  1. Another vote her for OMJ's BadBoy KitKat ROM. Was running the old Viper (not ViperROM) but dev stopped at JB. Support by OMJ and Benny3 is outstanding.

BTW - how's your battery on stock 4.4.2? I noticed a precipitous drop after flashing from JB, so much so I'm testing a custom Kernel now to see if it helps.

not sure why my quoted posts aren't showing here...

  2. So I'm having my classic dilemma when ever I have a new phone. I want to root this phone so badly. Has anyone rooted theirs? I've read online that it's been really simple to root. If you did what's your current ROM?

    -Luis

Took all of 5 minutes using Hasaan2000's root kit on XDA. Then do the terminal version to achieve s-off (not moonshine since that installs a diff bootloader)...then install Viper or CleanROM for the most stock experince minus bloat or take a shot with one of the now dozens of available custom AOSP/CM/AOKP roms out there.

I've been on Viper since it came out...gonna give CleanRom a shot this weekend since I loved Scott/Benny's work on the OG EVO.

  3. anybody using a Mophie juice pack on their ONE?

    http://www.mophie.com/product-p/2370_jp-htc-one-blk.htm

I've run into a couple situations where I forgot to charge my phone and needed to snap a few pics (daughter's drama awards last week) only to find my phone at 4% and dying mid-pic.

battery for me has been mainly outstanding. I can take off charger, use email and surf throughout the day, listen to music, and still be 40%+ when I leave work (would be on last legs on my old 3D).....but I'm thinking it might be a good option for when I'm stupid and forget to charge or am camping for a weekend without easy charger access.

  4. is it just me or anyone else find it amusing that we went from everyone complaining about how huge cell phones were and being amazed when phones like the RAZR finally hit the streets and rejoicing as they got smaller and smaller...

    will+ferrell+tiny+phone.jpg

And now we're going back to clammoring for bigger and bigger!

(and yes I know it's the smartphone vs phone)

  5. Ok so the Voicemail app has persistently, over the past three days, been telling that a new update is available and that it's ad supported. I don't want the update, and I try dismissing the notification but it comes back every single hour. How do I get rid of the notification?

    -Luis

right there with you - i hate it. i got enough stupid ads on apps that i don't need one on my freaking voicemail regardless of stupid feature upgrades i don't need/want.

I just want my voicemail to play back my messages. VVM is nice, but I don't need transcriptions or sending to email or any of that other crap.

there should be an opt out of the upgrade other than cancel which leaves the vmail icon in the notification bar where i think i've got a vmail to check.

  6. anybody having problems with call quality? A few minutes into any call and the inbound gets super choppy and outbound starts acting up like i'm losing signal.

I'm not using a death grip, happens either handed and I'm not pinky'ing the mic...happens in home on airrave, in car, standing in parking lot.

    Lemon maybe?

  7. My ONE doesn't perform as well as my daughters GS3 in poor signal areas and in those areas seems to only be minutely better than my 3D. I'm also experience random choppy audio on calls so I'm wondering if it's defective or what.

    might be a lemon...

  8. anybody having issues with downloads failing? tried to download several video clips last night from various sites and no matter if i tried to save to phone, stream, save with ESdownloader or play with ESstreamplayer they all crapped out.

it's almost like my wi-fi drops for just a second and kills the connection. I've got it set on 2.4 only and best performance (if i leave on automatic it drops all the time) and I'm less than 20 feet from a Cisco range extender getting full bars.

  9. I've seen this attributed to a small target area (which the alleged fix is supposed to address) but I've not had any issues myself so I can't offer more than these are just some of the joys of early adoption and getting a device on launch.

  10. Sounds like a comparison between an S3 and EVO LTE. Sounds like HTC got this one up to the level of the Samsung devices. Good deal!

How's the bootloader and rooting deal? Easy? Crazy like the evo lte got?

    Sent from my little Note2

I used Hasoon2000's unlock/root kit...took about 10 minutes total...did notice my bootloader shows "TAMPERED" now though (not that I care). Hopefully won't be too long to get s-off.

  11. Mikeyxda is developing for the note2 on VZW now.

crap I'm still running his meanrom ics on the 3D that's about to become a hand-me-down.
  12. Just curious, has anyone found a way to remove/disable blinkered?

Give it time and one of the devs @ XDA will likely have a way to remove it. You could just set a different panel as your home screen and never look at it....viperboy already as a working ROM up, there's a unlock/root toolkit as well. Hoping some of the other top HTC devs head over as well (Scott, aamikam, mikeyxda, etc)

  13. it'd be freakin awesome if these idiot carriers all shared the spectrum and technologies and all phones worked on all networks. You'd pick your carrier based on price and service. you can go to any target or Wal-Mart and buy a phone for a landline that plugs in and works (assuming you still have a landline) regardless if your carrier is Telco/cable/voip or whatever right? pipe dreams I know.

  14. that's what I mean. I don't hold any notions that HTC sales of the one will be more than a distant 3rd to the GS4 and whatever iteration of iPhone comes out this fall. But if you had 100k people with a ONE before a GS4 then they can create the buzz and load the net with its (assumed) awesomeness...

Wouldn't put it past Sammy to hold the GS4 until they know when the ONE is actually available and then VOILA...GS4 hits the shelves.

  15. Someone in the comments of the article above linked to a news story about a patent dispute with Nokia as a reason for the delay. This is the first I've heard of that, and its from a site I've never heard of.

    http://www.brightsid...hain-blows.aspx

Seems like anyone and their grandma has a tech "blog" these days that simply regurgitates "news" from other links & sites and almost always includes the requisite Android/iPhone comparison and wishy-washy opinion on the latest Android phone as an 'iPhone Killer".

No phone will ever be an iPhone killer. Period. End of Story. My mom, dad, step mom all have iPhones - why? because they are simple and require virtually no learning curve to operate. They don't care about specs, rooting/jailbreaking, screen sizes or ppi, and for the most part use minimal apps. They like that they can take calls and read emails and occasional texts. They are in their 60's. Hell I doubt they even use them much for music if at all.

I venture that 99% of iPhone users have never heard of Cydia...I just wish everyone would get off the comparison train - it's rare for anyone to switch and discussions usually end up in fanboy ranting.

HTC just needs to get it's act together on multiple fronts, or the GS4 will crush them into dust.

  16. ^ what he said

If the early reviews are "killer battery life...camera is epic...faster than my PC at home" types then I'll wait through sell outs and backorders....but if they're just fair-ta-middlin, then it'll be an enticement to wait for the GS4.

This sort of reminds me of the auto show concept car....look at all the awesomeness it brings and then wait and see if it actually shows up on a dealer floor.

  17. gone daddy gone, the one is gone....yeah it's gone daddy gone...the one is gone....

not Blister in the Sun...song is Gone Daddy Gone.

but agreed...HTC should have had the forethought to have these bad boys ready to hit stores as soon as it was announced. Get all the ducks in a row and say "HEY check out this killer phone and oh yeah you can buy it TOMORROW!"
