Is there a big difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen magic box. In my home my magic box says Band 41 (Low). This is near the window where signal is best. I get like -107 to -116 dB. Anyone know if gen 3 would make a difference?

The "Low" doesn't refer to the signal quality, there is Band 41 High and Band 41 Low - just a frequency thing.

That's a decently usable signal, I wouldn't expect anything really noticeable out of a Gen 3.

Got 12.1.1 on my iPhone 7 Plus. Still no T-Mobile roaming. I guess my expectations should be lowered.

VoLTE not working either but that is not a big concern. I am in a launch market.

iPhone 7 works great on T-Mo native roaming - it's hard to know sometimes because it will often just say Sprint. This has been in effect since at least iOS 12.1.

VoLTE does not work on iPhone 7 and below.

Ok I have a question and I don't see how I can search the actual thread for the answer.  I had a Magic Box Gen2 at my work.  It never really helped that much as my office by the window and my phone preferred to just sit B25 signal it got rather than the B41 signal from the magic box.  Of course in the middle of the building it didn't really help either.  I only had a Good signal though.

I got a Gen3 box and gave my Gen2 to my wife for her work, and I put it in a better signal location where it says Excellent, but still my phone would rather stay on my B25 signal than change over to the magic box.  When I force it do so the ping is 200-500ms in most speed test checks and while I might get some decent speeds in some of those speed tests the phone is sluggish due to the latency.

So I have a couple of questions.

    1) Will the Magic Box ever support bands other than B41 like B25?

    2) Is there any hope to make my Magic Box experience any better than it is now?

I'm in the Atlanta metro area, and I have had some pretty horrible oversaturation issues with Sprint for the better part of the last 2-3 years.  Slow speeds and when it is really jammed no internet at all.  I am starting to worry when they switch on VoLTE how many bad dropped calls there are going to be based on my internet experience.  If it wasn't tremendously cheaper to be on sprint I already would have moved to another carrier.  The price is what keeps me with them.

VoLTE is prioritized, so calling shouldn't be an issue once that goes live.

If your devices aren't connecting to the Magic Box's B41 signal, something is wrong. There shouldn't be a need to broadcast more bands from the MB, you either have a Magic Box issue or a device issue. I'd recommend calling support on that.

In any case, if the Magic Box is getting a crap signal from the Macro site, then it can only broadcast crap out of it. Nothing that can really be done until your area has more site capacity. If you get a new Magic Box, you'll soon have the ability to connect it to your home internet for backhaul, rather than the slow cell site, so that may be worth looking into.

It was pretty much the difference of 1 mbps vs ~2 mbps.

Hence I have it plugged into the router which is fed by a FTTH connection that is ready to go when Sprint / Airspan sends that OTA firmware. 😉

My Gen2 is always on a -121dBm B41 signal as well. An improvement to -117 would be great and less "fringey." But, there's no reason not to use the Ethernet/Wi-Fi backhaul once enabled I suppose!

My magic box sits outside year-round. I have it in the ONLY spot that I've ever been able to remotely find a usable LTE signal (B25). What amazes me is that I can unplug the Magic Box and sit my phone (note 9) in the spot where the magic box is working fine...and my phone will not latch onto a B25 signal. It will, however, pick up a 1x800 ...but just not the LTE. Plug the MB back in and it works like it should.

Granted I only get around 7mbps down and 1mbps up...it works. And it works reliably...

The only issue I've ever encountered with having it outside, under the carport, was when one of my kids moved the towel that I draped on the front of it and rain blew in and got into the inside. At that point the box kept working but the screen was unresponsive.

I have changed the setup and placed a piece of heavy 4x4 on top of the towel on the shelf above the MB...and it's been fine for over  a year now, sitting outside.

Attics can reach 130-140ºF, though. Outside might be a bit more tolerable for the MB, unless you live in the Sahara.  🙂

Great, thank you!  Im sure that VoLTE will roll out to my area within the next decade or so...  :(  Although where I am in NY supposedly Verizon is running fios down the road, so maybe that will help speed along some of the local towers getting an upgrade or two...

What's your area? I'm around Binghamton. Didn't know FiOS was coming....

IMS status is located in the NAS sub-section of LTE section on the XS Max, and presumably the XS & XR.

Cool, works on my Xr! Thanks. Showing “0” in a non-VoLTE market. Makes sense. ?

Edit: Think this thread should be renamed for XS/Xr?

I've had a ticket open for days. My MagicBox is still holding on to an unusable B41 signal since the firmware upgrade. It's been four days since I opened the ticket and now I just escalated it.

Mine hangs on to a -123dBm B41 signal. Download is okay around 5Mbps, but upload is always basically 0.01Mbps...

If it would latch on to B25, it would be a much better experience.

  9. I'm enjoying VoLTE on T-mo prepaid as well - very nice and I might be joining my fiancè's Framily plan once Sprint rolls it out. Didn't realize how nice it is to browse while on speakerphone after having Sprint for ten years.

I find it odd that the overall vibe of the letter above is negative - it doesn't state that an alternative is rolling out that will be superior to Calling Plus. This might anger a lot of people that don't know that VoLTE is coming. Seems like it could have been written better to avoid angry customer service calls.
