback to enhanced 3G

  3. New Nexus 5 owner questions:

    1. The phone is very nice. The feature behaving very strangely are the radios. This might be related to the CSFB, but it's not what everyone is reporting. I live in the DFW, TX area and have LTE working... mostly. However, what I see often is a problem.

    • The indicator says I have LTE (So does SignalCheck.), but I really don't. Can't browse or anything. Toggle mobile data and then I have mobile data, usually 3G and it at least works. Did I really have an LTE signal? Were the radios giving a false report?
    • Areas which were strong LTE on my Note 2 appear as 3G... until I toggle mobile data. I stand in sight of a tower I know to have LTE, full bars and everything on the Note 2. The same on the Nexus 5, but it's showing 3G. Toggle mobile data and now it's LTE. (I tried using phone with the 3G, but I couldn't get Google Now to answer a question.)
    • Phone shows I have signal. I just made a call and all went well. Yet, someone is trying to call me, and the phone never rings.
    • Phone shows I have signal. I place a call, and I start hearing a busy signal. I look at phone and now it says I have no bars. What the?

Would CSFB upgrades be causing these odd behaviors?

    2. Should I turn on the extra LTE bands? One or both?

    3. Anyone using Tasker? This CSFB thing is going to really make creating contexts challenging. I use Cell Near context on a few tasks. For instance, if I am near cell IDs 1,2,3 and it's a week day, assume I am at work. Now, the phone records no cell IDs unless the Nexus 5 is using the tower. Do these towers transmit LTE IDs? Maybe we can request an LTE Near context.

how do you turn on the other bands exactly? I haven't seen an option for that, I thought they were off by default until Sprint flipped the switches on the 800/2600mhz?

  4. UCFKnight,

Have you had any of the LTE problems that many are reporting with the Nexus 5?  I'm still really torn between the Moto X and Nexus 5 but the lack of tri-band support in the Moto X makes me lean heavily towards the Nexus 5.  I know LTE isn't officially rolled out here in Orlando yet but I'm able to pick it up most places I travel on my Galaxy Nexus so I wouldn't want to be stuck on 3G while they figure that out.

I'm curious if the slow LTE rollout in Orlando could be due to the fact that they are working on Sprint Spark as well.  One could hope, I guess.

not that I'm aware of so far, it connects to LTE fine and drops to eHRPD if it loses the signal. On my EVO it would mostly stay on eHRPD or a really bad LTE signal (around the -110 to -117 range). But with the Nexus 5, the LTE signal is between -97 and -105.

They are rolling out TD-LTE (Sprint Spark) for Orlando as well.

  5. Was at a friends house and comparing cellular providers because all the sprint users had to connect to wifi. And I was like you just wait, Sprint will be as good if not better than ATT and Verizon in due time. They're like no.....no way. I then wanted to explain the entire Network Vision rollout but I felt it would take an incredibly long time. So I just left it at there.

Anyhow reason behind this post, is that the entire way from my house so like alafaya to under hill to 417 to lee vista blvd I had consistent steady LTE. It was nice. And then I got to the house and it was black hole haha. But, progress!

That's how it is for me, I stay connected to LTE all the way from my home to my office and back but once I get into my house, dead zone - except for my bedroom window, get about 5mbps down from there.

  6. Does your phone pick up the 800 mhz frequency? Aren't there only a few phones, ( LG G2 , Iphohne 5S ) and a few others that can do that right now.? I am wondering if people are aware how much better 800 will be, I mean besides us LTE nerds, lol.

And yay for having LTE in your bedroom. When I have decent signal in my house I will probably stop using my incredibly fast wifi just because I want to be able to say I have LTE. My friend made fun of me the other day because I bought the 5S simply so I can experience that 800 deliciousness when it gets here. LOL.  :hah:

Nah the EVO LTE doesn't get LTE 800, probably CDMA 800 though, that's why I'm gonna go Nexus 5 when it comes out as its tri-band. I have noticed the call clarity change with the HD voice, it sounds so damn clear. Gonna take a walk over to the tower in a bit and do some testing.
