  1. At home in my basement where my office area is, the G2 will hang on to LTE around -130 and I get 2-3 Mbps down, 1-2 up with ping in the 100-150ms range. If it gets much lower it will drop to evdo. Band 4 is available here, but I don't know what the channel size is. I've only seen two reports of it from LTE discovery in the log. I didn't mean the wider channel makes for a stronger signal, just that the signal will be usable and the phone holds on to it at lower signal levels. I don't even know if that's true, it just seems that way from my experience. It could be some other factor which is what I was asking about.

  2.

And the claim that wider LTE carrier bandwidths are more efficient is oft spoken but unproven. Back it up with evidence. Otherwise, it is mainly there to stimulate the peak speed e-penis.

I've read on here a few times that wider LTE carriers provide better performance at the outer edges of coverage. Is that not the case, and the better question to ask is what does that even mean? I thought it meant the wider LTE carrier will provide more usability at lower signal levels, ie further away from the tower or with more obstructions.

An example would be the VZW LG G2 I was issued for work. LTE on that device seems to work at much lower signal levels, -130 to -135. Where as when my Nexus 5 on Sprint reaches around -125 and LTE becomes mostly unusable and it switches back to evdo. Is that a characteristic of the wider 10mhz FDD carrier VZW has deployed vs 5mhz, or the frequency 700 vs 1900, or something else all together?

  3. What exactly is the Sprint connection optimizer doing? Ever since my switch to Android, I've tried to figure this out.

On my evo LTE it would manage turning Wi-Fi on and off, as well as LTE when I was in areas it remembered I had signal. It worked pretty well for me, sometimes I wish I had it on my nexus. I wonder if it can differentiate different LTE bands and remember where you can connect to what.
  4. Do anyone know if you are on Wifi call, will it hand it over to a tower if you leave Wifi signal? If it does not I think I might see a problem with Comcast new public Wifi policy they have.

It does not hand off calls to the macro network. If you leave your WiFi coverage it will drop.
  5. Is your Galaxy Tab stock? I haven't found what may be the problem yet, but now I am particularly curious because I just noticed that one of my reviews from early this month was made from a Galaxy Tab.

Yes, stock. Android 4.4.2 with Samsung software version T217SVPUBNE7.
  6. Thanks glad you like it!

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of any particular incompatibilities with the GT3, but now that you mention it I think I recall that we had an issue sometime ago with the Nexus 7 because the tablet didn't support the stock android tabs we were using (seriously). I thought we resolved it at the time but it may have popped up again-- I'll have a look into it and see if its a simple fix or not.

Google play won't let me install it on the tablet, it says your device isn't compatible with this version. I haven't had a chance to see if I can side load it or not.
  7. Im not sure about the plans because i haven't sold one. When i was using it i used mircast so i was using my phones data. You only use its data bucket when streaming from apps directly on the live pro or when using hotspot.

That's great to hear, I would probably use it several times a week just at home on WiFi alone. The price is kind of steep but I'm already in the market for a hotspot. I've had the $10 1GB add on plan for my phone, and while it works just fine I would much rather have a dedicated device. Using the tether plan seems to kill my nexus 5s battery pretty quickly and no svdo/svlte kind of limits me when I need it for work.

The fact it can also charge my phone is another huge plus. I work out of a delivery truck and between my GPS and cordless tool battery chargers I have no other way to charge anything.

If it does indeed work with the 3GB plan, I'll probably be walking out of the store with one in hand as soon as they have it in stock. It would essentially only be $25 more a month since it would let me get rid of my tethering plan.

Also, not sure if you can answer this or not. Is there any reason to get one of these on easy pay? Last I saw, signing up for a mobile broadband plan required a two year agreement regardless which makes the subsidy way better.

  8. Thats crazy about them not coming in til next week, my store got a some the first week of july.

My impression is that its bad ass, i never thought id have a use but after spending my lunch watching netflix on the wall of our breakroom instead of my phones screen changed that.

My problem is price at $100-150 id be a buyer and put it on am employee $20/20gb plan. At $300 im just not personally interested.

When streaming with it, do you need to use its own data plan or can you stream from the phone or WiFi (as in using the projector part with my home broadband connection)? The more I read about and think about it, the more I want one. Usually if I'm buying a device directly from Sprint I try to go through my local retail store since they usually help me out and I think they deserve the business, but I may have to cheat on my rep and buy one online. Also, do you know for sure if all three of the broadband plans work with it or only the 6/12GB as shows online? I may end up going with the higher plans anyway if the only way to play Netflix is via its own data plan.
  9. The M8 should not be receiving 55019 at all, it is not the correct PRL for a tri-band LTE device. The network for some reason is sending you the incorrect PRL at some times. Do you switch back and forth between phones at all? If not, I'd suggest calling into care and having them file a ticket for an incorrect PRL being sent to your device. This is handled on a network scale, and the system may be getting confused by something, others may be having the same issues.

My nexus 5 has been on that series of prl for as long as I can remember having it. What should be loaded on it?
  10. I went back into the store today to see if they got the livepro yet. They told me it should be in around the 27th. I also asked about which plans are available for it and was told any of the plans including the 3GB for $34.99 should work on it. I mentioned the website only showed the 6GB and 12GB plans and was told it probably only shows them because they expect people to stream video and it would eat through the 3GB quickly. Has anyone been able to get one with the 3GB plan?

  11. So we've all got 1x800 now on almost all of the full build sites, finally!

The Binghamton market is still having issues with eCSFB, regrettably. I opened up a ticket yesterday with Sprint's technical line, hoping the engineers look into it and actually find something wrong.

Any eCSFB issues in Syracuse or Albany? Or do triband devices place and receive calls just fine up there?

As far as LTE800, I've gotta assume it's just a matter of time for us now that 800 voice is accepted. :-) And hopefully the GMO sites will be knocked out by the end of the year along our connecting highways.

I haven't had any eCSFB issues in Syracuse since March that I've noticed. I haven't been running the test radio on my nexus for a while so I can't be sure, I do randomly get kicked to 3G all over the city though. I didn't notice how bad it was until I started bringing my tablet and left signal check LTE notifications on. I'm wondering what's causing the hand off problems.

  12. So far it's looking like a fluke, I've had it with me at work today going all over the city and scp doesn't even register on the battery use screen. I'll look at it later tonight at home after its been connected to my airave for a while. I only posted in case there was some setting I might have had on and didn't realize. When the site logger/GPS feature came out I turned it on and didn't realize how large a drain it was. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything since it normally sits in airplane mode with only WiFi 95% of the time.

  13. How long had your device been booted for when you took that screenshot? Did you leave SignalCheck on the screen for a long time? Did you have poor signal or was it constantly switching sites? Nothing in the app forces the phone to stay awake when its in the background, so 9 hours of keep-awake time hints that it was on-screen for that much time.

All of the reported battery issues I have investigated have turned out to be fluke/random/one-time blips, or related to something else. The app doesn't do much except listen for signal changes, especially if you had logging and location disabled. I intentionally don't have it poll for any information at specific intervals or anything like that to minimize battery impact. If your signal doesn't change, the app doesn't do a thing.

    -Mike

It had roughly 20-25 hours of uptime since last reboot. I had looked at signal check earlier but it wasn't pulled for more than a few minutes, it was minimized by pressing the home button. I was connected to my airave, so signal should have been fairly strong. I don't know if its related, but my nexus will connect to 1x on the airave and then bounce evdo around between it and the macro sites. I didn't really pay attention if it was doing that on the tablet or not, but I've never had it keep awake on my phone before.
  14. According to the Sprint web site, the minimum LivePro data plan is 6 GB/$49.99.  So besides the $18.75/month EasyPay, subs who now have a 3 GB/$34.99 plan would have to shell out another $15/month forever.  As someone who already has a very good (but slightly heavier) data projector and a perfectly good Zing!, this puts the LivePro out of reach: extra $809 in the 1st 2 years.  IMO, very poor marketing decision by Sprint.

I went into a Sprint store yesterday, and while they didn't have it yet the manager told me the 3GB plan would work with it, even though the website is showing what you said. I wonder if it's an error.

  15. On the subject of recharging, I just ordered a 4000mah battery that UPS lost and amazon mis-shipped (I'm the proud new owner of a iphone 4 battery case), so now I'm off to best buy to buy another one. What is the optimal amount of amp output so I don't blow the battery out?

Current rating does not matter as long as it meets the minimum the phone needs. Voltage is what will cause stuff to go boom. Think of it this way, you can plug a tiny 12v test light into a car battery and nothing bad happens even though your battery can put out hundreds of amps. The phone's charging circuit works the same way, as long as the voltage is correct you could use any size battery you wanted.
  16. The lower Framily requirement's are nice, I hope that rolls out over the current Framily offering. I've had some interest in other people joining mine (currently at 3) but not until the rate gets lower. It would be a bit easier to recruit. The family share data plan seems odd, who would take 4 lines with 10GB when 4 lines with 20GB is the same price?

  17. After the 72786 my phone number is changed to 000-000-9576 and the MIN is 0000009576. I spent about an hour in a Sprint store. Before resorting to a factory reset, he tried a 72786 on an LG G2 and it ended up broken also. He thought it was a network problem because it also screwed up the G2. Does that sound reasonable? I also spent about an hour this evening on the phone with Sprint tech support. She was going to check the network and call me back, but I didn't get a call back.

I had to restore my nexus 5 after doing this. Being connected to WiFi didn't seem to help, but it didn't have self activation in settings.

  18. Does the expiring roaming contract apply only to area's previously serviced by alltel, or is it everywhere Sprint relies on VZW for roaming? I ask because huge areas of rural upstate/central New York are only serviced by Verizon and it would really suck to lose that roaming coverage.

  19. So over the past 36ish hours my n5 has been showing I'm on 3g, according to the icon and engineering screens. Yet signalcheck hasn't shown I am according to the status bar icon or the actual app itself. I have noticed that when I connect to 1x800 it'll show I'm connected to 3g but while on 1xrtt it won't. Is this signalcheck being odd or something else? Also the only new thing that has been installed on my phone was the 4.4.4 OTA whenever that was rolling out. Here an example image of what I mean.edehapyq.jpg

Are you trying to say, you are connected to evdo and signal check isn't displaying it? Because your signal check screenshot shows the same 3G connection that your phone's status bar is reporting. 1X is 3G.
