  1. That is a common issue with LCD displays and polarized glasses.  It is possible that previous LCD displays on phones you guys have used something to compensate for that like a circular polarization filter.  I'm curious, does this happen in both landscape and portrait mode?  IPads will do this in portrait mode and not landcape, I may have that backwards.

you are correct. if i re-orient to landscape mode, i can see it clearly with polarized shades.

  2. This is my biggest complaint as well,  due to random migraines I wear sunglasses about 90% of the time when its sunny outside and I can hardly see the screen when wearing sunglasses, no issues with my n5, one max, m7 or evo lte.  I wonder who manufactures these screens and I wonder if they have more than one supplier for their screens, I hope they do.  Overall I do think the screen is more vibrant and better looking than the one on the m7 but this is a major issue for me as well.

Edit:  Turned out to be a rogue screen protector, if you have a screen protector on try changing it out.

i dont have a screen protector on mine, and its very difficult to see whats on the screen with polaraized shades on. non-polarized shades dont have that problem.

  3. A very big THANK YOU to themuffinman :tu:  I downloaded and use the Helium app and was able to transfer all data from our EVO LTE phones to the new HTC ONE M8.  The application worked so well I purchased the pro key to help out the author.  And we all know when the wife is Happy everybody is happy.

same here. i did exactly the same thing. it saved me hours of work by not having to re-configure apps back to the way i had them. bought the pro version. i wish i had this when i upgraded my wifes phone. it took me hours to get all her apps back on and the way she wanted them, and then sprint re-provisioned the phone for some reason, and i had to do it again. this app would have saved me HOURS!

  4. Does anybody know if Sprint and/or Samsung have released the Spark GS4 to retailers like Best Buy and Amazon to replace the old GS4?  I'm finally upgrade eligible and both of these places have the GS4 on sale.

Also, between the Nexus 5 and GS4T, which one has a better LTE signal on average?

    J.

i am due for an upgrade as well and would like to know if best buy is carrying it, as it is on sale. The part number does not show that it is the 720t. That doesnt mean that it is not there, but the part number says that it isnt.

  5. Thanks, glad to hear it!  Colorized icons are on the list of things I would like to add at some point.  There's an active discussion thread here just for the app, so if you have any more questions, toss them over there: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/3060-signalcheck-android-app-to-monitor-your-2g3g4g-lte-signal-strengths/

  6. Hey thanks AJ! I should print that post out and put it on my fridge so my fiancé can see a glimpse of my lofty status in the wireless dork world.. :) I have a new time-wasting game, I search my app on S4GRU and try to see who is talking about it. That's how I found this.. so cool.

Anyways.. yes, as everyone has said, these engineering screens are manufacturer-specific and contain many functions that are inaccessible to third-party developers such as the CM folks or myself. Many of them also have layers of security that block access to these functions even if you figure them out. It's frustrating because all the cool stuff is behind that door!

If anyone finds a way to read useful data from some of these routines, I will be more than happy to add it to the app if you want to share! Hmm, an idea...

    -Mike

any chance of getting color coded data names in the status bar for easy identification for us old folks? like green for lte, yellow for evdo and red for 1x? by the way, LOVE the app. i found it on a discussion here and bought it immediately.

  7. Still have an upgrade sitting on my account and the wife likes how this one looks. As for a built in battery, unless you are a power user I dont see the big deal. Micro SD is not a big deal if you have enough memory to begin with. 32gb should be way more than my wife (or me) would ever need.

for me, the micro SD is a convenience thing. its not tied to the phone, so it can be swapped into a new phone. i backup all my apps to it for quick restoral, etc. if the phone borks up, you just put it in the new phone. for me, more than once i have been installing my apps from the sd card on the phone while the paperwork was being completed. it was not really about how much storage was included.

i didnt really like the internal battery, but i have learned not to dislike it. someone else said it best. the builtin battery doesnt have to have a hump on it to make it fit.

  8. I'm not sure what's going on, but ever since this latest maintenance update, I can't get the LTE Scan Timer & BSR Max Timer settings to take updated settings (1 & 1) after heading into the ##3282# menu on edit mode. Once I commit the modifications and the phone restarts, they go right back to the 5 & 4. Is anyone else experiencing this? I've tried just changing the settings and backing out of the menus to no avail as well. :td:

mine has always held it. as long as you "commit changes".

  9. I think the signal threshold changed with the maintenance release. It won't connect or hold to a weaker signal like before.

after changing mine back to 1 and 1 on the timers, it seems to be connecting just as it did before. but i have always had mine set at that. it became much better with JB, but seems to be the same with the MR. i dont really have a comparison with the stock settings.

  10. i actually changed the settings within a day or two of installing the maintenance release. i had already noticed an increase in battery life with the maintenance release. but i have not noticed a decrease with my changes. if there is, its not enough for me to notice. i work inside a building where i have very low signal all day, so my battery is at about 55% by the end of the day(now). prior to the maintenance release, it was at around 30% with the same 1 and 1 settings.

  11. i noticed the LTE connection difference as well. i looked into the LTE scan timer and BSR Max timers and noticed they had changed after the maintenence release. i cant remember the values it set when JB was released, but i "think" they were higher with this maintenance release. i set mine back to 1 and 1, and have the same quick connect and long hold time as i did with the original JB release. my wife's takes longer to connect and disconnects easier. i have not changed her settings yet.

  12. I experienced the same problem. Contacted Sprint, only thing that would clear the problem completely was a factory reset, now the contact ringers don't work again, and checking updates for the contact assigment comes up with nothing...any suggestions??

Im not sure i would want to put it back. im considering the reset to get rid of the update, but it is such a pain to get everything back the way it was. i went 2 days without an issue, then bam. couldnt answer a call. then i couldnt call them back. reboot... crash report...

  13. i actually had the problem the same day, but i installed the patch in the morning. my wife had the problem the next afternoon after installing it the night before. i cant imagine why that update would case a problem, but its too much of a coincidence that it started happening right after the patch was installed.

you mentioned the 3g falling on its face. thats one of the symptoms i am having. the network signal info app normally would show data connectivity info on the screen like "wifi is connected", "upload/download", etc. at least a couple of times i have had the problem, that field is showing "unknown", even though the wifi is on. data isnt working at all at that point, and evidently voice is borked too.

do you know if this can be uninstalled? ill do without the personalized ringtones if i can actually make/receive calls.

  14. ever since applying the new update for the ringtone assignment, my wife and i have both been having issues on the phone. it does indeed fix the custom ringtones, but other strange things are starting to happen.

    1) wifi icon showing grayed out when in range and saying it is connected, continues to use 3g instead.

    2) unable to place phone calls, press call and nothing happens.

    3) no audio on either end when answering a call

    4) network signal info shows ehrpd, but shows data as "unknown"

#4 has been the case every time one of the others have happened.

a reboot fixes each one of them, and then sense asks to send a bug report.

has anyone else had these problems? we are both running stock evo lte devices.

is there way to uninstall that update?
