  4. I remember reading that Puerto Rico would be the first market to use the 800mhz frequency for LTE. Does anybody know if this is true. I guess sprint controls those frequencies down here from the Nextel deal and has not been using them.
  5. Wow lots of new site in PR over the last week (13). They seem to be working their way around the island from the south. Not sure if NV 3G means they are ready to go 4G when the time comes.

  8. Another possibility is that much of the tower work in San Juan is done and they can turn those on quicker. I base this mostly on their stated launch dates. At 4 towers a week doing San Juan last makes no sense.

  10. They sure are working there way inward instead of outward. Not a bad sign since it means that less densely populated areas are not less of a priority.

  12. Well I don't think EVDO helps. HSPA and HSPA+ can definitely move data much faster. Doesn’t EVDO tie up more bandwidth for longer periods of time because it cant move the data quickly enough. Your using more frequency because your tying up that frequency for longer periods of time? I'm saying this off the cuff. I have always been curious about how all this works. When HSPA or HSPA+ give me 6meg down, is it doing it by grabbing a bigger section of frequency?

  14. Upgrading those towers must be a huge amount of work. If they do about 4 a week it will take them over a year to complete the job. I hope they don’t do this in a way that they give each area token LTE upgrades and then come back to complete it later. No LTE access on ATT is not bad. I get about 3-6meg down no problem on HSPA+ . With EVDO unless you have an LTE connection it is really at the low end of my expectations. If I could always get abuot 2meg down with unlimited data I would be happy but we shall see. LTE is really what is needed, not just upgraded 3g towers. I know that is where they are headed but I'll hold off on getting excited till I actually see that the deployment is going to be truly completed and all towers offer LTE.
  15. While I was in Barceloneta right next to he highway I did a test and got the best speeds I have seen yet on sprint (about 2meg down). I believe this is very close to one of the upgraded towers. The rest of the way between there and San Juan speeds were very slow or non existent.

  17. I may be in the Manati area today. If I am I'll check out those towers for speed. I would assume that if I get good upload vs. San Juan it will show they are online?
  18. Puerto Rico must have about 200-300 sprint towers. Does this NV upgrade mean all of them get new hardware and LTE?
  19. I went into the sponsors forum and saw the actual sites at least for San Juan.
  20. If you go by this map, Mayaguez really only had one sprint tower. Is that correct?
  21. Well I may wait it out but I have to say that what Sprint is selling right now is really a scam. It does not matter how cheap it is. Guess I should not be surprised after reading the forums but honestly what they offer in most areas I have been to is basically no Internet access or no Internet access that is of any use to most people. That is shameful. Before anybody jumps the gun, I am not trying to bash sprint. I want to come back. I had sprint in the early 2000s and liked them. As far them being cheaper I think that is debatable. On ATT I am grandftahered into the unlimited data. basically I pay $90 for what sprint gives me for about $80. Now granted sprint is truly unlimited vs. throttled once you hit 5 gig but even throttled the data on ATT is infinitely faster then what I seem to get on Sprint right now. Even if I was not grandfathered the 3gig most people get is not bad. given the coverage and performance. Is unlimited data really a good idea? I kind of have my doubts on this one. How long before sprint launches their new sites and they get inundated with the user base that consumes the must data (me for example). Is that the reason they got themselves into the position they are in right now? I'm rooting for them and would love to see them succeed but what they are selling RIGHT NOW and presumably for several years in this market is a scam.

  23. Having used sprint now for a day in the San Juan area I would say they don't offer any form of Internet. Until they deploy vision they might as well say they offer 0g. Unlimited nothing Internet.
