  1. Hmmm...I like that it brings both removable storage AND battery back into play. I hear the camera is pretty amazing, but hesitant to go another step up in size.

Have to dig around on XDA and see how easy it is to root/custom ROM too.

  2. Thanks AJ...I may bite the bullet and just buy an S5/S6 off swappa or ebay. I'm only paying $1/mth on my M9 lease so it's not uber painful to have it collect dust.

I really love the HTC design, features, ease of root...but it's getting to be less and less worth the headache.

Edit: until I went back and looked at all the issues with the S5 and poor S6 RF...LG maybe? Ugh. Might have to explore a new Nexus.

  3. You said she's on wifi most of the time at the college and would guess the same for home. Plus wifi at every Starbucks, McDonalds, Target, and who knows where else would mean issue would only crop up when traveling and why is she worried about data when driving somewhere unless she's addicted to streaming Spotify or Pandora or something.

3g > 2G > No G. 3G is absolutely usable for most data needs anyway. Consider these forums to be your intervention convincing you to escape the Magenta Curtain!

  4. There seem to be several levels of fanbois...two popular ones:

Your network sucks and mine is great and nothing you say, no data you show will prove otherwise (lots of TMO from what I've seen)

Our network is improving but we know we have a ways to go, but damn get ready when it's done. (Sprint)

I just don't see the rampant hatred spewer from Sprint fans that I do from TMO fans. Hence the comments were really, really surprising (Fabian excluded of course).

It's as if some of them think data is the only thing a phone is used for. I don't care if I can download a song in 12 seconds if I can't call my kid to tell her I'm running late picking her up from school (using BT of course since texting while driving is illegal!).

  5. Maybe CA network work is still part of the issue, but I was in Laughlin this weekend (hello 117 heat)...standing next to my daughter she exclaims "wow, I've got great 4G here!" on her S5...I look down to see 1 bar and then flips to 3G.

Again, this is across the river from a live 4G tower and between two others on the Nevada side...

  6. Wished I never dropped my M7.

Whatever the root cause is - crappy provisioning, network optimization issues, poor real world RF - I think this phone is a loser.

If ANYONE knows how to tweak things so improve RF performance, I'm all ears. I don't know what's going on, but in areas by my office where I used to latch onto a usable LTE signal, now I end up roaming 3G on VZW...WTF???

I dread looking at my battery life because that little bar showing network is 99% red.

  7. Until the Sprint experience improves in more major markets (LA/OC/SD as a HUGE example), a rebrand is useless.

You don't want a "new name, same crap" feeling.

But I do sort of like Spark Mobile.

Optimus Mobile? (referencing Optimus Prime and the TRANSFORMATION of the old Sprint)

  8. Becoming somewhat disillusioned with this phone. Still having issues with it latching onto LTE without an airplane model toggle. Still having band swaps - was out back of my office and it would jump from B41 to B26 to 3G to B26 and back to B41 every few seconds.

    Just frustrating.

  9. Another good Legere parody actor could be Toby Huss.  And for added value, you Tri-Staters who were cognizant in the 1990s will get a kick out of this.

Personally I'd prefer Legere in a "cut in half" commercial with the weed whacker chick going after his hair while he's being chainsawed.

  10. still seeing that the M9 hangs on to 3G for dear life ... but will eventually switch to LTE.

IMO more fine tuning is needed for the radio. Sensorly is still showing my home as being covered (so somebody's getting LTE there with Sprint) but it and the area around it are still basically dead zones for my M9.

  11. Any improvements seen?

    I just posted on XDA

I've noticed an improvement in the radio as well. At my desk I used to watch it flip between B41/3G/1X/No Data...now it's parked on B25 which I never saw in my office before. I agree it's still too aggressive in holding onto 3G. I tested in a spot where I can get a fringe LTE signal and it wouldn't make the jump from 3G without a toggle of airplane mode.

  12. Where do you get such a loyalty credit?

I'm on ED1500...a while back I got a letter "from Marcelo" via overnight delivery (what a waste of money) about a loyalty credit....I dismissed it since I didn't want an S5 at the time.

When I broke my M7 and went to Best Buy for a replacement they said I qualify for a $19 (better than the original Sprint $15) loyalty credit if I leased or went Easy Pay. I now lease for net $1/mth and paid zero out of pocket (no tax even).

I have the same $15/mth offer on two of my remaining lines that I will likely upgrade from S3 to S5 very soon.

  13. will be loading up custom rom with the new firmware/base hopefully tonight so I can run around and see if the few reports I've seen of this fixing the LTE issues are true.

  14. Leasing in general just looks like a bad deal to me, regardless of who's offering it or who happens to be cheaper. The math on the plans doesn't seem very good, especially if there's any chance a person will damage their phone.

Other people seem to like it, and that's great for them. I don't see much harm in offering it. But I don't think I'd ever recommend leasing to someone -- it looks like you need a very specific use case to get a good deal out of it.

I'm leasing my M9...$20/month lease with a $19 loyalty credit means it's $1/month. HTC gives you "Uh-Oh" protection for a year. I have a case and putting a glass screen protector on it to prevent major issues. My M7 was the first phone I've broken and that's mostly because I kept it nekkid.

In two years I'll have paid $24 for the phone and then I'll look at something new.

I'm also seriously considering taking the last 2 GS3's on my account and leasing GS5s for free with loyalty credits. That'd put me close to having all 4 devices within a few months of each other.
