  1. No worries, I will sit at your front door on Sept 5 and accept it.  And the best thing is that you will never see me or the phone again.

Sadly, I had that exact kind of thing happen to me when I was teenager. One my parents' independent living clients signed for a hard drive (person didn't even know what it was) and took it to their room. The only way I found out was a care worker saw it and told.

It seems like forcing someone someone to be there to sign is no real protection against theft.

  2. Have you ever rooted your phone?

That is a provisioning code from Sprint, from what I've been told in the past.  You're going to just have to block that number otherwise they'll never stop.

I had rooted my S4 and tinkered some with the baseband.  Then I started getting those texts and they never stopped until I blacklisted that number.  I even gave that phone over to my wife and wiped everything, still got the texts.  Very weird, but that was the only resolution.

I got a similar text last night (though from 9355) on my Galaxy Note 4 and I haven't done any kind of rooting or romming to it - probably simply happened because I'm using hangouts for my text message client.

So thanks to a die shrink (28 to 20nm), Qualcomm has been able to move the Gobi 9x35 on-die, unlike the 805 package, where it is a separate part. If nothing else, this guarantees that a SD 808/810 device will support *at least* 2x20 downlink CA rather than being cheap and using an older Cat 4 modem (cough, cough, Galaxy Note 4).

While this updated Gobi 9x35 still only supports 2x20MHz downlink CA, there is now room for a second transceiver to aggregate one more 20MHz carrier. Since it is said that "the hardware supports Cat 7", and the standalone 9x35 modem (like the one in the Note Edge) does not, I believe it can be reasonably inferred that the additional transceiver- the WTR3905- adds support for another 20 MHz carrier for both the downlink *and* uplink, for a total of 3*20MHz down & 2*20MHz up. The WTR3905, while separate, is being shipped automatically alongside the new SoCs (at no extra cost), so an OEM is very unlikely to omit it, since it wouldn't lower their BOM.

Your comment made it sound like the 805 not having a modem was a die size limitation. The Snapdragon 800 and 801 have integrated modems already. The 808 / 810 getting an integrated modem isn't purely about die shrink - the 805 didn't have one for a couple reasons.

    1. It was originally developed towards targeting tablets with high performance needs. An integrated modem part is wasted on such products as most tablets are sold without a modem.

    2. Rather than die size, the die shrink means the 808/810 are built on the same die process as the 9x35 - both are 20nm parts and thus can be done in one single monolithic SOC.

  4. No. when i use locate me to enter the address, it gets the correct location from gps (Seoul).

I just found out that i am able to receive a call on wifi. But unable to make outbound call. Is there a certain dialing pattern im supposed to use when making a call on wifi from abroad?

I was just joking. If you can receive calls but can't dial out, perhaps you aren't including the area and country code in the number? In the past, when I was in some roaming areas, phone numbers that worked for me wouldn't dial out because I didn't explicitly have the 1-XXX (XXX being the area code I live in and was calling to), but they all worked fine when I was out of my area code but still on network. Since then, I've always included area code when I save a phone number in my phone book.

  5. No. Sprint clearly states that international wifi calling being available here (south korea, not on unavail list). It does not require that the location have sprint service. Wifi calling is to use sprint service at a location where you have weak sprint signal or none at all.

They only have a list of countries where you are unable to use it. As far as activation, yes i have activated it abroad. I will call them up to find out if they can get this setup for me.

    N. Korea is on the no Wi-Fi calling list - maybe your GPS thinks it is in the DMZ?
  6. I'd bet part of the reason is the limited run of Note Edges that will be created. To do cat 6, the Note Edge uses mdm9635 which Qualcomm currently probably can't ship in large numbers. The 9635 is made using a 20nm silicon fabrication processes where as the 9625 in the regular note, and the iPhone 6 is built on the older, more stable, more productive 28nm node. Basically, that Apple couldn't get Qualcomm to pump out the 9635 for them over the 9625 tells you how supply constrained the part is.

  7. Anything going on in the Detroit market, around where I live? Do I have to have the paid versions on LTE Discovery and SignalCheck Pro to be able to detect other LTE bands?

Samsung doesn't properly report the LTE band to the Android API so SignalCheck Pro can't tell when you have Band 41 LTE. One way to check is if the 3rd digit in the GCI is odd (since the digit is in Hex B - 11, D - 13, and F - 15 count as odd).

  8. Question on youtube. Whenever i watch anything on youtube, @ 1:28 mark, the video freezes, but the sound continues to play. Only way to get the video to play again is to jump to different time, but it freezes again after 1:28. Has anyone experienced this?

I have a similar issue that happens around the same time frame. Restarting the phone will temporarily fix it. I looked it up, and it seems that Galaxy S5 has had a similar issue since a youtube update that happened in July/August. People have a support ticket in with Youtube.

  9. Picked my up today - ended up paying nothing but tax for it on contract. Best Buy gave me $200 for the phone trade in deal, than added $50 to it for reward zone, and then there was a $50 off for signing my phone number up with their upgrade promotions email earlier in the year. Sweet. No problems getting it, they guy did say that some people who preordered won't get their order filled on the first shipment but Best Buy will still honor the promotion.

  10. Same as jtf21 said, plus I registered my number with Best Buy upgrades at the begining of the year and so they'll take an additional $50 off my upgrade price, so I'm be getting the Note 4 for $50. It also sounds like Best Buy is planning on being more lenient on the definition of trade in device. As far as non-contract price - Best Buy will match local retailers price on phones, so you can still get it for $720 off contract if you tell them. The real problem is easy pay, which Best Buy can't do anything about, so they can't give you the Samsung rebate on it.
I've usually used Best Buy in the past because they always did instant rebates instead of Sprint's old policy of mail in rebates for part of the phone's price. The two times way back in the early 2000s that I upgraded at a Sprint store, they initially rejected or lost my upgrade rebate and I had to fight for an additional month to get it (beyond the 4-8 weeks). I think their old upgrade policy was part of why Sprint had such a low reputation before - basically the upgrade rebate department was run by another company with most of the staff in India, and they made money by DENYING your rebate. They had no incentive to make the process work smoothly.

  11. It was more than one source mentioning it, you can take what you like I assume.

I don't think he'd refer to 2 storage capacity OPTIONS of the same device as "deviceS" though.

It could be taken either way - it is a very ambiguous pronoun. It wouldn't surprise me to see a writer, particularly for a non-tech site like Forbes, refer to different capacities as different devices. Generally, I'd call it bad writing style to use an antecedent that dangles back to a different paragraph.

In a comment response to someone, he said, "Sorry, I didn’t get any info on the Nexus 6 other than that it’s being launched alongside the Nexus 9 tomorrow. I imagine the pre-order schedules for both devices will be similar."
