1. Here is the part of interest from an Fiercewireless article (thanks to PythonFanPA[emoji20]

First, Shentel’s Earle MacKenzie said, Shentel cannot file an injunction to try to block the merger. If the merger is approved, the combined Sprint and T-Mobile—generally called New T-Mobile—will have 60 days to decide whether it wants to purchase Shentel’s wireless business.

“If they do decide to buy our wireless business, there is a formula that you provide to our shareholders, a very handsome return. If they choose not to buy our wireless business, Shentel will remain an affiliate of the New T-Mobile and for the next 180 days, we have the option to acquire the T- mobile customers and that work in our 7 million POPs service area at 75% of the value of the customers and asset as determined by the merger value,” MacKenzie said during the call, according to a Seeking Alpha transcription of the event. “If we can’t finance the purchase, then the New T-Mobile will finance the purchase at their cost of capital for up to five years. If Shentel decides not to buy T-Mobile network and customers, then the new T-Mobile must turn off the T-Mobile network that overlaps Shentel within two years.”

I think it’s going to be good for everyone. I would expect it to be bumpy in the beginning but in the end I think it’ll be good.

  2. Anyone know what happens to Shentel now that the merger is approved? Does Shentel get to stay? I know they have to fulfill their contract but I meant beyond that..

Best case scenario is they remain an affiliate of the new TMo. Shentel has 20 years of excellent performance for Sprint so hopefully TMo will see that and allow us to continue to do what we do. Nothing is being said as of yet, I guess they still have to negotiate with the SA that are suing to block the merger and I read that isn’t even going to court until October or later. So it could be awhile before we see anything out of this.

  3. Just noticed in the most recent coverage maps that it now shows coverage all the way up the Ohio side of route 7 (Ohio River Scenic Byway).  This area used to have no coverage at all.  Four or five months ago LTE coverage showed up on the maps around Crown City, Ohio and I went up that way and still had no service.  The next month the map was updated and the coverage shown had been removed.
Anyone know if this is accurate?

Looking at my map I see a tower just outside of Crown City in service and then one north in WV near Apple Grove and one to the south of Gallipolis. To the south there are no towers on the Ohio side, nor do I see any future planned builds. The towers are all on the WV side - Huntington and Pea Ridge.

  4. I've seen a Silverado pickup plastered in Sprint branding visiting cell sites around the Beckley area. He was in a parking lot below a Sprint site doing something on a laptop not sure if this is notable or something routine?

Our service trucks are 2500 4dr Silverado’s. Vinyl Sprint stickers on them. Probably a service truck. Where about a was it?

  5. Does anyone know if Shentel will be deploying 5G or will that be taken over by Sprint?
The Sprint 5G map: http://coverageort.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp? currently only shows 5G deployed in the NoVA area which I don’t think is under Shentel.. (Put a pin down in a location to see if it already has 5G.)
I know it’s still very early but, I’m just wondering.

We will be deploying 5G yes

  6. VoLTE isn't enabled yet in the Shentel market. I can carry over a call from Wifi calling to VoLTE (voice call continuity), but can't start a VoLTE call straight from LTE. I would think it will come soon, but it's not here yet. I live in the Shenandoah Valley and travel to Allentown, PA quite often so I go through a good chunk of Shentel's original area from Woodstock, VA to past Harrisburg, PA (where the Central PA market and then the Philly market pick up on I-78) and have yet to see it. I've been in the DC and Philly markets though and have used VoLTE and it seems to work well. Hopefully we'll get it soon.

I was told that soft launch was taking place 12/13 overnight into 12/14 for select devices. (Samsung S8 and above, iPhone 8 and above and LG V30). Coming in OTA update. I can’t verify this... maybe someone else can verify this? VoLTE will need to be enabled in Network settings.

  7. Apparently roamed on T-Mobile band 4 In Chambersburg,PA, south end. This area is normally fine with a great Sprint Signal.
    Shentel area.
Do not know why I had this roaming and it was fine later when I went back the same way. No roaming on the return trip.1168899740_Band4-Chambersburg.thumb.jpg.f81adfd4516b61ac695217785a9a4036.jpg

Tower or that sector was down most likely. [emoji38]

  8. My personal experience back in 2015 when it was still run through nTelos they had a lot of B41 in Charleston/Huntington/Morgantown/Princeton but I never once saw it here in Beckley, even still 3 years later I frequently check via my family members devices for B41 and it's still a no show.

We don’t have the 2.5 available to us in the Beckley markets so it will never be here, or so I’m told.

  9. I dropped my G5 awhile back and broke the screen. Didn't want to pay the 150 (?) deductible for an out of date phone so I just went and got a different phone. I do miss my G5 from time to time. It took better pictures than any phone I have had to date. I did NOT miss all the bloatware and useless apps that came with it as part of Sprint and some from LG. Hope it gets Oreo soon!

  10. The tweet was from the Raleigh County Chamber account it seems to be open to the public and has an RSVP number to call. I am going to try my best to go just to hear what they have to say. Hopefully, it is more than just s promotional thing to have people sign up.

Glad to hear they are having an event like this. They should do something like this in the Summers County area. We’ve made huge improvements down that way as far as tower additions go. Now with additional towers in Beckley and expansion into Wyoming McDowell counties coming soon it’s a great time to be a Sprint customer.
