  1. I don't think this is a new thing. I have had phones reboot before on a profile update. I think it depends on what part of the profile is being updated.

I agree though, this is the first time I have seen it happen multiple times in a week on a forced update.

Yes that is correct.  All the htc phones i have had would reboot if there was something new applied to the data profile.  However, now, with profile updates they reboot each and every time regardless of new entries.  That is what i was attempting to point out.

  2. I have seen it too on my wife's phone and mine. It seems to force a reboot.

Yes so this latest firmware/software requires a reboot after updating the policy unlike before.  This is probably a good idea, I know most other sprint phones have been forcing reboot since the beginning.  I also noticed that the profile update no longer will flip you back to lte/cmda if you have set your mobile connection to cdma, gsm, auto, etc.

  3. Anyone else been getting profile updates automatically the past few days late in the evening? I know they are pushed out automatically ever once in a great while but after the recent OTA I have gotten 3 of them all around the same time 11pm at night.

  4. Post on previous page makes me believe no, it can't do either.  They only have the G Block 5x5, 5 MHz D and  5 MHz E block.  As long as cdma is active they can't do much with their PCS there, but Houston seems to be getting quite a few small cells.

Do you happen to know where some of these small cells are located so far?  I have found tons of small cells but they usually end up being the zayo tmo small cells.  I found a couple sprint small cells but thats it.. about 2.

  5. There was a new radio in this update, the baseband version changed.

I noticed that too yesterday and I also noticed that this new radio is way better can aggregating two b41 carriers.. the last radio out here in Houston where this is a ton of 2xca would only agg it if i had a strong singal and was stationary.  This new radio I tested out on the same towers as before and was getting 100+mbps every time versus 40-50.. Love it.  Also noticed the transition between b25 and b41 vice versa is much better too.

  6. A few days ago there was a technician walking around the top of a Sprint-only tower in Endwell. It's been LTE/3G accepted for months now, could he have been hooking up the 800Mhz gear perhaps? It's not broadcasting, but maybe he was getting it ready for 800 1x/LTE soon?

I know this is an old post but just curious which tower you are talking about?  Hooper rd one?

    Thanks

  7. Look at the PCI. They're usually in the high PCI range (400s).

Thanks for the info.  My main cell at home has a PCI of 442 but I am pretty positive its a clear converted site to mini macro.  Would the PCI for small cells be higher than that 442?

  8. You'll primarily be looking for ones deployed by Mobilitie.

Thanks, understood.  I knew mobilitie was the one doing it for Sprint but I wasn't sure who/what zayo was.  Are there any other vendors other than Mobilitie deploying for Sprint?

  9. Nokia FLEXI Zone Pico cells.

Could be tmobile or Sprint since both use the same vendor in the area. Only way to tell is to check with a Sprint or Tmobile device since it's externally the same.

That specific setup in the image appears to be typical of a Tmobile Nokia small cell setup.

Thank you for your quick reply!! I was hoping they were sprint small cells and not tmo but I have yet to connect to them :/  some (like the one i took a pic of) do not appear to be fully setup and live yet so I was keeping my fingers crossed and wishing they would come online and be sprints.  Now that you mention it they are placed where you would expect sprint small cells to be placed around that area near the macro sites... but they again tmo and sprint in my area share a lot of macro sites or are near each other.

    Thanks again!

  10. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have wifi calling enabled, don't know if it is a Sprint or HTC issue.

This wont matter, Sprint has not (and likely will not) add WiFi calling to the HTC 10

  11. Looking at some information, I do not expect to find a Sprint small cell in that area.

Thanks for checking.  I saw it and I never noticed it before and like i said it didn't seem live yet (cause I wasn't connected to it) or not even sprint like you say but by the looks of it it looked similar to the design on that pdf.

  12. It makes sense that they want to get these remaining sites tackled in 2017 if VoLTE is around the corner for 2018-2020. I'd imagine that this probably holds true for all of Upstate NY's remaining 3G sites. There is one rural 3G site down here in the Binghamton market that recently had fiber ran to it but not hooked up. They'll probably hit it in the springtime I imagine.

    Which site is this?

  13. Has anyone spotted these 100+ small cells sprint is talking about in Houston

I think I saw one yesterday while driving home from work.  I do not have a pic since I was driving but it looked similar to this design (see attachment).  Not sure if it was live yet but the assembly looked brand new.

I had to put this attachment on my file server at home since its a large pdf.

I saw a similar setup yesterday right about in this area.  The pole looked new too:
