I said it earlier this week and I still think another carrier is complaining about some insignificant "bug" to Google and intentionally holding up this update. Specifically to keep the Spark enhancements away from Sprint users.
They have succeeded.

Dear xxxx,
Thank you for your response via Dan@Sprint.com. We appreciate you e-mail
regarding the software update to enable the Sprint Spark feature on your
Google Nexus 5. I sincerely apologize for any frustration this has
caused you.
Google Network was to release a software update for the Google Nexus 5
as of April 14, 2014 however; a communication was received yesterday
that Google has postponed this update. Sprint is in communication with
Google and all feedback received is being considered and reviewed in
support of the Google Nexus software update. Please visit our website
www.sprint.com/support to check for any new software releases that are
available for your device.
If you need any additional assistance, please feel free to reply
directly to this e-mail and include a contact number or your account
information. Your business is greatly appreciated and thank you for
contacting Dan@Sprint.com.
Sincerely,
Dan@Sprint.com Team

OK, thanks for the clarification. I was wrong. I didn't recall them saying an update was needed.
Thanks.
-
When the device was released it was advertised as a Spark device. Nothing said in the future the device would be Spark capable right? You bought the device knowing that Triband was in the future. That is still accurate.

As I recall it was determined after initial sales that a update would be required to enable Spark.
Again this is what I recall what do others remember? Did Sprint say a update would be necessary to enable Spark before it went on sale or was that post release/sale?
Can we clarify this because I really want to know now. I could be wrong and that is fine but what actually happened?
-
Well this stinks. I spent a lot of money on a tri-band device. If I would have known it was going to be like this I would have held on to my old device and saved my money. Pretty disappointed in this.

I had a Sprint product development employee reach out to me this morning after reading this thread. His message says:
The update is from Google going to all Nexus 5's with the same model number. Including AT&T, T-Mobile and regional comapnies. We expected it to start already. We don't know why there is a holdup with Google, but we believe it will be starting very soon. Maybe even today. Google does have to coordinate several wireless companies. Anything could hold up the final OTA. If I hear of any holdups I will let you know...

Ah ha. Eureka!
So one of the other carriers notices that Sprint is about to rollout their real network using this update and finds a "problem" which holds the update up at the last second. I am now thinking we may never see 4.4.3. Dirty pool I say.
-
Has anyone received an OTA notification? Stock users?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Haven't seen one anywhere yet. I am thinking it isn't exclusive to Sprint. That would be a first.
We will probably see it roll out to everybody soon. Today? Maybe.

Says its out today for sprint users?
That would be odd. But whatever, we just need someone to capture the OTA. "but Sprint is currently seeding it to its customers with Nexus 5 phones."

FINALLY!!
So since I'm rooted and have the other bands enabled, should I revert to stock and disable the bands before the update? Or should it not matter?
I'm wondering about this too. This is the first phone I've rooted or done anything to. I wasn't planning on taking the OTA, and just side load the update through TWRP. Do I need to do anything special before flashing it?

Just use this guide. It should contain whatever scenario you have.

Nice update! Always wanted this feature for a long time. Too many site hex codes to remember, especially now.
Great job!
Oh that's perty. Hope this bug is a quick fix and we can all get these new features.
Thanks for the great work Mike!

This is a good idea. Just emailed him, I will report back what they say.
I emailed them earlier. Here is the correspondence. Not very encouraging but who knows.

I am curious about the promised Spark update for the Nexus 5 device.
We have been waiting patiently for the update to enable the Spark bands
for the Nexus 5 and curious if there is any information you can provide
regarding when the update will be available to your customers.
Thanks for your attention to this matter.

IBT is notoriously wrong on their tech rumors.
yeah, I was going to say that site is a troll site looking for clicks.

This article doesn't leave me holding my breath...
Me either. Plus if it doesn't contain the Spark update well... I am personally going to start raising hell. Not sure about anyone else.
I have been patiently waiting...

Does anyone see the Spark update in this list?
Could it be the Internet telephony fix? If not I don't see it here. Doesn't mean I didn't miss it. Thoughts?

Waiting for this Spark update is frustrating
This.
It's the main reason I bought this phone. I mean it is getting to the point of ridiculous. The phone will be outdated before you can use it like it was designed.

I have a degree in Information Systems and Decision Sciences. It is a programming and statistics program. It is different from CS in that it is a Business degree instead of a Science degree. At least that is how it is structured at my Alma Mater.
I currently work for a company doing everything from writing .Net based web apps to database administration and general IT projects. Mostly Management Information Systems and End user data collection. So I work very closely in terms of what my degree is intended.

I noticed a big difference when I flashed the dalvik and bionic library optimizations. I can't use ART since Xposed framework doesn't work with that and there's no way I could give up Xposed.
The davlik and bionic libraries have done well for my battery also. These optimizations plus greenify are awesome!

Do you think work will pick back up and get back to normal?
I did spot some workers at a tower near my home a couple days ago. It is the first activity at a known Sprint site in a long time.
So maybe a crew is sniffing around doing something. Maybe not. We shall see.
-
Hmm...wonder why it was skipped. The WiMax site is co-located with Sprint's 1x and 3G EVDO equipment, curious if they would NV this site and add 1900 LTE tor wait until contractors install Spark equipment. One thing I notice about Ericsson around here anyway, they seem to avoid the sites that cover downtown districts. If you look at the Nashville market map, preferably Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol you can see where sites are missing from the NV sites completed. Have you seen this down your way, since Ericsson is your vendor as well?
Absolutely, the downtown area is the least worked on and most sparse NV area in the market. At least this is true for New Orleans. I think the Baton Rouge crew would agree also.

Performance will be the same in most areas since it will be a 5mhz paired LTE link just like the PCS side. The big difference will of course be the lower frequency and not many handsets being able to use this band at first. But will the network want to bump you over to a saturated PCS LTE channel when a nice clean 800mhz one is sitting there waiting is the big question I have.
I was thinking about that yesterday. Wasn't sure if setting the priority band would handle that or not. A custom PRL wouldn't help any for LTE. So, yeah I guess this is a big unknown at the moment.

No one has reported being able to connect to them yet.
And that would be why nobody is talking about how it's working.
Makes sense now.

Look at the map at the bottom of this post, there are more now than then.

Thanks for the link. I read that article a when it came out. Excellent write up. I was hoping there was some discussion about performance and stuff in a thread for the market(s) that maybe I have been missing. Doesn't sound like it or I am not privy to it. Which is fine, I just didn't want to be overlooking it.
Thanks for the replies.

Just wait a week. The sites are ready. What's happening in Houston will be happening all over the place in certain markets here shortly.
Can you point me in the direction of the Houston 800 info? I hear about it in various threads but when I look for discussion in Houston threads I can never find anything.
Thanks
