  1. Im guessing part of the work to be completed is backhaul. They were ramping up for some massive fiber pulls, and all I can get from recieving guys is its for cell towers. No specific carriers were mentioned.

I can't badger the guys too much. They get enough from local citizens.

Either way it seems Sprint will finish LTE before AT&T even rolls out 3g outside Wausau.

  2. Ah, Century link. I worked there for several years back when they were Centurytel. The stories I could tell you...

Short answer, if they're involved, be prepared to wait a loooooong time.

    As for At&t, we're averaging 6kbps here. Yes, I said kbps. I didn't mistype.

  3.

My guess would have been LaCrosse. :)

Yeah, even Tomah has LTE popping up. Lacrosse will be lucky if they see At&t hspa by years end, let alone LTE. My At&t service was nearly unusable last time I was there. Which is how its been here for over a year.

Made the move to Sprint in January, couldn't be happier.

Where are you that Sprint has LTE and AT&T doesn't even have HSPA+? I narrowed down a bunch of the country in my head.

    Stevens Point, WI.

Most of northern WI is Edge only as well, and from what I was told, work has begun on LTE for Wausau market which includes Stevens Point and the northern markets.

Wausau area has HSPA+, but it stops south of Knowlton and north of Merrill.

  5. Well, when I worked for the apartment complex. I remember this. It was quite hilarious lol. Took him 30 minutes to turn that curve.

Been there, done that. Feel sorry for the poor driver. You should see the places people want us to stick trucks!

I wasn't hauling a shed, though. I was hauling a big combine. Roughly the same size.

  6. I dropped AT&T after 8 years. Sprint has made massive improvements since I had them as a company phone just a few years ago.

I haven't dropped a single call I wasn't expecting to drop, and data compared to AT&T is fantastic.

For the record, I think we'll see Sprint LTE before AT&T rolls out 3g here.

  7. We do it quite often in minnesota, never seen any perma frost here either...

Maybe MN calls it something different. Deep freeze better for you?

They call it permafrost in cheeseland.

I've seen it done for repair, never for new install or upgrade. Maybe you guys hold frost longer than we do.

  8. We will use gas fired ground heaters here in New Mexico when the ground is frozen and we have to dig for really urgent work. We are using one now up in Los Alamos on a project.

Where do we get these heaters? Minnesota, of course. ;)

It would cost a fortune to do that up here. We don't just get a little ground freeze. We get permafrost. So, they typically use that as a last resort for emergencyrepair.

I have seen them run temp over the top and bury in the spring if its a crunch time issue, but typically they just wait until thaw.
