  1. I have a question for you all, and was wondering if any of you experienced this before. I have a flagship S4 I upgraded to in Jan of this year. From then until now, my phone has been making phone calls to random people I don't know, and never called. For example, lets say the first 3 digits of my phone number is 666. What I've been noticing, I'd see missed calls from people I that also has these first same 3 digits. I'd call back saying "I missed your call" if the person answers and doesn't leave a voice mail. That person would say, "I never called you, but you called me." Again, I never called anyone. I had an S3 before, and it did the same thing every once in a while, but not as much as the S4.

Is this a moblie network thing? I called Sprint about this back in March, and a rep told me it may be an identity theft thing, and/or telemarketers having my number, and I should change my phone number if it continues. Any thoughts, and suggestions on what to do will be greatly aprreciated!

I'd suspect a malware application before suspecting the network. Especially if it followed the phone swap. What searches have you done so far?

  2. Read the article on the hidden / engineering screens in my signature line.  (You'll need the pc site to see that signature - it is stripped in tapatalk) The LTE engineering screen tells you explicitly what band you are receiving for Band 25/26.

Band 26 and 41 are the extended "spark" bands.

In signal check pro, it is listed on the "provider" section of the LTE block.

"Sprint B26" for band 26.  Plain "Sprint" for band 25.  If you add a note for the sector, you will also get corresponding sector ID's that have different series between B25 and B26

I haven't seen band 41 yet so I don't know how those will display.

As for the donations, that is what keeps the site running.  If you're getting anything useful at all, (like this information - hint - hint) you should at least try the $20 and see how the sponsor section looks.  Then once you see how useful that is, realize how much more detailed the data is in Premier.

There are a lot of people that gather (and enter / maintain) a lot of information about these towers and spend a lot of effort beyond even the donations to post info for the rest.

If you see sensorly tracks out in the boonies, those are likely (premier) sponsors out wandering the back roads mapping which towers have gone online, their sector numbers, and frequency bands.  The same thing goes on in the cities -but they aren't as obvious because of the higher density of users there.

  3. I bought a S4 Triband seven weeks ago. Rooted, with Jelly Bean stock (other than the root), MK5 firmware. Very happy with the device, the increased screen resolution over my Galaxy S2 is great.

I have SignalCheck Pro installed. So far I've seen no Spark activity in Louisville KY, but I live not far from my job and I get out and about less then average when I'm not working.

Unfortunately for me regular LTE is almost a dead zone at my work, and they cut off the wi-fi two years ago (too many people abusing it, phones out on the production floor instead of break time only).

I am wondering if the sponsor section has noted any Spark activity in Louisville, or if the sponsor section has any expected time line for Spark in Louisville?

I am not asking for the specific info for free! I just don't want to pay to be a sponsor, only to then find out the info I seek is not to be found. So what I am asking, has there been any Louisville Spark testing (just yes or no, not asking for specifics as the where in Louisville), and if not, is there any specific time line info for Louisville Spark (just yes or no, not asking to be told when)?

If the answer to either question is “yes”, I'd be willing to become a sponsor (regular, not Premier).

    Visit www.sensorly.com

Sponsor gets location details on that baseline 4g data.

Details about spark B26/B41 you can only get at premier level.

Budget 20 a week and you'll be there soon enough.

  4. How is the radio on the S4? Deciding between the S4, Nexus 5, and LG G2 for a new phone. Signal is important since I live in a rural area!

A lot of the rural tracks off interstate between Omaha and Lincoln and central iowa, north and east of Des Moines are laid down by mine. Audubon, Carroll, Fort Dodge, Webster City are all towers I mapped last weekend.

  5. I've had two oddities in the two days I've had this phone, want to see if anyone else has seen these...

    1. Twice on Saturday, I would get or make a call, then my phone had no audio input or output. I would make a call and the other party could not hear me and I could not hear them. Both times a reboot fixed the issue and it has not occurred since.

    2. SMS goes through very randomly. I'll have very simple texts that will sit and clock for an hour before going through. I currently have an SMS to my wife that has been sitting for 10 minutes and this is after I deleted the first attempt that tried for 5 mins. I had a MMS that took 5 hrs to send yesterday

I'm in a fully upgraded/integrated NV1.0 area with new Samsung eCSFB (from a motorola/nortel mix) with a very strong -75 ish LTE signal.

Haven't seen any audio issues. Have seen text issues but that's network problems, not phone problems.

  6. The network is supposed to be smart enough to optimize the connection.

It wants you to get to your information as quickly as possible so it can shed you back off the data stream and service the next user.  It's supposed to be constantly rebalancing everything to serve as many people as it can.

The problem comes when users just pull data that they don't need or pull data just because they can.  Then the system hits saturation and no one can do much of anything.  A few thousand users trying to stream out of a packed stadium would be a fine example.

Everyone periodically looking for score refreshes might be possible to service - as the data hops from user to user like bees on flowers versus a bear sitting in the flower bed.

  7. I realize that the middle of the thread is a horrible place for this to be hidden, but it can be hot linked to on the web version and probably via tapatalk someplace.  I'll update it as I find more information.  I found that I cannot edit it after a certain amount of time so I have to post updates / revisions later in the thread.

**caution** access and use of these screens is at your own risk.

Study hard before throwing random setting switches.  They are hidden for a reason.

You should NOT have to hit "dial".  Tapping the final "#" of the trigger should take you to the screen.  If it doesn't, re-check what you entered for errors.

Signal check (pro only?) now records a database in the background that can be exported and retrieved from the phone.  It also retrieves the B25/B26 hex as well.  Both are useful for submitting data on new discoveries for the maps and spreadsheets.

If you have any additions or updates, let me know and I'll update this post.

-Thanks to all who helped me get this far.

  8. Yea I'm aware of that. I have the G2 so I'm just explaining to her about the ecsfb issues. They are deploying B26 here and she already had her first taste of being kicked from lte. Is there a code to get the msl without having to call Sprint. I know the G2 pre KK did.

There's an app to retrieve your msl. Find one of my pc posts - it's in that signature with the hidden screens article or scroll back through these posts until you find it.

  9. Looks like it's been awhile since anyone posted in this thread, but just wanted to pop in and throw my hat into the ring. Due to a dropped phone/smashed screen mishap last week with my Photon Q, I upgraded to a new triband GS4. So far I like it, taking alot of getting used to not having a physical keyboard any longer, but SwiftKey is helping in that regard to some degree. Definitely enjoying the improved performance and not hitting 90% on memory usage. I did run into an LTE bug once early on but the 72786 trick fixed it thanks to the thread here.

Did you make sure to get the tri-band version? Spark, sph-l720t

  10. I tried to get it working from scratch. I had nothing installed after the factory reset when I tried it this time and it still didn't work. There has to be something else going on other than app incompatibility.

Is there a means to undo and re-do the install? If the app or something else interferes with the install, how do you redo that? As a protected system app, it doesn't seem like a simple process like you would follow with a normal app. Does one of those resets undo the install or is it protected in its flawed form?

  11. Tried this earlier today. In fact, I did it twice. Still couldn't get it to work. It seems I'm not the only one having a problem either. There's others on the sprint forums having the same issues. Hopefully a fix will come soon.

While they're waiting, they ought to generate a list of apps common to all those phones and compare it to lists of apps on good phones. I suspect that will yield the answer.
