  1. I guess nobody here ever owned the OG Evo...or an Epic 4G....or any WIMAX phone when they were promised the awesomeness of a speed demon 4G network...and waited....and waited....and then WIMAX got scrapped for promise of Network Vision and upgraded to a EVO LTE or a GS3 or other LTE phone when there was minimal LTE network completed (and probably how they end up here) and still in many areas just a hint of LTE on the odd tower or not even on the radar yet?

If I bought a phone NOW without 800LTE support, I can almost guarantee with 100% certainty that I will be eligible for another upgrade by the time that part of NV is done in my area.

Unless you have the ability to know exactly when the next level upgrades will be completed on NV beyond the initial LTE roll out, then crying about the lack of phones supporting a non-existent part of a network is plain useless.

  2. another botch job for the us market. Announce the device, make a sweet upgrade offer, then watch the US market sit and wonder if the phone will be available before the upgrade offer expires. Maybe somebody smacked an HTC exec in the head since a 2 week window (if it was available today) isn't a very long one.

It sucks that this device is available in Europe (shortages be damned).

By the way, how can anyone say the US release of the phone won't be affected by the ultrapixel camera issues unless the phones are already built for each of the carriers and ready to ship...in which case we should have a release date already.

    end rant

  3. I registered for 4 lines since all eligible this year. I upgraded my daughter from the Epic 4G to the GS3, got her gift card, went back the next day for them to price match Radio Shack ($149 vs $99 - which they did wrong and credited me back like $99 plus a bunch of tax) and they asked if I wanted to also apply the gift card but I didn't have to.

Plan on using that one, and the one I'll get for my line on my upgrade to the ONE, the GS4 or to maybe snag a GS3 for free once they drop the price! I'll use my other two later in the year for the wife and younger daughter when they upgrade.

  4. seems like HTC can't seem to get out of it's own way anymore.

just doesn't bode well if they can't foresee these kinds of production issues until they've already announced the phone and I don't think they seem smart enough to do this as a marketing ploy to make it seem like the phone is so rare that everyone is lining up to get one....

  5. I might be the minority in this, but I think phone screens have gotten too big for every day use. I was impressed that HTC crammed in a 1080p screen into a 4.7" physical display, but I think that's the largest for me. I can't see myself using a phone with a larger screen one-handed, which is what I normally do today.

Waiting patiently to get my hands on the One, should be a blast to use.

Yep, was messing with my friends DNA (insert AJ joke here) and it just seems a little unwieldy - my daughters GS3 seems just about on the high end of how large a phone I want so the One may be the trick (of course I just blew the $100 I would get back from HTC on the deductible for a replacement 3D that I just shattered last night - the pain of which may make me hold out until the GS4 is announced just to be sure).

  6. so i'm confused will htc take my old evo 4G as a trade in for $100? even if the tool says it's worth $0. I would easily sell my 4G LTE for $112 to gazelle and buy the ONE for basically free....

yes...clearly states $100 or value of phone whichever is HIGHER. So if you trade in something the tool says is worth $0 - you still get $100 (unless I'm missing something), but if you trade in something the tool says is worth more than $100, you get the actual value up to $300 IIRC.

  7. Evo was the first 4G phone and is somewhat Iconic in that respect. The OG Evo was the reason I left Blackberry. It wasn't perfect but the mention was enough to perk up ears. I compared it the iPhone of the day and it wasn't even close. it had a kickstand!

Pretty sure the only other carrier to get an Evo branded product is VM which is piggybacked with Sprint, no?

I do agree that they (Sprint) fractured the brand with lousy followups...the 3D (nice but less than stellar as the OG's successor)...the View? the Design? the Shift?

The design of the 4GLTE was disappointing with the shiny plastic parts and less than desirable bugs (that still seem to be solved), while the OneX was a beauty.

Really - at this point - who cares what they call it as long as it works...out of the box preferably.

  8. I would like to see a slightly smaller version of this phone. For gaming and watching videos the 4.7 screen is really nice, but for practical usage, like texting on the go, and flipping through emails with one hand these size phones are just a bit too big for me.

I want to see a highly spec'd phone that is that size of my old EVO 4G, but about 1/3 thinner, and lighter. The T-mobile One S has the best feel in the hand of any phone I've held since I had my Nexus One, but the specs fell short (no NFC)...and it was on the wrong carrier.

I put a note2 up to my ear like i was making a call and my daughter asked if it was an ipad mini

I may be in the minority, but i'm there with mofus in that bigger ain't always better in tech.

  9. Anyone else notice that they put the microUSB port on the bottom again?!?! I think I'm happier about that than a person should be. On another note, I will be getting this on launch day if it gets LTE 800, HD Voice and there are no serious bugs or issues when the tech blogs post their reviews.

As one who uses a cupholder to rest my phone in while charging in the car, this makes me unhappy.

    LTE800? no chance.

  10. I'd bitch about the embedded battery - but 2300 is pretty solid. the 2100 in the GS3 seems to go all day even in my daughter's hands so this might no longer be an issue.

if it's 32GB or 64GB options, then the SD card is not really much of an issue either...I used to convince myself of that but with play music and pandora I store less and less on my phone...just for times when network access is an issue.

  11. so long story short - got her the GS3 and may have convinced myself to get one as well (not looking forward to a 5" GS4). Of course, I missed the $99 window at BB and it was $149...when I mentioned it the gal reminds me 30 day price match...found it at RadioShack on sale for $99 today so I'm heading back to get the difference...$49 net for this phone is pretty damn good.

  12. I wish I could find some decent rumored specs about the GS4. I just got my daughter the GS3 and I gotta admit it is pretty sweet, so much so that I almost upgraded myself to one...but I'm holding off to see if this M7 might be the "ONE" to move to since I fear the GS4 will be another behemoth (hearing the Note3 is going to be a 6.3" screen...wtf?).

  13. As Proverbs 11.14 says:

Where there is no guidance, a people falls,

but in an abundance of counselors there is safety

Check them all (htcevohacks, xda, and pocketables) out but you'll probably end up at revolutionary.io, which is what I used.

Only if he's rocking an OG Evo - I don't think Revolutionary works with the Evo LTE

  14. Not a fan of the S3 honestly....prefer LCD to amoled and have never liked TWIZ...hoping the M7 does the trick for me and then my 10yo gets my 3D (she's on my old BB Curve since her handed down Samsung Rant just died).

  15. actually 99 at BB with the $50 gift card reward makes a GS3 more palatable...though the victory would be nice for free and similar to her current phone (less the slider but plus LTE for future)...argh!
