  1. You could not have put it better. The area I live in is served by FiOS and Cablevision. Why people still pay more to be with Cablevision is a question I cannot answer. I had cable my whole life, but once I moved to NY, I signed up for FiOS and it is by far the best, most reliable internet I have ever had. The speed and reliability puts my work's network to shame. The video is also superior to cable. A better fiber backbone can only help strengthen the economy. After all day traders in Europe paid big bucks to have faster transatlantic cables to decrease network latency across the pond to help with stock trading.

    /snip/

Cablevision works quite well for me since I only have Optimum Online(Basic tier 15/2). Most of my TV is via Hulu/Netflix/Aereo, This only cost me $30 a month(for 6 months, in which I can just call the and renew the deal since I live in a FiOS area). FiOS internet stand-alone is almost $60.

  2. I'm not so sure if Son + Co really want to get into a game of financial chicken with Ergen. The seems that Clearwire is a critical part of this this deal going through. No Clearwire, no Sprint/Softbank acquisition. Sprint can pull their acquisition deal from CLWR and fight the case of no-breakup fee, but whatever action/inaction Ergen decides to take is just too much of a risk for Son's acquisition deal.

  3. I don't see Sprint seeking for any divestitures from NewCo(T-Mo/Metro). The Sprint/Clearwire/SoftBank/USCC deal combo-pak is already moving it's way through our regulatory system. Not only would it look a bit greedy to go after NewCo for divestitures, but it may only bring another party that would get in the their way from getting these deals done.

As for what may come after these deals are completed, I don't see any budding relationship with Sp-ank-wire(don't google that) and NewCo for at least a few years.

  4. A re brand is not going to make anyone forget about Sprint's Network issues. AT&T became Cingular, only to become AT&T again. Nobody forgot about their garbage network because they changed their name.

But that slightly decomposed garbage turned into a very beautiful orange :D

Seriously though, re-branding something isn't worth it if something new isn't offered. If Sprint decides to go after the re-brand route, it should be done after a significant portion of NV is complete. I don't see rebranding necessary, but if given the time, negative sigma of the Sprint name from bad experiences from pass(and current) customers will fade.

Besides, I don't see people raving about how good Xfinity is in comparison to good-old Kabletown...
