  1. There's your problem. If you are in 3G mode with an active data connection, your phone will not hand "up" to 4G. Sensorly was probably uploading and or downloading map data.

I trust you flashed the other pieces of the radio update as well.

Ah, interesting. Learned something new. Will try to see the hand off without a dedicated connection a few times.

    Everything but the HBoot.

  2.

You probably didn't pick it up due to the EVO LTE or even due to different conditions. I am betting this site is far from that location and by RF design it wasn't meant to be used at that location.

Do you have the latest update with the new baseband?

-- "Sensorly or it didn't happen!"

Yes, I am running a rooted jb ROM with the newest radios. I am going to update my profile and prl though.

I was running sensorly earlier and was driving on 10 in the middle of the purple area near the tower and it didn't hand off till I was literally directly underneath it. That is why I am concerned.

  3. Not a mistake, there are a few people working on finding out what tower it is from.

I just drove the 310 to 10 route. Phone never showed 4g. But I am becoming frustrated as it appears my EVO LTE has the 3g to 4g hand off issue. Not a happy camper with this phone atm.

Anyway sorry I couldn't be of much help on this on this one. Going to see what I can do about this hand off issue.

  4. But the coverage goes in to kenna bra. ;)

I am still perplexed about that purple over the spillway. Any chance there are some panels on those power lines that run parallel to I10? If so it seems odd that would get upgraded considering the only access is by boat. Strange.

eta:nevermind just read the other thread

  5. I just mapped out the Kenner site on sensorly. For those that can't get a connection go into LTE Engineering screen by typing ##DEBUG# into your dialer. I started in Best Buy's parking lot by doing this.

I literally think we were driving right next to each other at one point. I saw some purple just near me that I don't think was me.

  6. Whoa. 2nd kenner site? Any info on which one? I will have a chance in the morning to check it out if I know where to look. Haven't had time to navigate the sponsor section yet so maybe that is hindering me. But if you have any specifics and want me to swing by shoot me a pm (i think we can do that here).

I will also be at the upgraded Laplace site tomorrow and will report if anything has been turned on there.

  7. CDMA/LTE would be the default setting.

When you put in the dialer command *#*#4636#*#* there is no cdma/LTE option. There is a CDMA, LTE option but when I choose that all I get is 1x signal. The setting I have it on now is getting really poor speeds so if anyone with an EVO LTE could open this command and see what their preferred network setting is that would be much appreciated.

Eta: never mind. Mkenny gave me the answer right above my post! Thanks man.

  8. Can someone tell me what the default preferred network setting should be for the *#*#4636#*#*?

I stupidly changed to LTE only without checking to see what it was set to before I changed it and would really like to make sure I put it back to the correct setting.

    Thanks

  9. Ok I am in idiot and blame my lack of coffee this AM, Those weren't cables hanging down. It was the ladder that from a distance and a glance looked like two cables. Ran by that tower and no Ericsson Truck or workers were there

Haha. I was driving by there earlier and I was getting close to the tower and glanced up and swore I saw the cables and thought "there are the cables mkenny mentioned". Then as I got closer and pulled around by the cage the cables were nowhere and there wasn't anybody around to have done anything with them.

Weird. My minds playin tricks on me.

But yeah the place was shuttered so I am not expecting anything until after new years now I guess. But you never know.

  10. Everyone take a seat in the desks....and welcome to Sprint RRU Spotting 101. ;)

I hope these graphics and explanations can help you recognize the Sprint equipment in your area. Just remember, every tower is different due to the thousands and thousands of variables between sites. If you are ever in doubt, take a picture and post it. You have to learn some how... that's what I did. Then you'll take on the addictive hobby of taking pictures like I have of the sites above.

Sweet. Excellent post. Gonna read again and try and absorb some of that again.

A guy walked in my office and said "you looking at cell tower porn?".

  11. Power Blvd in Kenner. I am updating the second site as In Progress now as it was not on the maps yet.

Now that I think about it I was sitting at the red light at this intersection last week and I was looking at the towers near it and thought "that looks like Sprint RRUs...nah probabaly ATT. No, too many panels must be Sprint. On s4gru they said that ATT only put up an few panels and this one has 3 on each side that is alot. I should get some pics for S4gru and ask them. Oh well you don't know what you are looking at or talking about. Besides if that was Sprint someone would have reported it by now since it is in a heavliy trafficed area (same area that WIMAX works btw)." Then the light turned green.

  12. I just heard from one of my sources that there is now one site live in the New Orleans market. I should get the site ID from him later today or tomorrow. Stay tuned. But until then, keep searching for LTE signals. You may find it before I post it!

    Robert

Holy smokes. That is great news!

    Hope someone can find it.

    Thanks for the update.

  13. Ok so I finally brought my good camera out to my (being rebuilt) house in laplace. These are images of the tower on I-10 close to hwy 51.

    The new panels.

One more view of the panels...

    And another from underneath

    IMG_6693.JPG

And here are the boxes, there are 2 others but I believe these are the new ones.

    IMG_6691.JPG

I have about 6 more pics like these if any more pics are wanted by anyone.

This location was flooded by hurricane Isaac and I believe that is the main reason why this tower has been upgraded. Previously the data speeds on this tower were terrible and it hardly ever got any attention. Now the speeds are significantly better but I have not been able to pick up anything other than 3g up to this point.

I was trying hard the other day as when I drove by there was a truck sitting by the entrance to the site (think it was an Ericson truck) but nada.
