  1. So if the 3G work is done then the majority of the work is complete? Is that how I should interpret it? Then it's just a matter of when sprints schedule dictates the 4g work to start?

And i am heading over to that thread now! Thank you :-)

Actually installing the hardware is the majority of the work. There is still testing to make sure the parts are hooked up correctly and the broadcasting signal is correct and a plethora of other minor stuff. The part that is out of Sprints control is the backhaul provider which provides the internet connection.

  2. Question..... Obviously I am in the ALU area, my question is....if a tower is 3G NV complete, and I am getting 2.2 Mbps up and 1.1 Mbps down, does that mean that once they install the new panels will the LTE kick in? Or is there a big difference (tower work wise) between 3G complete and 4g complete? Just curious as too how long it takes for the LTE to go live after a tower is 3G complete? If work started on 4g Tom.

Look at the pictures in this thread.

This is the type of antenna that Sprint and their vendors are deploying. Two sides with 1900mhz antennas and an 800 mhz antenna in the middle. These are capable of both FDD-LTE 1900/800 and EVDO 1900 & CDMA 1xA 1900/800.

Once the physical work is done, the setup is capable of broadcasting any of the supported technologies with the addition of carrier card which will enable the technology as the base stations are modular and the RRU's installed already support the frequencies.

Shot Answer -- additional work or testing may be needed for the 4g hardware.

  3. little update maybe admin can confirm, apparently LTE and network vision is being delayed in this area by a little bit because of two main reasons. Vendors are taking their sweet time and Sprint is waiting to see whats going to happen with softbank.... i wonder if this is going to affect the launch nationwide

    Nope.

Deployment is on schedule regardless of the Softbank and Dish mess. In fact, deployment is now accelerating with every market being started by the three OEM's in the next few weeks. Backhaul may still be an issue but not much nowadays. Biggest issue is finding contractors to do the physical work.

  4. Okay, going to kill my wife though. Her phone is out of contract now and it's running on fumes...it's getting really bad. She is begging me to lte her upgrade to the iPhone 4s or 5 on Verizon, and said she doesn't mind if we switch to Sprint, but to do it now.

What type of speeds are people getting on 3g in LIncoln? To be honest, that last week or so on verizon, I have only been getting about .3 to .5

Expect that or even worse on legacy 3g sites until they upgrade the backhaul to NV ready status (you'll get 1-> 2.5 mbps if so) and upgrade the equipment.

  5. So is it crazy for me to jump to Sprint right now from Verizon, with the hope things are going to be getting better and that 4G is coming?

I will get a 23% discount hrough work with Sprint, which makes my bill from Verizon go down significally. In addition, I plan to cancel cable and just do Hulu/Netflix/ESPN (sprint tV)...

Or should I maybe wait a bit longer.

Wait a couple more months before taking the jump and watch the progress from here. Or you can suffer now but watch a historical process of how a carrier that was almost driven to the ground rebuild itself (and its network) to bring competition to the ruling duopoly.

  6. Hello i live in DC and we are in the process of getting network vision implemented. And i have some questions:

    1. Is network vision really that good?(faster speeds, more coverage etc..)

    2.Is indoor coverage better?

    3.Stronger signal strength?

    4.Internet speeds faster?

    5.3G really that much better?

In general is it really that much of a difference?

Thank you and sorry for the bad english not my first language.

  7. I was at Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted last weekend and they have a Sprint kiosk right next to the T-Mobile kiosk. I was with my buddy and one of the Sprint engineers was at the Sprint kiosk working on something and I know someone that works at the Sprint kiosk. The engineer said that this area known as Cleveland-West is complete with LTE and that they are just waiting for Sprint to give the OK to flip the switch. Now I'm taking that with a grain of salt but if this is true then I'm not very happy with Sprint but some of the reps I've spoken with at Best Buy and other locations have all told me that Cleveland is apart of the baulk launch in October. Once again I'm hoping that's not true either.

Uhm No. They're not going to "flip the switch" any time soon whatsoever. What Sprint is doing though is beginning to deploy in that area. Work has begun and will likely see acceptances within several weeks for some sort of NV upgrade be it 4g or 3g. The bulk of the work is planned to be done during the summer time which should mean that LTE should be available in many places (but not completely filled in) by the end of summer. By fall, a good portion of the market should be done so October sounds about right for a tentative market launch of certain areas.

On the other hand, SMR 800 / LTE 800 services will help a lot as the shut down of iDen progresses towards the complete shut down date of june 30 and there's good reason and confirmation that LTE 800 will be launched in the surrounding areas within several months.

  8. I wonder how hard it would be for T-Metro to acquire enough for nationwide, they have a fair amount of PCS/AWS to sell//swap for deals potentially. What would be the bare minimum they would need to get I mean top 40-60 markets?

I believe it's a mix of rural / small carriers and the blue death star that own the lower 700 mhz bloc. AJ should know.

  9. Just out of curiosity doesn't MetroPCS own some 700 Mhz spectrum? I wonder if T-Mo can stitch together a for coverage only amount kind of like how Sprint will use its SMR bands?

Metro has some 700 in pockets here and there. It is not economical nor feasible to just run 700 for select markets and get specialized handsets for those markets.

    Sprints SMR 800 is nationwide.

  10. I'm guessing T-Mobile started modernizing their sites in the SF Bay much sooner than Sprint did.

They've been modernizing in the central valley since late october and started the bay earlier than us. My guess is they started around the same time as Sprint did but they had it easier / faster for they did not had to wait for backhaul.

  11. It'll come soon enough. Nearly every major municipality that I've checked up on has sprint NV permits applied (and i've uploaded them on my sponsor permit applied map). The only areas where I could not find anything are areas which I cannot find permit reports online.

Speaking of which... most of these applications have been accepted many days or weeks ago... I wonder if contractors began working yet.. ho hum...

*looks at Lodi, Reno, Yuba City....*

Speaking of which... these lazy bums haven't even uploaded their april permit reports yet... garh...
