  1. My observations about the time problems. First, my N5 had no issues with the time. It switched just fine to DST. I don't know if the problems above are related to the N5, to Android, or to Sprint's incomplete upgrades but I've had two instances in the last 9 months or so where the network was sending my phones the wrong time zone. Last summer, the cell phone nearest my house would set the time zone for my Samsung Conquer and Motorola Photon smartphones to Mountain time even though I am in the Central time zone. At that time Sprint said there was no problems with the network but the problem mysteriously went away the same day they did their investigation. I did some extensive traveling through 3 different time zones and many states about that time and all other cell towers synced the correct time to my phones every time. I frequently travel to a small town in New Mexico. Since Thanksgiving, the cell tower in that town resets my smart phones to Central time even though the area is in the Mountain time zone. This has happened to the Conquer and the Photon, and now to my N5. I use Ting for service and this time Sprint confirmed to them there was a known problem with the upgrades they were installing. The interesting thing to me and maybe one of the gurus will have an answer is that the dumb phone on my account was not affected by this time problem, only my Android phones were affected. DC
  2. Thanks Mike. Appreciate the help. I'm being told by some Ting users of the Nexus 5 that installng the SIM card before first power up makes the activation process go much smoother. If I can keep my paws off the power button until I get the SIM, I'll start by installing the SIM and then unlocking the boot loader as you suggest. Then activation, then root and/or custom recovery. 3. Hey Everyone, Been lurking for awhile. Decided to join up after getting a new Nexus 5. Waiting on the SIM card to arrive and have a few questions about setting up the phone. At some point I intend to unlock the boot loader and root the phone. May or may not install a custom recovery. I plan to activate the phone on Ting (Sprint MNVO). I am curious about the best order in which to get the phone set up. Should I install the SIM card, then activate, then unlock and root? Or should I unlock and root before activation? If I understand correctly, installing a custom recovery will stop Android OTA updates. Will this also affect the Spark update that is due this quarter? Should I wait for the update before unlocking and rooting? The only thing I've done at this point is to put the phone on the charger. Feel free to toss out any other suggestions for getting this phone set up and working. Thanks, DC
