  1. I answered a call on my wife's EVO 4G LTE the other day and realized how bad the ear piece is on the Nexus 5. It was like going from listening to a mono AM radio to a stereo FM radio. Even if the Nexus is HD voice, it doesn't matter if it's using low grade components.

Coming from an EVO, I noticed the nexus 5 seemed to have poor audio quality on the ear piece until I started holding it differently. It seems far less forgiving than my EVO was.

  2. I haven't had any issues with data/voice roaming after installing the updates (beta or release) when enabling the settings I posted screen shots of.

  3. You might see the roaming indicator, but it's a glitch.. you are not actually roaming. I have seen it myself. I think it might have something to do with the fallback from LTE to 1xRTT happening a split second before the incoming call hits. The N5 might not be "realizing" what network it is on yet, for lack of a better word. As I mentioned before, the CDMA routines in the base Android code aren't entirely perfect for single-path devices like the N5. It appears that there are telephony functions where a constant 1X connection was expected (which was a fairly safe assumption until last fall).

This is spot on. My N5 indicates roaming any time I fall back from LTE to cdma1x 800 to receive the call, but it is not actually logged as roaming. I was in a sprint store today asking about this. It was kind of funny watching the guy fumble around trying to figure it out. First he tried telling me it's because the phone was set to global, then my prl was out of date, then needing an updated profile. Ultimately he caved in and admitted he didn't know why it was doing it and handed me the phone back.

  4. I wish I hadn't read this now I'm thinking of canceling my order until the spark update goes live. It was something I planned on waiting on but I just had poor willpower one day and ordered it. If it doesn't ship by the 24th I may cancel if the S5 looks good.

I don't think think the phones battery has anything to do with the delayed update. Using only greenify I'm managing 40-50 hours with light use and 15-20 with moderate use on a single charge. When I am at work I also drive all around the city/county so it's not like I'm sitting in ideal signal all the time either. I also have all the bands enabled, I don't think it makes a difference at all.

  5. Im guessing you mean their customers IDs since employees cant do Framily since there is no point.

I don't know. I had asked the rep that set me up. Later on when another customer came in and was speaking to the other guy, he yelled over asking how many she had in her framily and he offered to put the two people that came in on it. It wasn't a corporate store if that matters, but I thought it was a little weird.

  6. I may go to the Sprint store at the Town Center and see about switching to Framily and asking if they could pass my ID around. It is a busy store. I didn't even think about that possibility until Rocket brought it up. I appreciate the idea.

I tried that when I switched over but the reps were too busy pimping their own Framily ID to give out mine.

  7. I recall reading that you need a windows 7 machine.

The email I got said the new RUU supports windows 8.

Thank you for your support on HTC EVO 4G LTE 4.3 + Sense 5MR update. Below is the link for the final software release that includes support on Win8. Please note the following as this is an RUU update (side load):

  8. I think I made mine angry. Followed the steps, but got a USB error when trying to install. I just have a black screen with silver HTC letters on the phone, and no input whatsoever seems to change it. Any suggestions?

Edit - Nevermind, I was able to recover it and try again.

Edit 2 - Every time I try to start the update process, my PC (win 8.1) says "the USB device is not recognized" and fails the install.

Do you have the drivers installed? I got mine by also installing HTC sync manager.

  9. Why would they not use that instead if it did the exact same thing?.....

Maybe its hidden on purpose because it's redundant and does nothing.

  10. Based on what some said, no.... Haven't given it a whirl fully yet.... Sprint might have the others configured somewhat differently as I haven't looked into it much detail here.

Maybe I'm completely missing something but what does that option provide that enabling domestic/international voice and data doesn't? That's never shown up in any EVO ROM I have loaded from HTC, it seems redundant.

  11. That's strange, because most people on XDA weren't seeing the Data Roaming option underneath 4G settings without XML edits.

I think most people on XDA might not know what they are doing. The setting is still there, exactly where it was with the previous public release and trial release.

  12. Well, I was updating and my cat knocked my phone off the desk and the USB cable fell out. Now all I get is a white screen with the green HTC logo on it - help!

When you launch the updater on your computer, within it is a link to the read me which has detailed instructions on how to recover. I can pull it up when I get home if you want.

  13. The interesting thing is that this rom intentionally disables data while roaming (you can edit some of the XML files to re-enable it). Is this the new path forward for Sprint?

I haven't had a chance to load it up yet, but the last few phones I've had (EVO, EVO LTE, nexus 5) all had domestic data roaming disabled by default and I had to manually enable it. Is it any different than that?

  14. I got an email with the final build in it ... Didn't download it yet

I got the same email, going to download and install it later tonight.

  15. The weird thing is my EVO would never connect to it. Even if it meant roaming. But every time my nexus makes a call while connected to PCS LTE, it falls back to 800. Not sure what's up with that. I haven't had the chance to test incoming calls to see if it's the same. For the longest time I thought the exclusionary zone around Syracuse didn't matter when it came to ibez and 800 restrictions. Makes me wonder how long its been broadcasting here for.

  16. I have noticed though - got mine last Thursday - when you have a good LTE signal, it's actually faster than my phone. The Speedtest down below is actually from my Tab 3. Did I just get lucky with the test or have others noticed this too?

I don't bother with speed tests on mine as I'm on the 25MB plan but my tab 3 has decent LTE reception according to signal check. Almost as good as my nexus 5 on .17 baseband, and a lot better than my EVO.

  17. Okay, Can't sprint redo the antennas on the towers and run all the lines while waiting for back haul? Then once the back haul is done connect everything? I mean, why wait for back haul, get what you can done. I mean EVERYTHING! Put up the 800/1900/2500 and start MV like Robert suggested since there is "time". That way once the back haul is in there is no more wait.

They are already doing this on full build sites. Almost every site in my city is completed hardware wise and is just waiting on back haul. In fact most of my market is in the same situation. Alternative back haul such as microwave in the mean time would be nice, but how much would that cost?

  18. Yesterday I went to take a call, signal check was reporting I was on 1xrtt 800 but the phone status bar said roaming. Anyone else notice this? I haven't been able to duplicate it, I didn't even think Syracuse had any 800 deployed. I'll be back on that side of town later today to try again.

  19. I'm not sure if this is new or not. I reactivated my nexus 5 a couple days ago and powered my EVO off. In the morning, it turned it self on in airplane mode to play the alarm that was still set for 7am. After dismissing the alarm, a box came up asking if I wanted to power it off.

  20. If you actually want in on the trial make sure you email him. Some one else will send you the link from HTCs file sharing tool. You will be required to activate an account for it and your email address gets set up as your log in name.
