Word on the street is they've only just begun to gather the contractors and get equipment stocked. Best case scenario is they start applying for permits from now to the end of april. Even then, the fastest I've seen permits get accepted is 3 weeks (and it was for t-mobile's modernization program). So even then, I don't expect anything to start till at least the middle of may and nothing accepted until well into june. LTE .. hah... I'll be glad if I see anything til july...

I'm nearly 75% positive than t-mobile will have LTE before sprint down here (they've begun modernizing beginning in october with 5-10 permit applications every 2 weeks).

    But that's another story.

  2. Yeah, and in which case LTE would not be live, so this goes along with the way the rollout is happening.

Please clarify that statement. At what point is a tower "ready" if it's not ready to go live. I assume you mean ready for NV status and not necessarily LTE, but I am fairly sure the comments above were specifically about LTE.

A tower is ready to go live when: 1) New base stations and misc. equipment are powered, secured, hooked up, 2) antennas are in place and connected to RRU's and to the base stations, and 3) backhaul is connected so it can connect to the regional msc.

A network vision tower may go live after these basic requirements are fulfilled to undergo testing and adjustments. Any problems here that the contractor finds are thus corrected. When the contractors feel they are ready, they will contact sprint to indicate they are ready for inspection by a inspector (who is usually an employee of another independent vendor). If the inspector finds any problems, he will write it down and inform the crew and sprint that they failed inspection. The crew will need to fix the said problems and call for another inspection once they're done. If they pass the inspection, the crew is paid for their work and the site is thus officially "live" and accepted.

There are some outliers where the cell sites are materially finished but not live but those are special cases.

  3. All towers are upgraded the moment they are ready regardless if backhaul is in place or not. They will not just sit on a single thing as it just only slows down their work. If a tower does not have the neccasary backhaul in place then they'll upgrade it as is and hook it up to the legacy backhaul and only enable 3g and return for 4g when backhaul permits.

A network vision tower can and will use legacy T1 backhaul for 3g but 4g can and only will be turned on with upgraded backhual.

  4. Most Japanese companies attempt to reach a conglomerate status, and as such Softbank would be no different. Panasonic for example manufactures TVs, microwaves, fridges, ovens, telephones, some toilets, furniture, and bicycles, The Sony Group and Kawasaki Industries are the same way.

Westerners mostly do not understand this kind of business strategy, but then again look at the Fukishima radiological disaster. There was no rioting or looting, like you would have seen here in the United States or other Westernized nations. The Japanese have a very unique way of life that is founded on the basis of "politeness." I cannot completely understand the perspective or worldview that influences/relates to this, but it does explain a heck of a lot about how their society runs.

It's mainly based off Confucianism where everyone is expected to have a place in society and uphold that place to maintain harmony and peace. It's an Asian thing and one of the reasons why Asians are (forced to be) academically superior to nearly every other race. You have a place in society, you keep that place. If someone screws up then they'll fix it. People will learn from the mistakes and life continues on.

  5. See these following threads for a very, very informative discussion about T-mobiles 4g network and Sprints 4g network projects.

    http://s4gru.com/ind...-sprint-4g-lte/

    http://s4gru.com/ind...verybody-elses/

Long story short, T-mobiles currently does not plan to expand LTE coverage to areas that do not already have HSPA. Any areas that are Edge / 2g will stay that way for the conceivable future (at least till 2015) and will most likely not be touched until all their HSPA coverage have been worked on.

By 2015, Sprints Network will overall but much more attractive than T-mobile in terms of coverage and indoor penetration due to sub 1ghz spectrum (SMR 800) which will make Sprints LTE characteristics nearly equal to that of Verizon and ATT. T-mobile will no doubt sometimes have better LTE speeds in urban areas thanks to the fact that they own a lot of 10x10 in many areas of the country but once you get out of the urban area, you'll most likely drop to 2g which is a huge shocker. Sprint will have at least a minimum of 3g EVDO incase you get out of LTE range.

In the end. T-mobile is a very, very attractive option for urban dwellers who hardly ever go out of the city or travel around. Sprint will have a network that will only get better with time in both urban and more rural areas. Sprint/Clearwires TDD-LTE will put a damper on T-mobile speed wise if Sprint decides to deploy them in all of its urban markets while SMR 800 will put T-mobile to shame.

  6. So I hope Vegas get LTE soon, but as for now 3G just keeps getting better and better. I live off fort apache and horse (far as you can get from the strip) and I'm getting 2mb upload and download speed. I test it at least once a day. Back in February it was so slow in this area like .05 So something has to be going right. Plus I have a feeling within the next couple weeks there going to say that we can start using 4g LTE. Wouldn't be surprised if the whole Nevada area gets flipped on and that's why it's taking so long. But it's worth the wait because when I was in LA I got LTE and it was FASTER then Verizon and AT&T combined. Can't wait for 4g LTE.

Network Vision upgrades in the Las Vegas markets has been ongoing for several months already. Many sites have been accepted for 3g already and is why you see better 3g speeds now (upgraded backhaul). Alcatel-Lucent tends to bring 3g online first and then 4g several weeks later. At this rate, expect the first 4g blips to show in the next 30-45 days.

    2) All this talk about looking up at sprints website about upgrades is irrelevancy and plain idiotic. It's been repeated again and again that the updates shown on Sprints site is the sum of all maintenance work done by Sprint or its contractors either for legacy maintenance (bandaid fixes) or network vision. No one will or can be able to identify what is legacy bandaid fixes or what is network vision work from it so using that as a source is a no go. Only s4gru sponsors can reliably see what is going on with network vision upgrades and where they're taking place.

  8. This is a place to discuss Sprints Network Vision and everything associated with it. Not a place to discuss or rant about Sprints pricing, coverage, etc. S4GRU has always advocated that people get what best suits their needs even if it meant getting devices from ATT / VZ / T-mobile / Regionals if they served you better than sprint.

  9. Verizon and att aren't ripping out and replacing their whole network, like sprint is. All they are doing is slapping an lte panel on the towers. They aren't even touching their 3G network which is the reason they aren't dropping calls.

It really bothers me that people always whine about how sprint isn't doing a good enough job with their network rollouts and then compare it to verizon or att. Please do you homework before you continue your ignorant statements.

See the /s at the end?

    It denotes sarcasm.

  10. Can't wait to see what T Mobile LTE looks like here in Chicago. Love to see competition and with the continued drop calls with Sprint I would be willing to switch in a heart beat.

Much thanks to Motorola for designing excellent cellular equipment back in the early to mid 2k's for the Chicago and surrounding areas. Thank god it's highly compatible with new modular equipment that Samsung is deploying and doesn't drop calls when transferring from an old tower to an upgraded tower. Those drop calls is Sprints damn fault! Psht, Verizon and ATT can do it without disruption and so can T-mobile. Sprint sucks, I'm leaving!

  11. When I lived in Vacaville, thers were were many different local references to Sacramento. More than just SacTown. There was also Sac, Sacto, or even Sacra-tomato. However, Sacratomato was only popular in the pre-teen crowd. ;)

    Robert

What the hell is this? I mean... yes we have a lot of delicious tomatos when it's the season but Sacra-tomato????? =\...

Darn teens from the bay area (or near the coastal mountains)!

But typically we people from the city of trees call our hometown sac , sactown, or just plain sacramento.

  12. I will take that bet and raise you an additional six months. See my post in the NYC thread:

    http://s4gru.com/ind...091#entry119091

Furthermore, any MetroPCS CDMA1X carrier channel relocation and PRL reconfiguration has to be coordinated with all MetroPCS roaming partners.

    AJ

Your link didn't work so I quoted your post.. :P

What do I think? Wishful thinking. NYC will not see 10 MHz FDD LTE from T-Mobile anytime this year, potentially not anytime next year either.

Here are the real facts. T-Mobile holds 30 MHz of AWS spectrum in NYC, while MetroPCS holds 20 MHz. T-Mobile is currently running DC-HSPA+ (20 MHz) and deploying one 5 MHz FDD LTE carrier. That occupies T-Mobile's 30 MHz AWS bandwidth. MetroPCS, meanwhile, is running several CDMA1X carriers (10 MHz) and one 5 MHz FDD LTE carrier. That takes care of MetroPCS's AWS bandwidth.

In order to combine T-Mobile and MetroPCS AWS spectrum to deploy 10 MHz FDD LTE, MetroPCS will have to reprogram all devices to use T-Mobile LTE instead of MetroPCS LTE, shut down its own LTE in the AWS C block, push out new PRLs to all subs, and relocate its CDMA1X carriers from the AWS D block to the C block. Only then can T-Mobile extend its bandwidth from 5 MHz FDD LTE to 10 MHz FDD LTE.

In other words, it is a mess. Not gonna happen quickly...

  13. Sprint will not be #2. Not this year. Not next year. Not the year after. Does sprint have the opportunity, backing, and network to damage ATT and Verizon by offering a nation wide LTE network that doesn't bend the consumer over? Yep. Will millions upon millions of ATT or Verizon subscribers pay an ETF to leave for sprint in 2014? No. They will take notice and keep the option open and tentatively test out the network to see if sprints network is not utter crap thanks to forsee & crews incompetence.

  14. We are doing 30+ T-mobile LTE sites per week in Minneapolis.. installed and integrated.. they then get cell barred & blocked ..

I've been seeing applications for 5-10 t-mobile modernization sites in Sacramento every 2 weeks now since last november. These NSN panels are definitely LTE capable and blocked as PCS HSPA/+ still does not cover most of my city yet.

Funny thing is, there's this church bell structure on my secondary route home that I pass by all the time. Only recently did I find out it was a stealth site that was getting modernized.
