  1. Tidal was such a stupid decision.

Can we please stop whipping the Tidal dead horse?

Yes, the transaction may be puzzling, but that $200 million was a drop in the bucket to a corporation the size of Sprint.  It may not have been available to spend -- per corporate governance -- on anything but external investments.  Even if it had been available to spend on the network, it barely would have made a dent.  Instead, with the acquisition of a portion of Tidal, Sprint did get a saleable asset, one that may provide a return, either financial or strategic.

So, move on to moaning about something else.

  2. ...Sprint's Calling Plus implementation is, from what I've heard, essentially wifi calling over LTE, is there a reason why a call could not be handed to eHRPD/EVDO as a data session?

EV-DO is a legacy system on a different pool of IP addresses.  A drop from LTE to EV-DO is not a handoff.  It requires a new data session with a new IP address.  A call in progress would not survive.

  3. People, stop quoting each other every time when replying to the post right above yours.  That is like having a personal conversation with someone, and every time you speak, you say, "Well, danlodish345, you just said, 'Yadda yadda yadda.'  Now, here is what I think.  Blah blah blah."

    Highly redundant.

  4. The problem I have with the current system is how customers must investigate several different factors in what is important to them and which carrier they think meets the most of their important needs, often sacrificing other needs in the process.

That is the nature of a free market system.  Buyers must inform themselves.  Otherwise, sellers hold all of the advantages, causing the the checks and balances of the free market to fall apart.  Additionally, buyers and sellers alike must make compromises, prioritizing certain needs/wants, sacrificing others.

Yet, the other problem I also see is with different network experiences between markets...

Who cares? Why care?  Almost no one requires consistent wireless service nationwide, statewide, or even citywide.  Say that I live in Chicago, but I might go to Montana someday?  Probably not tomorrow, possibly not ever.  So, most people need/want consistent service in a relatively small area where they live, work, and play.  Because wireless service is about 90 percent local about 90 percent of the time.  Concern over consistency or lack thereof in other markets is little more than an academic exercise.

  5. I think what is going to happen is there will be three carriers, but they still will be quite competitive. If AT&T gets Time Warner, and Verizon merges with Comcast eventually, I can see the Sprint/T-Mobile and possibly Dish going after one of the other huge media groups, perhaps such as Disney, and there will be huge competition in bundle deals and layered offers that will make up, if not exceed the current level of competition in wireless.

You know, Arysyn, your boundless posting capacity would be better served if you used it not to gush over imagined mega mergers, but to protest against excessive vertical and horizontal integration.  Because massive consolidation will not get you what you want, just the opposite.  We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by a media-network complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

  6. It can be aggregated with other lowband holdings such as Sprint's B26 or T-Mobile's B12 to increase downlink speeds in areas where mid/highband don't reach.

No.  Band 29 may not be supplemental downlink carrier aggregated with band 26 or band 12.  And even if it were aggregated, the low band coverage would come from band 26 or band 12, not band 29.

  7. People, some of your posting behaviors in this thread and elsewhere are getting out of hand.

    1. Stop posting your same long winded ideas over and over again.  We know your thoughts and wishes on these matters.  We got the point several hundred posts ago.
    2. Stop quoting posts unnecessarily.  If the post to which you are replying is the most recent in the thread, you need not quote at all.  If the post to which you are replying is a lengthy one, you need to edit down the quote, especially if you are going to offer a trivially short response.  I do not care if you are using Tapatalk and omitting or editing a quote is hard.  You need to do better.

Many of you need to up your posting game.  Or I will start removing offending posts.

  8. I got tired of having an unusable cellphone at Ford Motor Company and at Greenfield Village across the street.    I bought an unlocked phone and got a 30 day pre-pay on T-Mobile.      Works fantastic indoors and around my work area!    Works great at home too!    T-Mobile has caught up and has passed us!!     Sprint...Within 1% of competitors?  No.... I don't think so... not yet.    Pass on that Kool Aid!

You are in Detroit, man.  You cannot generalize "1%" reliability regarding Sprint or T-Mobile based on your limited experience within your limited area.  Not to mention, Sprint has not had full access to its low band spectrum in Detroit, while T-Mobile has had full access to its more recently acquired low band spectrum almost from the outset.

  9. So what you are saying is that if some people complain that someone posts too much, they can be moderated? That puts an unfair mob advantage, AJ. I'm not even arguing/debating staff rights, as I understand that, but its very easy for a group of people to simply decide they don't like someone's posts, even if that person has done nothing against the rules, but simply target them for their dislike. Again, mob mentality.

The flip side of that is a persecution complex and victimhood.

  10. If I'm going to be moderated for backing up his question with my own interest in the possibility of post limits, I really don't see how that breaks the rules here.

No, that is not the issue.  Staff can take action for the good of S4GRU -- even if site rules have not been broken.  And when multiple members are complaining about the volume -- both in number and in length -- of another member's posts, then staff may have to act.

Post/Comment Moderation. S4GRU Administrators, Moderators and staff reserve the right to edit, remove or put on moderation queue any post, comment or profile of any member at any time.
