  1. The site at my work was 4g accepted last year. Over Christmas, we had 2 week outage for 3G phones only. Our phones were roaming and cycling between 1x Sprint and 3G roaming. 4g phones were not affected. It's all fixed now.

Unrelated to that, I know that AT&T is in the middle of a major speed/capacity upgrade of their uverse fiber lines in San Diego so maybe that is affecting the Sprint sites as well.

  2. No.

This site was not founded out of frustration waiting for wimax. This site was founded because Robert Herron and a select few other members such as Andrew J. Shepherd, Travis Griggs, and inumerable others were fed up with trying to discuss the Sprint Network and related telecommunications topics on websites such as SprintUsers and Sprint Community Boards.

They wanted a place to call home where they can discuss telecommunications and other relevant topics in an intelligent manner away from the common denominator so they (mainly Robert) founded S4GRU in order to have a place where like minded individuals can gather and discuss topics without every other post being "FUCK SPRINT! THEY SUCK - GO ATT OR VERIZON" etc.

So there was a lack of information and you wanted to share but found the current methods frustrating. You wanted to discuss network improvements and other telecommunication projects including the Sprint 4g rollout. Over time this site expanded to include other related topics. Whether you agree or not, most of the people on this site came here to find information regarding 4G in their area. This site is promoted that way.

  3. Thats revisionist history. This site was created before the LTE roll out started. Also in my experience Consumer Reports is clueless regarding automobiles and consumer electronics. I question the validity of their research and survey methods. They seem to be extremely narrow in their focus.

That's not revisionist. Yes, the site pre-existed the first 4G sites however the site is called Sprint 4G rollout updates after all. People found the site out of their frustration waiting for 4G wimax.

  4. The article wasn't about Network Vision. The article was about the poor customer experience at Sprint. Bravo to Consumer Reports for deducting points for the "pardon our dust" state of the Sprint Network.

The lack of upgrades and lack of information from Sprint have been frustrating for many. It's been so frustrating that it led to the creation of this very site so that people could regain some sanity.

Maybe in a few years Consumer Reports will reconsider.

  5. They have the most 3G upgraded towers of any vendor, but I doubt that would hold true for lte. Further, they should have the most towers online they have the more of the top 100 markets than any of the other vendor. THe problem with AL is they are slow to roll out lte and 800. If you compare the progress of first round Chicago to first round Washington, D.C. You soon see the difference in deployment speed. There are stil tons of sites in DC that are 3G only and only a handful in Chicago.

My area isn't getting 800 until after 2016 so I pretty much ignore 800 altogether. There's nothing that Alcatel can really do about it because of the international agreements.

  6. The only problem I've seen with Alcatel Lucent is their dislike of activating 800Mhz, but we all know there is good purpose behind that. They have the most upgraded towers out of all 3 manufacturers, so I think you should be glad.

In terms of percentages Alcatel doesn't have the most completed. The three vendors don't have an equal number of towers to upgrade. Alcatel has 44.66% of the towers and the other two vendors have 27.66% each. Alcatel actually lags in LTE deployments compared to the other two as percentage of work completed.

But all of that is irrelevant.

I hope they redivide the nation into 33% chunks to make the deployment more balanced.

  7. That's interesting since according to the NV sites complete map they've done more NV sites than either Samsung or Ericcson. Just sayin'...

So if you look at the division of the country you will see that Alcatel really is responsible for two regions in the country. This is equivalent to 54% of the top 20 markets. Ericsson is responsible for 25% and Samsung for 21% of the top 20 markets. So Alcatel is upgrading half of the population. They should have twice as many sites completed as the other vendors.

For the top 100 markets alcatel has 44%, Samsung and Ericsson have about 27% each.

  8. It really just depends on which market you live in. Some places will have tri-band coverage right away (like Chicago) and other markets (like San Diego) won't have 800 MHz because of the IBEZ nor will they have 2500 MHz because of inadequate infrastructure. Sprint needs more sites for a full scale 2500 MHz deployment. Son is correct when he says it will take YEARS to get Sprint up to speed. (IMO)
