  1. My point is not how usable 5, 10 or even 20mbs is (I think 99% of users would be totally satisfied with 10mbs average) But rather what will those numbers look like in another 6 months to a year.

We know Att is busy deploying WCS, Verizon is king of small cell and Sprint has 2.5, what will Tmobile do? I think 600Mhz will do nothing for them and unlicensed spectrum would take mounds more density.

From what I am reading, I am not seeing the typical user experience being 5 mg in a market that has LTE Plus completed so I'm not sure it's a valid concern to worry about what the future will be like. I think the future will be LTE Plus with speeds as far as I am seeing that are significantly greater than what you are describing.
  2. I doubt the speeds will increase in bigger cities. Maybe smaller towns might see some improvements, but here in NYC, its brutal. Sprint without the second carrier have slowed down to sub 5mbs average, Att has been horrible here. Tmobile used to be a heck of alot faster, now its closer to 5-10mbs. Only Verizon has held up well, but even their speeds have taken a big hit.

It's crazy to think 10mbs during business hours in Midtown is actually as good as it gets.

Honest question: what day to day usage of a phone needs more than 10 megabits per second? I'm not at all trying to be antagonistic here I just don't understand how people use their phones to need more speed than that today.

  3. I love how it didn't show LTE speed tests but download demonstrations but a speed test would have been nice. They could show the speed test difference first because people like big numbers. Just don't make the mistake of broadcasting the ad in the many cities that don't have band 41 or CA because the backfire will not be pretty.

Disagree. I don't believe Joe Public cares about speed tests, knows what the numbers mean or knows how to run one. They care how fast their Facebook timeline or Instagram feed loads.

  4. After reading as much as I can find on this, I am really starting to feel like the original Recode article just didn't get it right. I really question whether the deployments that are primarily targeted for government facilities is actually the relocation of macro sites or whether it is the Mobilitie small cell deployments. Perhaps the existing two tower companies are now understanding the reality that they're not going to be in on this small cell deployment business and perhaps they took Recode along for a little ride of half truths when it came to this story?

Hoping this flies under the radar, otherwise we are headed for troll territory

Why is that a negative article? I don't see that as a negative. In fact, to me it explains the recent restructuring where Sprint went to a bunch of regional managers. If they are going to transition from private market tower leases to government properties then those Regional Managers essentially become lobbyists whose goal is to cozy up with local governments in order to secure great financial terms and easy approval processes for their equipment deployments.

  6. If you go to sprint.com/international Sprint has recently added international coverage maps. You can see areas of no coverage, areas where you'll be covered by Open World & Global Roaming coverage (light green and dark green) and areas where you'll be charged ($$$$) for casual roaming (light and dark purple). This is a very welcome addition!

I'm suspect of that new map because I just looked up Nassau Bahamas and it shows only purple coverage there which implies high cost paid roaming. However, the Bahamas is a partner country in Sprint's roaming programs.
  7. Yeah I have a long layover in Dubai in a few months. Would be nice to be able to use my phone while there.

I'm guessing that the roaming partners are Softbank's preferred partners? For example, I looked up South Africa, and it looks like Softbank will roam on all their carriers but they charge different rates. Vodacom is the cheapest rate, and seems to be the only one that has what I'm guessing are data packages for purchase ("packet flat rate"). http://mb.softbank.jp/en/global_services/global_roaming/area_id.html?country=6&id=20131004000000440 So I assume this is who Sprint would roam on there?

I believe there is free public Wi-Fi in the Dubai Airport. I have not been there since 2012 but I remember making a Facebook post to notify my family that I arrived.
  8. I know Android 6.0 Marshmallow is suppose to help improve battery lasting longer if I remember correctly. Any difference?

I updated by using the TOT file instructions on XDA. The standby battery life is insane. Last night the battery life on WiFi, while the phone was not being used, stayed at 100% for 2 hours until I used it again. It's too soon to judge the battery life during use.

I also did a reset from recovery after updating.

  9. I am having a terrible time on four Sprint lines with recipients of our SMS and MMS messages receiving multiple copies of the same message.

This problem is not isolated to just group and the mess. It is occurring on single recipient SMS. I've switched apps from Messaging Plus to Hangouts to the phone's built in message app. Nothing seems to make a difference.

My phone is g4, my wife has an S6 and my son has an iPhone and it is occurring on all of our phones.

This morning when I landed at the Atlanta Airport I sent my daughter an SMS. She got it four times. I sent my son an SMS from Atlanta and he got it twice. Last night my wife was part of a group message and she received the same message over 20 times and then suddenly this morning she received the same message from last night probably another 30 times.

I called Sprint technical support and their answer was that we needed to take all four phones into a repair store for a diagnostic. Please.

Anyone experienced similar problems of this magnitude and have any idea what to do?

  10. US cellular 3G roaming has been available to Sprint customers for a few months now. It's just regular roaming.

That's debatable. As I posted in another thread over the holidays I traveled in eastern and Northern Iowa and when I was connected to US Cellular my phone had no roaming indication of any kind. It looked native by all indications on the phone except when I looked at Signal Check Pro.

  11. i said it looks ok, but not a level of quality that would make me give up home internet and use hotspot + binge on for home use. your right people used to listen to tv shows on the radio, then watch them in black and white, they also used to use a hand crank to start their cars.... could u use a flip phone? yes but you choose to use a galaxy s6 active (according to your profile) you could certainly use something old, but you prefer a newer nice phone, i prefer something higher than 480P. Neither opinion is wrong but i would prefer you not mock my opinions just because they differ from yours. Thanks, Nick
