  1. I was up in Charlotte last in the first week of February. Nothing ever showed up.

Probably a stupid question, but are you sure you're in CDMA/LTE mode? Make sure you're not in CDMA only mode... because that'd give you Turretts looking for 4G while there's a deployment going on.

  2. Dumb question here.

How the heck are you finding the LTE in Charlotte. The last time I was up there. I turned on LTE and never got a signal. And I was everywhere, South Park to Uptown to Concord.

    Thanks.

When were you last up here? It's on and live most everywhere that we've mapped it on the Sensorly maps . Seems like it was turned off and on a couple times after people mapped CERTAIN towers, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore for the most part with the exception of Bill having accepted towers in Hickory/Newton and not finding it. We need more info to possibly help you. :) You shouldn't have to cycle airplane mode since you have a SGS3.

  3. I've now gotten LTE completely in the Elizaabeth area near the hospital and all the way over to outside my office on East Hawthorne in Plaza Midwood area.. I wonder when more sites are lit up in uptown whether Sprint will announce that Charlotte is a live city.. Maybe they have to get all of the interstates through town active???

Nice! Keep in mind, a market has to be 40-50% complete before Sprint will think about announcing it. They need to get more towers along the interstates and major roads lit up before they go doing that. As of 2/12, Charlotte is 24% done, although that number is probably closer to 25-30% now. They keep lighting up towers JUST out of reach of my house AND work! BAH!

On another positive note, Charlotte had the 2nd most updated towers on the NV Complete Sites map today at 83! :o

  4. I just noticed today that IBM drive and harris & 85 were on the map. I work at the Wells Fargo CIC building right there and still have no 4G, the closest 4G I've gotten to here is up 49 near 485, and a faint signal at my house. I really need them to get LTE up and running strong in my bldg, the slow 3G speeds are killing me!

I work there as well, although I guess that's pretty obvious from the map. I took a walk around the building this morning and you can catch it at least out front of 2 and 3 East, speeds are decent for the distance from the Mallard Creek / I-85 tower too, about 3-4Mbps down and 2-3 up. Shoot me a PM if you want to chat on Lync. If you have an EVO, you'll have to toggle airplane mode to catch it, most likely, which is ridiculous. The tower behind CIC is getting killed because you have all the old IBM buildings on the other side of the creek, probably a couple thousand people in our building with Sprint (at least), Hewitt Associates, the apartments behind that, all the kiddies at Vance High, and all the people on I-85 clobbering it all day.

I had the urge to get out of the building and go to Shanes Rib Shack today, so I mapped a bit more over by Hwy 29, Harris, McCullough Dr, and over in the University City area out of boredom.

  5. Anybody seen LTE in clover? I assume this is part of the Charlotte market.

If you gain access to the Sponsor maps, you'll know. ;) I wouldn't know for sure until I can check tonight, as that one map fights to load at work.

Well, I mapped Hwy 29 halfway between 485 & Mallard Creek all the way up to Harris Blvd., across I-85, and down IBM drive a bit. I can get a RSRP of -90 / -100dBm outside my building, but not inside where I sit. That's SO dissapointing. I hope it's not long before they light that tower up here.

  6. At least one tower in Mooresville has been in progress for at least 3 weeks now. Eagerly awaiting the switch being flipped. Was in Charlotte last night also, and it seemed that I had to keep toggling airplane mode to get continuous lte, but when it flipped to 3g it was full signal. I could get 3 bars max of let though, in the same spot. This confuses me. I thought they were the same as far as building penetration.

Remember, signal strength is ONLY for voice, not data. You can simultaneously be connected to one tower for 1X / 3G and another for LTE. There's another tower that's marked complete off 49 and 485 and I'm not convinced it's turned on. On a good note, it looks newly mapped areas on Sensorly include some of UNCC, IBM Drive, which ill be mapping more of, and it got really dark around Huntersville / Gilead Rd.

  7.

I mapped a little there this morning but no luck on 32nd floor. I believe being higher up is better to a point but being deep inside a building hurts.

That's such Sensorly trickery when people map areas and they're up in a building somewhere! lol...

Robert, is there somewhere where we can translate the BSID, NID, and SID into a tower name on the NV Complete maps? I have one in my LTE available file from when I was mapping in Harrisburg and I think it was the tower all the way out by Reedy Creek Prk.

  8. That's what I thought. Sounds good. Perhaps tomorrow, since it's payday!

Being able to see those maps is worth a donation. :) Robert, thanks for keeping that thing so updated! I may very well have 4G when I go in to work tomorrow! I'll have to test that new tower you put in off I-85 on my way into Charlotte in the morning. :D

Is anyone else's wife making fun of them over the 4G deployment? Mine sure is.

  9. I caught 4G at 49 and 485 and held it all the way into Harrisburg where I'm stopped now. I took a few speed tests and netted some great results. At 49/485, I got 10.8 down / 6.8 up. On 49 at the Cabarrus county line, I got 15.5 down / 6.3 up, and 49 and Morehead netted 8.6 / 2.5 with only a RSRP of about -100. I'm impressed!

  10. Always good news. I need to get around to donating so I can gain access to these maps. Since I'm always interested in the progress. Now I need to remember my PayPal information so I can get to it.

I didn't realize this until after I dd the whole PayPal thing, but you can donate via Visa/Mastercard/whatever via the link in the upper-right corner on the main page - it doesn't have to be via PayPal. Hope that helps!

  11. I'm not sure what's going on, but ever since this latest maintenance update, I can't get the LTE Scan Timer & BSR Max Timer settings to take updated settings (1 & 1) after heading into the ##3282# menu on edit mode. Once I commit the modifications and the phone restarts, they go right back to the 5 & 4. Is anyone else experiencing this? I've tried just changing the settings and backing out of the menus to no avail as well. :td:

  12. How do I report sightings on sensorly map with my iPhone 5??

You can tell the rest of us with other phones and we'll stay on the lookout to map them. :) I'm not sure if Sensorly will be compatible with iPhone 5s anytime soon.

bonvicepacino, no kidding! Someone's been busy mapping Hwy 29 from 485 all the way to Morehead (albeit a LIGHT signal that my EVO has barely picked up), Morehead Rd, and Hwy 49 all the way from UNCC into Harrisburg!

If you gain access to the Sponsor maps, you'll see that they're working on another tower in the vicinity that should help things even more. :) It's like they're building all AROUND Harris & 85 where I work. It's killing me, lol. I'm going to head up 485 and 49 into Harrisburg, so I'll have Sensorly ready to go and see how that 4G signal is.

  13. I contacted Sprint to get my MSL, but they wouldn't give it to me. Their reasoning was that my phone is under contract. Is this typical? I hear of people getting their MSL all of the time, but I also assume that most people are under the 2 year contract.

Is there some way I can trick them into giving it to me, or do I just call and talk to someone else?

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

Here's what works for me every time. I use Sprint Chat and when I get someone, I tell them I need the MSL to update my profile via the dialer. If they ask why, I tell them it doesn't always go well through the settings menu, but I usually don't have to go that far. I've gotten MSLs for each of the 3 EVO 4G LTEs I've been through with no issues.

  14. In about 1/2 of Sprint markets, NetMonitor will be accurate for 1x site locations. But it doesn't ever show LTE locations, unless you just coincidentally are connected to the same 1x and LTE site.

Robert via Samsung Note II via Tapatalk

Oh, so you can be connected to one site for 4G and another for 1X at the same time? I'm assuming by this that 4G doesn't carry voice/text, only data, whereas 1X/3G towers carry everything? I've also seen the 3G/4G towers, which I'm also assuming carry everything because of the previous sentence?

Also, how far do you think a 4G tower could carry its signal in mileage over the air, more or less, given not too much interference and towers, such as in downtown/uptown areas?

  15. Keep in mind there is no app currently that reliable gives the location of the tower you are connected to. And even when they do get it right, they are showing the 1x tower you are connected to, and not necessarily the LTE tower.

True on the 1x vs. LTE, but NetMonitor seems to map out the 3 towers nearest to me dead on vs. Rob's interactive NV maps. I can see where it might not work all the time, but it's got at least those three down pat.

If you look at the Interactive Sponsor NV maps, I'm having a hard time fathoming the tower that feeds the edge of Harrisburg reaching all the way up to the Speedway area.

Well, after using the maps lab distance measurement tool, I suppose it's possible to hit that tower over by Reedy Creek Park (since it's already mapped on Sensorly). It's about 4.6 miles over air to the corner of Hudspeth Rd. and over 5.3 miles to the edge of where ke.morris mapped on Sensorly. That's really impressive!

  16. Next time you're out there, would you mind using NetMonitor or something similar to see what tower you're connecting to on the map tab? I'm curious to see just how far off that Note 2 of your's is reaching, since there's no tower in the very immediate vicinity that's in progress. I'll do the same if I run by there.

Funny you mapped Hudspeth Rd - that was part of my cheesewagon route over 17 years ago.

  17. Looks like Old Concord Rd, Grier Rd, and Plaza Ext. out to Harris Blvd have all been filled in now too. Harris Blvd along Hwy 21 and I-77 have been filled in as well. Looks like the tower for that area is showing as in progress. The latest map update in the Sponsor section shows a TON of newly added In-Progress sites all over our market! :tu: I wasn't expecting that many to be started on at this point.

  18. Cycling airplane mode is just a way to get the phone to re-scan for an LTE signal. There is a pretty good amount of time between scans, especially if your phone hasn't picked up LTE in the area before, so if you are in the middle between scans, it can take the phone a while to pick up LTE. If you held still long enough, it would pick it up as long as the signal is strong enough. If it is a weak signal, no amount of toggling airplane mode will make you connect to it. As LTE is more widespread, and you don't move in and out of coverage all the time, it will become a non-issue.

Ahh yes, that makes sense, just forgot about the whole 5 minute LTE scan timer setting. Honestly, I'd just go into the dialer menu on edit mode and push my LTE Scan Timer to 1 (minute) so that I wouldn't have to cycle airplane mode on a new trip, then move it back to 5 when I'm done. B) That'd take up less battery power since there would be less interaction with the phone.

Looks like Asheville's lighting up nicely! I zoomed in quite a bit and there are three different areas that have been mapped:

    • The area by the hospital in central Asheville
    • College St / Tunnel Rd / 694
    • Merrimon Ave / W T Weaver Blvd

  19. Those new spots (circled in red below) are courtesy of me B) Went from Huntersville, NC to Boone, NC and back. Was constantly cycling airplane mode to see where LTE was the entire trip.

Nice, did either of those 2 areas come up without you having to cycle airplane mode? It's so goofy that many of us have to do that.

  20. I understand about being so close yet so far away. I work off Harris and 85 and LTE is 2-3 miles away from there in TWO different directions now. Maybe if you called Sprint enough about service and pressed them to send enough to send it to be checked for a field survey, they may just do something like that? Nothing ventured nothing gained.

  21. Happy to report my first LTE connection in central Asheville, NC, near Mission hospital, Biltmore Ave, and the Kenilworth neighborhood.

Nice, looks like a second blip showed up right by the hospital. I guess you'll be the Asheville mapper, heheh...

Looks like LTE stretches a good 14 miles down I-40 from Statesville to almost Claremont and there's a blip in Granite Falls now too. Also a stretch on Hwy 74 between Monroe and Indian trail.
