Oh wow. Don’t know exactly where that is, but if I’m ever in the area I’ll check it out.

LI needs a denser network, functional LTE service is spotty.

Honestly, my iPhone X spends most of its time on 3G, LTE is still pretty hit or miss for me, and just because it’s there doesn’t mean it works.

3G is chronically slow but mostly reliable outside of busy areas. I’d be screwed without it.

Can't forget "defiantly", though autocorrect is partly to blame for that one.

I'm thinking I'll stick with my 6S+ for now, as much as I'd like to upgrade. I had the 4S without LTE, the 5S without B41, and I'm not sure if the 6S cycle missed anything important. But I don't want another new (and expensive) device that feels a generation behind in terms of wireless tech.

I'm not too keen on the FaceID thing, I likely wouldn't use it. And the lack of a headphone jack is something I'd have to get used to.

Where is it that your speeds have slowed down? Have you reported it on my Sprint?

Far Rockaway and multiple areas of Long Island (technically another market, I know), I've reported poor performance in the past, but I can't say I ever noticed any improvements.

My only service this evening has come from a fringe B26 signal, from what I assume is a distant tower (I need to become a sponser to confirm).

Only problem is that my phone keeps switching back to a slightly stronger B41 signal, despite no data going through lol.

A week old, but these are the fastest speeds I've experienced with Sprint, by far. This was near NYU. B41 near me is bogged down to EVDO speeds or slower during the day.

It's amazing how empty EVDO is now after all these years. When I first joined Sprint EVDO would give me 10kbps with a 1,000ms+ ping.

I often turn LTE off indoors and in congested areas because EVDO generally performs better. It sounds odd considering it wasn't always usable at one point, but I'm glad it's still around.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but ever since updating to iOS 10.3.1, my phone has held on to weak LTE much better than before. I'm in Seattle, an IBEZ market (no 800) and my phone has been comfortably holding B25 down to -125 or -126 all day. Very impressed!

So that would explain why my phone has been holding onto LTE for dear life lately, even if faster 3G is available. I assume the constant switching wasn't good for the phone's battery life, but I'm not the biggest fan of having to do it manually now.

How is it possible that on Jamaica Avenue near Parsons Blvd there is LTE, but the minute you step into the Sprint store in that location, LTE dies a quick death. lol

Still? I bought my phone there a year ago, no LTE inside, but it appeared once I got towards Old Navy. I remember my entire trip home being LTE-less though.

But that's the key, in the basement where signal was very weak, it flips over like it should. But out and about, iPhones seem to take the stronger B25 signal, even when it's overloaded.

That does seem to be the case, my phone likes to switch to B25 once the signal strength is acceptable, I've never had a strong B26 signal. But if B25 and B26 are both weak-ish, it generally doesn't switch. Right now it's parked on B26, even though B25 is available.

The service in Riverhead is terrible, it murders my battery life. But my phone did manage to latch on to B26, it didn't last long though, so no speed tests.

This is my 2nd time (ever) coming across B26.

Yes, in Suffolk County. I would've posted about it in the Long Island forum, but it's pretty dead.

Finally got to experience Band 26 for the first time this morning. I'm located about a mile from a site, but it was always a struggle to maintain an LTE (Band 25) connection. Now with Band 26 my connection is around -100 (about the same as my 3G connection), and my phone hasn't been dropping back down to 3G as often as it used to.

Idk if it's even coming from the nearest site, but I'm glad I finally get to experience it. Now I want Band 41, but I'll probably have to wait until next Fall.

I think this is impressive for such a weak connection, on any carrier.

I'm actually surprised they launched Long Island altogether, considering its size. As a whole I don't think it was ready, not that a launch really means anything. That coverage map is appalling though, at least for Suffolk.

LTE generally performs well for me when I have it, although it doesn't seem to travel that far, which is why I can't wait for B26.

I will go one further. Sprint should have been crowned the winner. Usable data AND excellent voice coverage should win out over excellent data speeds and an 80% chance of completing your call.

I wouldn't crown Sprint the winner, who makes calls during the Super Bowl? I'd place more weight on the data performance. But I'm surprised service (on all carriers) performed as well as it did.

Connected to B41 on 42nd and 8th ave, seemed to be older backhaul. Still beat the pants out of B25, got 1mb down on B25 and 10mb down 15 up on B41.

I've noticed that pings on B41 are generally slower than the pings on B25. Have you noticed a difference?

Wifi always feels a little more responsive than LTE (B25) to me, even with slower DL speeds, although it's only a slight difference. And both are noticeably faster than EVDO at similar DL speeds.

LI is good.

A lot of spotty coverage though. There is a lot of gaps that need to be filled, but when I'm traveling on the LIRR going from Nassau County to Suffolk. I usually have LTE for a majority of the train ride. 3G on regular is pretty good. Even in my town lol.

I see little/no LTE between Queens and Suffolk on the LIRR, maybe my phone switches towers too fast.

Manhattan - LTE about 60% of the time.

Brooklyn - LTE about 60% of the time.

Queens - LTE about 35-40% of the time.

Long Island - LTE about 20-25% of the time.

Can LTE 800 be remotely activated? Or will we have to sit through another LTE 1900-like rollout?

I was in Times Square earlier today. It is covered by LTE almost entirely but not all sites in the area have been upgraded. Speeds were poor on LTE with 400kbps download and it wouldn't work on the upload. The ping was 92ms.

 

Here's the kicker, Sprint 3G was blazing fast! 2.22 Mbps download and 1.09Mbps upload and the ping was 72ms.

That's Midtown in general for me, sometimes LTE doesn't even work, no matter the signal strength. 3G tends to work better.

I had a weak LTE signal on the 3 train from when it went underground until Kingston Ave (2 stops). LTE usually cuts off immediately as the train goes underground, and EVDO shortly after that. I tried to run the field test, but LTE dropped shortly after I put in the # (I couldn't remember it). The signal strength was in the 110's though.

I'll try to run the field test again later on today and see what happens.
