One thing that I have noticed here in the Madison area now that a number of the towers are done is the incredible voice quality when you make a call between 2 phones that are HD voice capeable. Called up one of my buddies last bight and honestly though he was in the room having a conversation with me. For reference, u have the N5 and he has the EVO LTE. Once everything is all done, Sprint is really going to have the upper hand over the competitors with a number of their features!

I believe I heard it discussed that any Yellow pin (and green) can be connected to, just not Purple ones. There's a lengthy article about it here:
Yes, that's the explanation I heard as well.

Would the Samsung test driver know of the problems with the Tri-band devices and when the towers are going to updated to the point of Triband devices not having lte connection problems? Is anybody getting lte from these devices? If so, at what location?
I'm on the far east side of Madison and get LTE on my nexus 5 which is triband. I also get it down near john Nolan ave. Haven't really left the east side much this week...

Hey guys, just want to let everyone that is concerned about the CSFB issue that it might end up being a quick fix. I live in Madison WI where we are on samsung towers and I lost my LTE when I upgraded to my N5. I was having some connectivity issues late this morning with my 3g and by 230 this afternoon I have LTE on my nexus. Just wanted to share how quick this was done to keep everyone's hopes up!

CSFB on Park Bank tower must've been updated or turned on this afternoon. Got out of my meeting and my N5 is suddenly sucking down the sweet LTE. Must be a pretty quick fix as I only noticed about a 5 minute window of bad service today. So happy my new device is working now!!!

additional note, since i went into the sprint store before i saw roberts reply, the high crossing tower is apparently being worked on today per the repair tech at sprint. he said he got an email this morning saying that tower was being worked on...so anyone on the far east side may see some degraded service...

It is true. But there are many variables. If you're not connected to a new 3G accepted site with eCSFB, but rather another site, then it's a no go. Or if the CSFB from a new site is not currently operating. But we assure you the problem is because with Triband devices there is a single transmission path. In order to go into LTE mode, it needs to be able to fall back to 1x to accept/make calls/texts. If your device doesn't detect CSFB, then it stays on 1x to ensure your ability for voice/text.

Thank you for the clarification Robert. I havent been able to find very much on these issues, and your explanation definitely helps. I have been looking at the smartphone section of the forum but hadnt really been able to make heads nor tails of the comments over there. If it has to do with the Triband devices, is it a software issue on the phone or does there have to be a update made to the site. (something separate from the upgrade process).
sorry for the extra questions, i just find this stuff really interesting!

It appears the g2 and n5 will not pick up lte on towers that are only 4g accepted.
As more towers become 3g accepted this won't be a problem
Thats not true...
I went and got a N5 and cannot pickup my home tower which is 3g and 4g accepted....heading into sprint at lunch today to get some more info...ill report back as sprint support hasnt been much help.
Guess i shouldn't have jumped the gun on the N5 and gotten it on the release date!

Does anyone in the Milwaukee market have a Nexus 5? I bought mine from the Play Store and have not been able to connect to LTE.
Yes, since I got that awesome LTE signal yesterday I thought I'd go get the nexus and now dont have LTE again. Appears to be an issue with the G2 as well, so we're not alone.

And Park Bank building by East Towne went straight to yellow, so I'd say we don't need a white pin on it :-)

id say that an accurate statement!! Ive been back and forth on 4g all day here at my desk...get it in my living room now too. oh how sweet!! your time is coming guys, hang in there!

LTE is now off for me here on the east side....obviously still testing. That sample was enough to get me really excited for the the coverage will be in madison once everything is all finished!

Man they moved quick! I have seen let come and go a couple tks throughout the night. Getting about 10 down now! Hopefully it stays on! You guys seen anything in the other areas of Madison?
-
Okay, LTE is being tested In Madison. Pictures to prove it. All taken today. One around 7:00 pm was inside the sprint store on the east side of Madison.
I'm still getting it off the same tower here at 9pm. About 6 down, 6 up.

so do they just flip the switch for all these remotely from the base station? Anyone know how this aspect of it works?

im excited! im going to use half my battery today toggling my radios!

Finally, if you use Signalcheck Pro application, when the 800SMR is broadcasting, it appears as though the tower is telling you its TRUE location and address. Before this NV, the towers all gave you an address that was in between 2-3 serving towers.....now the addresses are dead on (when its broadcasting any new tech).
so, if the GPS location is saying park bank is that enough to say that site is in progress? or do we need an actual photo?
-
I'm wondering if you are getting the 800 from the Sun Prairie tower. I got nothing this morning on my commute into Madison. I actually lost signal on 151 south in that area. I don't know how the whole tower ID # works though...so it might be the park bank tower...who knows
where it says tower and the gps coordinates, i plugged that into g-maps and its taking me to the park bank building. additionally, im line of sight to that tower as we speak, so, more likely than not thats the one im actually connected to. Is that enough to assume that tower has been upgraded?
to Ffryguy29 800 is the spectrum sprint broadcasts their LTE Voice signal on from what i understand. And for many people here in madison, thats something that has changed here literally overnight.

This is what I'm grabbing from the park bank tower, not seen LTE though...would i be seeing 1x800 if that tower wasn't upgraded yet?

update: so now that a lot of the leaves are off the trees, i was able to get on cityview drive and take a look down at the antennae on park bank and they do not appear to be upgraded. i did notice there are all sorts of utility markers down the hill from the bank in front of Unos, as in the entire hillside is covered with them. Maybe backhaul work?
-
anyway....has anyone on the far east side of madison (east of 94) noticed stronger voice/3g in the past week or so? I have gone from 0-1 bars at my desk to 3-4 recently. Anyone else noticed a subtle change in signal strength?
-
Blanked again on the Acceptance reports from last night! Unfortunately, the new in progress sites didn't make the map either.

I haven't, no...admittedly though, I haven't been keeping as close of an eye on thing here the last couple weeks as I have been really busy with work.
