  1. I've noticed isolated pockets of high SNR readings scattered around the city. If the T Mobile interference theory is correct, then SNR and speed would improve where T Mobile signal is weakest...until somebody makes a convincing case that network saturation hurts SNR, then I'm still not convinced lol. I was out in Elgin a few weeks ago and SNR was just as bad as in the city.
  2. I called customer care to complain today, and the rep stated that there weren't any know issues in the Chicago area. I was expecting a canned response along the lines of "we're working on the issue", but it seems odd that such a big problem isn't even in the system as a known issue for the reps to calm people down. It's almost like SNR related complaints are being routed straight into the recycle bin. I've switched off LTE on my Evo, and am enjoying superior performance on Evdo. Sprint could not be more opaque in their response to this SNR fiasco. As a tech nerd, I'm totally willing to put up with issues...I just like to know what's going on. Has it been confirmed by any other members that this issue is confined to the Chicago market?
  3. For a couple months now, the tower that covers the intersection of Clark and Diversey has not had functional LTE. If I switch to CDMA only, data works well, but if LTE is connected, the upload arrow will light up and stay that way...no data will actually move though. After this had been happening for about a month, previously assuming somebody else would report the problem, I called it in and cust service said they would look into it. Another month has passed and nothing has improved.
  4. Anecdotally, the loop seems to have better SNR that the north side. I know that 6 dB SNR is awful, but it's better than what I've been getting up north. Check out this screenshot from the Addison Red Line platform. When signal is this strong, the noise has to be pretty intense to get a number like this.
  5. Perhaps the demise of carrier iq has made sprint less aware of conditions on the network. Any chance this could be resolved Jan 31, post uscc?

  7. Backhaul can affect speed, but not SNR. If you have bad SNR, all the backhaul in the world won't help.
  8. I don't know what to do anymore, and it just seems to be getting worse. It's almost as though they aren't even aware of the problem...how else could it persist this long?
  9. I know that USCC is being shut down in waves, but do we know when Chicago specifically will go dark?
  10. It's not GS3s...just the timeline of events suggests that isn't a possibility.
  11. I'm feeling like if I call customer service and complain about SNR, nothing will be done about it and the person won't even know what im talking about...how do you report an issue straight to engineering?
  12. BTW, I'm getting 5 dB or less SNR on Evdo now. It doesn't seem to be affecting throughput, but pings are worse than they were when the network was functioning well.
  13. I'm guessing the rootmetrics data was collected even before the LTE speeds fell apart in the city. Could you imagine if the data was collected today?! There is absolutely no excuse for whatever is causing SNR problems to go on for weeks. Sprint should change their slogan from "The Now Network" to "Bear with us".
  14. My phone is now reporting an SNR that's a negative number...I take it to mean that noise is now stronger than the signal. Pings are about 200 ms with 0.1 megabit throughput.
  15. Wow i never even noticed the SNR until you pointed that out. Has anybody reported it?
  16. Would you care to share with the rest of the class?
  17. I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. The backhaul was sufficient a few weeks ago... Unless the population of Chicago doubled in the past few weeks, backhaul capacity doesn't explain whats happening.
  18. I still stands to reason that the system hasn't suddenly become overrun in the past couple weeks. It also would seem impossible that a city-wide slowdown would be attributable to problems with any individual towers. Are there any topics that anybody could direct me to that deal with how traffic is routed for a whole market?
  19. It seems like it's an issue with the Chicago 4G core, but knowing nothing about how it really functions, I'm merely speculating.
  20. Even pings have taken a nose dive. I wonder how sprint monitors the performance of the network...its disheartening because I cant imagine my home ISP ever having such problems for an extended period of time like this.
  21. Not only was the site acceptance report update the most activity I've ever seen from Chicago, but it seems they've been pretty productive in other cities as well!. I wonder if Sprints contract with Samsung has penalties for each day that the project is behind the original completion date. I know the contractor doing the red line reconstruction has to cough up thousands of dollars per day if they don't finish on time. Funny how that can get a contractor to stick to a schedule!
  22. I hope some of the progress in the past week has been loop related!
  23. Running list has been updated...at the pace we've seen LTE sites come online in the past few months it would be a couple years before all sites in the Chicago market were broadcasting LTE. 1% per month has held steady for some time now. Yikes.
  24. I didn't know that. Since USCC covered every inch of this city, does that mean some sites have already been shut down?
  25. Gotcha...so in addition to ethernet over copper, ethernet over fiber, and unlicensed microwave there are numerous ways to get a huge pipe almost anywhere in Chicagoland very quickly without ATT lol
