Liking my Pixel 5 so far.. after finally getting used to face unlock on the Pixel 4, I catch myself staring at the Pixel 5 for a second before remembering to use the fingerprint reader.. no problems so far, the phone seems very snappy. I really like the matte back. Screen and camera are very good as always. The minimal front bezel and punch hole selfie cam is cool.

I was a Sprint customer, but the Pixel 5 is preferring T-Mobile, while showing the roaming 'R' when connected to Sprint sites. I learned that this is because it's a newer 5G-capable device so ROAMAHOME was added.

I have connected to T-Mobile NSA 5G, but no standalone yet. Looking online, is sounds like the only official response is that standalone is "coming soon" -- has anyone connected to SA with the Pixel 5 yet?

How the RF performance on the Pixel 5? I’m hearing reports that it’s not as good as the 4...Comments?

    They'll probably run:

    • B12/B14 and B5 at 4x4 through the lowband ports via a 700/850 diplexer
    • B2 and B66 at 4x4 through one of the mid/highband arrays via a PCS/AWS diplexer
    • B30 at 4x4 though the other mid/highband array

They don’t own any B12 or B5 in this area, so B14 is all they have for low band here. They can actually run everything else with this 1 panel?

  3. ATT is finally building out in SW Iowa. There’s a couple new towers now up, the antennas are still laying on the ground. I took a stroll over for a closer look. I have attached some pictures, this means these panels are capable of broadcasting B14, B2, B4 and B30? But not all 4? So they will for sure do B14 and only 2 of the other 3?

This site went live this week, less than a month after being installed. All bands appear to be active other than B5 since it's now being used for NR here. They already have it meshed well with the surrounding macro sites. I'm noticing on these new sites they seem to be strictly B12 and B66, no MFBI for B4 and B17 phones.

Interested in knowing why there is 3 panels on one sector? What is that 3rd panel adding?

  5. What is the trick for activating eSIM on this phone? I have been on the phone with Sprint for 45 minutes and they just want me to keep factory resetting the phone. So irritating.

When I go to the network menu and tap the plus button, then Sprint, it comes up with an error that i can't be activated. The IMEI and EID number have all been entered in on Sprints end. I have the unlocked Pixel 4 XL. I have had no problem activating eSIM on the previous Pixels I've had so I kinda thought I knew what I was doing :(

I'll also mention that it sometimes can be extremely difficult to connect to a small cell.  At one site in Ravenna, OH, only one of three of my phones successfully found the signal.  And that was after several airplane mode cycles.

What’s the point of these cells if they’re that hard to connect to? The regular customer isn’t going to know the cell is there let alone power cycle their phone to connect to it. If they’re there to help take the load off the macro network why aren’t th phones connecting to them normally?

What can we expect in terms of LTE carrier handoff?  With Sprint's current and future implementation, will LTE handoff's between networks be possible?

I know you were referring to Sprint but Verizon VoLTE is able to handoff to their LTEiRA partners and vise versa so it's definitely possible. On my Tmobile phone it will not handoff from a VoLTE call on US Cell to Tmobile. It won't go from a wifi call to VoLTE either on USC.

nice to have confirmation that there is something they can/need to do on their end to get it to work if its not.

It won’t work to call into the regular support team, it takes engineering to fix it and I got access through them by emailing John.
The regular support team just give canned responses and I usually know more then they do.

no it auto connects, i was just manually selecting it while testing things out. iWireless hasn't enabled VoLTE on their network so there is no VoLTE on tmobile in iowa...... so based on that i don't think calls will carry over from network to network.

glad they are getting something figured out for you! i haven't used a ton of data while on USCC but as far as i can tell its counting as native usage, not roaming.

I was able to connect to USC yesterday afternoon. Works great. Shortly after that Tmobile called me to check if it was working. I pushed her on what they changed/fixed. She didn't know but said a lot of "technical jargon" was being passed around in emails regarding my account that was over her head. She did mention one of the last things they did was whitelist my phone. Not sure why they would need to do that because I'm using a Tmobile branded V30. She also said other customers were having issues connecting to USC. I did swap my SIM over to a Pixel 2XL and it wouldn't connect..so the phone does matter. I've used quite a bit of USC data now and it's showing as native usage on my account.

I tested trying to carry a VoLTE call from USC to Tmobile and it won't do it :(. It just stayed on USC network even into Tmobile native and what finally dropped the call was when I crossed into NE where USC don't have VoLTE enabled. I was hoping it would be seamless coverage like Verizon and their LTEiRA partners. I can cross between their networks and it won't drop the call.

  10. i went to howell's pumpkin patch on sunday, its south west a little bit from cumming, ia. i was definitely on the border of allowed US cellular towers to roam on. sometimes i was able to select US Cellular and connect to it, other times it wouldn't let me on. my guess is i had a tower N/NE of me that wasn't allowed it that it tried to connect to sometimes and another one S/SW from me that was allowing it.
I still haven't been able to connect anywhere in Iowa. The last couple days I've been all over Iowa and I've never connected. I sent an email to John Ledger which got me in contact with executive response team. They have been looking into it and they let me know last Monday there was a problem on the backend of my account and they have escalated it up to engineering.

So you always have to manually connect? It won't automatically connect on it's own? What about when your on a VoLTE call on TMobile and you cross over to USC, would it hold the call? These are all scenarios I look forward to testing.

  11. thats so weird..... it has to be something on US cellular's end where they didn't get those towers setup to allow the connections, but yeah, where do you go to get help on that?!?!? if i'm in the des moines area and try and select us cellular it sits there for awhile and then comes back saying "unable to connect (maybe register) to this network at this time" but up in the huxley area it connects right away when i select it. so obviously they have the ability to control which towers allow people to roam on them, which points to it being on their end.....

I’ve been working in Dayton the last couple weeks and it won’t connect there either..that’s not to far from where you connected. I’ve been wondering if it could be a SIM issue? But I can connect to Vaeiro Wireless in NE and ATT HSPA just fine so I don’t think it is..

  12. it didn't hit me until now that you are the same user on reddit i've been replying to about LTE roaming on US cellular [emoji4] i contacted t-force on facebook when my wife's iphone connected to us cellular but mine didn't. i have no idea if they did anything or not but after talking to them it started working for me. now every time i go back up to the huxley area all i have to do is search for networks and pick us cellular and it connects right away. i don't know how it happened but i did notice that at some point while i was messing with things my data roaming option got turned off. not sure how that happened :/ only other thing i can think of is to go somewhere where its confirmed working and see if you can get connected?

Haha yea I knew you were here to. Like I said on reddit I’ve contacted support and also TForce and they aren’t any help at all. I’ve tried my SIM in iPhone 8, OnePlus 3, V30 and Pixel and they all refuse to connect.

Also my ATT Mobley hotspot line now connects to USC LTE. I wonder if a smartphone line on a VoLTE capable phone would work to..

  13. Didnt T-Mobile just acquire the rest of Iowa wireless? Probably just going to use, and upgrade their own towers there now.

There's huge holes in iWireless's coverage and also a lot of it's edge yet.

Sometime in the last couple days USC LTE roaming showed up on T-Mobiles coverage map as partner 4G LTE coverage in a bunch of Iowa but I'm still unable to connect to it.

Are these usage figures self reported?  And are they trustworthy?  People will under/over report and cherry pick numbers to suit their agenda.

"I use only 13 GB per month" could mean that is the data I used one month, while several others months I exceeded 22 GB.

Regardless of total usage, subs who are consuming a significant majority of their data on LTEiRA partners should not be VZW subs.  That is a mismatch.

Somebody is quoted in this article they used .07 GB the last 3 months. Also the rural carrier in this area is not signing up new customers so people have no other options.

The sub article seems to be the most accurate: https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/verizon-terminating-certain-rural-customers-for-excessive-usage/

Basically claims that these users are exceeding network limits of 22GB per month / 10GB hotspot per month which Verizon was unable to manage.  Accurate?

Not sure about managing after 22GB but Verizon is cancelling users that were using less then 22GB. I’ve heard of one that uses ~13GB and another in the 16 range.

If you're on B13 for an LTEiRa provider, it shows as a Verizon signal, however if you have a 1x or 3G signal, it will show the local provider information for that. At least that's how my work phone (with signal check) has shown the information in the past when I've traveled out of network.

Yes this is right. If you have a Verizon phone that has VoLTE enabled it shows Verizon and it is impossible to tell that your roaming on LTEIRA even when looking at third party apps. If the Verizon phone is not using VoLTE it will show Extended LTE in these areas as it is using CDMA for voice.
