Being in a town of less than 5000 people, most who don't use sprint because they think it still sucks, I'm not seeing any slow down on 25/26 and 25 has been deployed here for 2 years. I still have 15mb downloads on 25 after 2 years of it being here. There are only 3 towers in a 25 mile radius around me, we aren't talking a large suburb here
I grew up in rural WV (not as rural now and in Shentel's market!) and I agree that 25/26 is more than sufficient for a town of 5000 where maybe Sprint has 10-25% of the market. This is what Shentel is thinking according to their last earning call...B41 for the areas that need it but dual B25's + a B26 should be sufficient until the market grows.

Looks like Mr.Son is getting more involved with the company.
I read that article too. The last paragraph made me think that even though market analysts can be easily biased (thinking of the 2008 recession) they were confident that Sprint and Softbank could pull off an 18 to 24 month phased deployment of their densification plan at $5 billion.
Thats a lot of money to spend in under 2 years!

While I'm planning to put together an official thread with an up to date first post about this auction, here's some news today:
- Trip
Wow. Looks like this auction may actually happen.

I've called a few times in the past few weeks and the Cs reps all have a strong Phillipino accent. All very nice and easy to understand but likely not a us based call center.

The Tempest, Act 2, Scene I
"(And by that destiny) to perform an act, Whereof what's past is prologue; what to come, In yours and my discharge."
I'm hoping this isn't true, but you know everyone else is thinking this.

I like the accelerated timeline point!
I hope 18 to 24 months is enough time though - that fiercewireless article mentioned Sprint was still in RFP process. Knowing how long it took to work on just 1 tower in NV, I'm not sure Sprint can add ~20k sites to its network in 2 years.

So, zero talk of other wireless companies and how they operate in the Chicagoland area? Nobody was bashing anyone, and the discussion was/is leading to a constructive discussion.
I think it is the lou99 effect. Topics get permenently derailed when discussing other networks to the point where there is no hope of getting back on topic.
If we can keep it constructive then there is a place to discuss other networks, otherwise it will turn off people who come to the site for Sprint discussion.
-
Yes, others have noticed the decline in activity in The Forums. Unfortunately, the Sprint network has improved so much in most markets that users are now less interested in tracking Network Vision deployment.
I know I commet less because of lou99. I dont need snarky comments and grew tired of incessant posting of useless info.

I'm starting a new job in June, and they gave me a choice between a company-issued iPhone 6 or Galaxy S6, so I went with the S6 because I already own an iPhone.
This is my first foray into Android, and my first Samsung phone. Got any tips for a total n00b?
Opt for this mammajamma

No punctuation but you took the time to capitalize certain words...weird

The bids didn't come anywhere close to the reserve price because nobody wanted to do it.

This is why the Government HAS to be the entity to build the network out. It is the only party with the infrastructure and financial wherewithal to do something like this. The government isn't a corporation - despite what certain...NewsCorp...channels would lead you to believe.

Recording posted now...going to try to listen to it.
EDIT:
My notes on CFO conference speech...
Thanks for breaking that down for us!

A private Public Safety network is essential to national security and first response. Recall 9/11... Cellular networks were overwhelmed with ppl trying to call loved ones.
This is something I want my tax dollars spent on and I'm disappointed it hasn't already been built.

Question, do you dictate your posts or type all that?

They're still losing phone customers. Basically their MVNOs and tablet sales are keeping them growing. It was good to see their churn % fall below 2. Might mean the worst of the phone losses might be behind them. But if they do want to hold onto #3 they will need to get that turned positive.
Unless I read the newsroom report wrong I see total net postpaid additions 211,000 with 41,000 loss for total of 170,000 (postpaid) additions.
That's pretty good...actually damn good for what Sprint has gone through.

Jug-Jug, that's fantastic! *said like Troy McClure*
It will probably be GSM/WCDMA only in Canada. But that's OK.
I thought his name was Jub-Jub. something I learned not that long - Selma's pet lizard was Conan O'Brien's idea when he was a writer for The Simpsons.
Just FYI... back to reguarly scheduled discussion

This is interesting and actually pretty exciting. One question though. If our phones will auto-connect to Boingo wifi over WPA-2 connection is that secure enough to prevent hacking attempts?
I really like Google's auto-VPN over WiFi...is there a way to enable VPN automatically while on WiFi or will the WPA-2 encryption be enough?
The press releases also mention seamless cellular to WiFi...I assume that will be data only...right?

Oh i thought we were discussing sprint. My bad

AWS is 10x10 In Orland too, I'm here today and getting fantastic network performance.
Sprint doesn't have 10x10 AWS

does IP board have an ignore button?

And Sprint won in speed!!!

Thank you for that information. That is really helpful to know.
Just a practical question. What is the point of even allowing the reprioritization of the scanning order if it's going to scan all two or three bands anyways, and then park you where it wants?
Tell me about it...its like taking a crow bar to the olecranon process. Ouch!

iHeartMedia is trying to be more Spotify like with thier streaming app so they will likely remain competitive for the next 5-10 years.
What is everyone's thoughts on XM - I love the channel variety but the sound quality is no good. Going from FM to XM I have to turn up the volume by 10 just to hear the music. I had read that XM compresses thier bit rate whenever there is a lot of congestion...but no matter what time of day I think it sounds muffled...like listening to a 28kpbs sound file downloaded off Napster.

11 mb/s down is great!
I am on wifi at home and work and average less than a Gig/month but when wifi goes down I can consistently load webpages and maps with ease. I haven't had an HD call though...at least no calls on my log shows as being an HD call.
Got the sweep today! GO BUCS!

The All-ighty Ollar rules all! Who has the most Ollars? Verizon and ATT...ergo they would get all the mergers/acquisitions and low band spectrum they want!
