  1. Then why the hel do those settings exist :/

It was taking my phone up to 5 seconds to open text messaging. Now it's instant!

Because that's the "modern" artistic way. Pretty is preferred over functional. The design people have way too much influence these days and they're wrecking most of the things they touch.

  2. If you want it, do the factory reset, it should happen.

If I have to do a reset to get it, I don't care if I ever get it.

I'll report if it ever downloads without doing a factory reset.

I have a tough time believing that is a prerequisite.  There are no other reports of that necessity.

I think the timing was just a coincidence.

  3. Any other news of lollipop? It's no longer on the Sprint support page, and I can't find any updated information on a new eta.

Last I heard it got pulled with a new target date of mid-late June.  Still no idea what the problem was.  Still haven't heard of anyone that actually got it for any length of time.  I'm beginning to wonder if they ever really did release it or if the whole thing was a data entry error.

  4. Hey I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. We got a replacement for my boyfriends s4t for assurance about 2 months ago. Well a couple of times we have noticed his phone will have no service at all while mine is just fine. Good signal and everything, well this weekend we went to a place where we roam well we finally noticed the problem his phone WILL NOT roam at all. With all the settings for roaming being right. So once it hits a poor sprint spot it will end up with no service and get stuck like that until we almost right next to a sprint tower. I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this problem before I call sprint about it.

Update the prl. (Preferred roaming list)

Another thing to try is to shut off roaming, restart the phone, toggle roaming back on, and restart the phone again.

  5. I can't say that I'm in such a hurry to get it if they broke silent / vibrating notifications.

We'll see some version of 5.0 first - LONG before we see 5.1 - if ever.

I swear, they should spend more time FIXING stuff instead of breaking things.

Google maps PC and PHONE and KML's on Earth mobile are all prime examples.

Put the smart people back in charge of interface and design.

The chimps they have in there now are annoying and breaking EVERYTHING.

  6. Anyone receive the update yet. Interested in how it's working and are their any bugs.

Guarantee there will be bugs. Firmware and prl updates are being denied so that indicates either traffic or server reserves.

Put your phone in wifi and on charge overnight. It should download sometime in the next few weeks.

  7. There is no typical, depends on tower height, downtilt on the antenna, operating power, obstructions, etc.

All things being equal, in my experience, obstructions is one of the biggest factors. I'm far enough out in the boonies that my prime towers are all high boomers. Effective distance works out on a boomer to roughly 6mi, 8mi, 10mi line of sight outdoors.

  8. No, working on the premier status. I can see the nearby tower from my balcony. About a quarter mile away between Metropolitan Parkway and I-94. I'm getting between -103 to - 117 dbm on B41 so I'm assuming it's coming from there.

Should be higher than that if you're line of sight and 1/4 mile. On a set of new Samsung towers in SE Omaha, I get 99-103 outdoors line of sight at up to 6 miles. Indoor and one exterior wall and I drop to 105-115 and periodic signal loss at those distances.

For one that I'm centered on between sectors, I struggle to get those numbers at a mile.

Fairly sure two of the three are not at full power yet, maybe even the third.

  9. Off topic but my S4 has been jumping from B25 to B41 constantly while at home. Signs of a nearby tower getting optimized?

Possible. Go outside and see if you can use the house as blocking interference to determine a direction you get a stable signal from.

  10.

Google wants it but set a precedent by letting carriers tweak their os from the beginning. Such a shame, only Google, Apple, and Microsoft care about their os, carriers just want to sell new phones.

The line is that the carriers want their customers to be happy by keeping some control over the process but the result rarely works out in the USA.

  11. Fair warning well ahead of time, but if the first Lollipop release for the S4 is 5.0.x, I wouldn't be rushing to update right out of the gate based on pre-5.1 experiences on several different devices (tablet and phone alike)....my only Lollipop experiences thus far are with a 2012 model Nexus 7 tablet but much of what I've read as it relates to other devices having gotten a 5.0.x upgrade from KitKat seems to have alot of similar performance/possible memory leak issue themes between them.

Might easily explain the delay. It's possible someone said "screw that noise", scrapped the 5.0 progress and started over on 5.1

  12. Very true. Thought Samsung would go the Apple route and atleast update the last 2 flagships. Iphone 5 still supports ios8 and wouldn't be surprised if it got ios9.

Samsung isn't all of the problem. Sprint has to take some of the blame. If it was all on Samsung, you could download direct from the Samsung site. Have you ever been able to download a stock Sprint update direct from Samsung or Motorola?

  13. ...and 4.4.4 was *supposed* to release in November.  Here it is 5 months later and no update for 4.4.4, no update for 5.anything.

I'm not going to get too excited about an update until there is more than an rdf.

If every revision to 5 means they stop and start over again, then we'll *never* see an update.

Not that it seems to matter.  The only nice thing would be to see a massive reduction in bloatware and more *user* control of the phone instead of Google control.
