I know they are talking about adding San Diego!!! ok.. well I hope so.
I'm hoping that Clearwire's deal with Leap will benefit Leap's hometown - San Diego.

I just noticed that there is a stray LTE signal on the Sensorly map for Centennial, CO south of Denver. Any 4G users in Denver?

Apple had to do something. Google Maps lack of voice navigation made it impossible to use in heavy traffic conditions. It's not like you can pick up your phone while driving and try and flip between the map and the written directions. Apple maps isn't great but at least now we might get some healthy competition that will lead to some great innovations.

It would really piss me off if they tried to say they have a nationwide 4G network again. They need to wait until they have at least 40-50% of the nation covered and not just the southeast and Atlantic regions.

Hopefully this is an opportunity to use some of T-Mo's sites now that they belong to Crown and Castle. I would imagine that these sites already have upgraded backhaul to support T-Mo's Faux-G network.

The goal for Clearwire is to not build a cohesive network over any one market, but rather sell extra capacity to other carriers who need it at point loaded zones. Clearwire is working with Sprint (and possibly other unnamed partners) to identify which Clearwire sites will need LTE most. These are the ones they are focusing on first. In later phases, they will expand these hotzones to 31 of their existing markets. In possible future unplanned phases, the may move to all 71 of their markets, or even on to Sprint Network Vision sites outside their markets.
Do you think they will also deploy LTE for Leap (Cricket) hot zones or is the initial deployment all about Sprint?

Is there any TD-LTE in 2600 MHz yet?

Once again the places that get upgraded last will get screwed. We paid the $10 smart phone fee for years with super slow 100 kbps data speed while others enjoyed wimax. Now the places that get LTE last will probably get a big price hike right when LTE gets to their area. If Sprint raises prices, they should do a phased roll in and raise the prices first in areas that had early LTE implementation. That would be fair to the rest of us. I know it won't happen but it should.
-
Perhaps the increased speeds on wimax are the direct result of fewer people on wimax phones. Im sure a lot of wimax people already upgraded to LTE phones even if the network isn't up where they live.

I hate to be the only one that says AT&T but my friends that have AT&T are very happy. Their iphones download at 5 mbps on 3G. This is what Sprint is promising for 4G. I also know that AT&T has a lot of spectrum in San Diego so I'm sure their LTE will be fast like Dallas and not so-so like their Chicago LTE coverage. I also hear great things about Verizon but no one I know has their LTE phones either.

So are you going to make the jump to a Sprint iPhone 5? That's what I want to know.
Robert
If I get the Sprint version does it work on Verizon? I'd hate to pay full price and end up with a phone that I can't take with me if Sprint flakes on LTE for San Diego.
Ok... who am I kidding.. I probably will buy it anyway. Maybe I'll have to go to Chicago to test it out and then fly to Houston on a United 787 and test it out there too.
-
This is great news! Maybe Sprint isn't full of poop after all. Congratulations to Chicago and Boston. On a side note, Chicago, Boston and Houston are going to be the first US cities with regularly scheduled Boeing 787 service as well! I'd be in nerd heaven if I lived in any of those places.

I've been mapping my area with the RootMetrics app. It's pretty shocking to see how bad Sprint data coverage is. Usually, there is a pretty good signal everywhere but the data speed is ridiculously slow. I'm kind of shocked that she's getting poor reception. Are you talking about dropped phone calls or slow internet connectivity?
-
Yes, I'm sure the introduction of the new iPhone model will make Sprint's network rollout go faster.
Apparently, everything is on schedule and just as planned.

LTE and the iphone 5! Hooray! Finally, some good news from Sprint!

There's some new phantom sites on Sensorly's maps in Oceanside, CA 92056. They seem to be exactly in the same spots where Sprint's fastest 3G data speeds are. I wonder if Clearwire shares towers with Sprint or vice-versa in these areas. I don't have a wimax phone so I can't test them out.

It was already shown in a court of law that Samsung blatantly infringed on apple and that it wasn't by accident but rather by systematic efforts to willfully steal from apple. For all the Samsung supporters, I wonder how you would feel if someone stole from you.

My 3G performance has been dismal lately. Areas that used to be near 1Mbps are now down to 250 kbps consistently. The network in north San Diego County is too crowded. Sprint needs more towers, data capacity or even Clearwire (gasp) to come in and install some network coverage. Something must be done!

I can't wait to see the September maps and the first San Diego sites!
