Interestingly, the owner of RootMetrics called in to troubleshoot one of the Sprint phones he uses for data gathering. Nice guy. I am not so sure that his data collection method is accurate. He had people drive around running an android app on a phone from each carrier. Too many vaiables in my opinion.

I could see that being very useful as the cities start rolling out.

Welcome, Gus. I played with an Echo yesterday. So glad you upgraded. lol

Sounds like this is for Sprint.

Verizon doing things right.

The second link at the bottom where I found the picture has better technical info.

The article says they take all the pieces of a regular tower and cram it into an itty-bitty box. That's how it works.

Agreed. Not common but a lot out there. I get this a lot in Michigan' date=' so that's why I guess I'm not that shocked. I would love that 4G connection though. Almost flawless ping and a nice steady signal.

All you need is your own 4G radios.

Inside the call center. 3G is on the tower, 4G is with internal antennas.
Thank goodness for the internal radios. I am not sure what I would do without Netflix at work. ;-)

Not bad at all. Can you buy a used modem? Should be lots of them available.

Yes, the ETF on the contract levels out at $50. AFAIK, Clear is unlimited but throttles. Double-check that before you sign a contract. Still, may be a better deal if throttling is at 5GB... Depends what you need.
-
Ok, so someone who got a data card 2 years ago would be on a prorated etf then?
If you got the data card two years ago, you would be out of contract already.

Sprint currently uses bundled T1 lines for backhaul. These work OK for a 3G network before the smartphone explosion. However, they are insufficient now.
Network Vision will correct the backhaul issue. Upgrading to fiber or microwave bridge to fiber in almost all instances.
In the interim though, Sprint is still upgrading T1's trying to improve performance somewhat. Even though Network Vision is under way.
Adding a T1 only patches the problem for a little while. With data traffic doubling every year, adding a measly 1.5 Mbit connection does not make a difference for very long.
What is the capacity of the microwave bridge?

It's been years.

Is there some way to mark all topics read?

The network enhancements... mainly on the backhaul. Though I still have my doubts. Data traffic doubles every year so I am worried about whether or not Sprint can keep up with the growth in the face of financial challenges. It is too bad the Lightsquared deal fell apart. That would have provided a much needed revenue stream.

I have a source now. I just needs to sift through the data and figure it all out. But I think I'm going to be able to announce the next few Samsung and A/L cities later in the week.
Interesting. I have always thought it was funny that I learned things about Sprint on other sites before they officially told me.

Since inception and now work there. I still remember everyone knocking CDMA and saying TDMA was sooooo superior.

I think Sprint is trying to play the, under promise, over deliver card.
Always the best policy.

Fantastic work, Robert!

This cannot happen soon enough. The amount of wireless data is DOUBLING every year. I think Sprint is spot-on to not only accelerate Network Vision but also to deploy femto units to address indoor coverage and offload traffic from the towers.

Sprint Customers not as satisfied with customer service, Sprint drops from first to third.

If you are a business account you will normally get better reps. The worst reps are the frontline-almost-minimum-wage-this-job-sucks folks in the outsourced centers.
Overall, I feel Sprint CS is declining. I am seeing more pass-the-buck behavior and incompetence lately. I think with the focus on tightening the belt that CS is taking a turn for the worse.
There was also a substantial loss of experienced reps when RIM was getting ready to roll out the Playbook. Most of them were later laid off but not rehired by Sprint.
