But what /u/newboyx is saying is that you can use Easy Pay on Everything Data.
a. was not the case two weeks ago, and he also said he's not sure it can be done in corporate stores.
b. he said that using Easy Pay with Everything Data causes the customer to overpay which is false.

Easy Pay will work on Framily, Unlimited My Way, and Everything Data. You don't get a discount on service for doing it on the old plans so it generally is a waste of money, but if you feel the need to overpay while complaining about the price of the new plans feel free.

the Framily Plan costs more than my Everything Data Plan unless I added about 3 more people to my account. in addition, the lower discount I'd receive drives the cost of Framily up even further. it costs more if I purchased a device using easy pay under Framily than under Everything Data. it's why there was no reason for me to switch.

Did you see the post a page back that said that Easy Pay should work now with almost any plan?
Also, this reminds me of the old posts when EVDO RevA (Power Vision) came out and everyone demanded it for free because they were already paying for PCS Vision.
and if that's the case, it's something that was changed very recently because it was absolutely not the case two weeks ago.
again, I fail to see how the second sentence had anything to do with the discussion as no one here is demanding anything for free.

Technically it's not a hardware issue, Toyota could tick a box, like they do for Scion. But it's a feature/benefit offered to those who pay for it.
Time Warner Cable could easily give me upgraded speeds, but if I fail to buy my own DOCSIS 3 modem, they will give me a DOCSIS 2, and charge me the same rate for lower speeds.
again, apples and oranges. easy pay does work with old plans, the system in stores prevents the reps from signing up new purchases (via easy pay) to old plans. this can be remedied by calling Sprint so I'm not seeing where the hardware limitation applies.

My point is why are you so tied to wanting Easy Pay with your old plans? This doesn't make any sense to me. If you want Easy Pay, just switch to the new plans.

So change your plan if you want Easy Pay.
If I want a navigation unit in my car, I have to buy up to the next model. I can't force Toyota to shove a nav unit into a CE model when it only comes in the LXE model.
not remotely comparable. one is a hardware issue, the other is a company choosing not to tick a box.

You can still upgrade your device without having to change your plan. However the only caveat is that you are tied to a 2 year contract. You have to upgrade at a Sprint corporate store but its still doable.

Why would you want to add Easy Pay to your old plans? The system is not setup to add Easy Pay to the Everything Data plans. If you want Easy Pay you will need to upgrade to My Way, Framily, Family Share Pack and this $60 individual plans.
Even when Tmobile announced the JUMP program, they required Tmobile customers to upgrade to the Simple Choice plan in order to take advantage of the JUMP program.
if you purchase a new device but wish to keep your old plan???? not that confusing is it?

by the way, I just spoke with a friend who works for Sprint and he told me that it's very possible existing customers would be able to get the $15 or $25 per month device fee as long as they hadn't recently purchased a discounted device (even if they had discounted device purchases on their account). that could potentially be a big game-changer so I'm trying to get confirmation on it.

I have to agree that this appears to be trolling. Because if there is something Sprint is known for it is keeping grandfathered plans forever. Ever heard of SERO?

please read my subsequent post which explains that Sprint corporate stores (at least in NYC) do not allow customers to purchase devices using Easy Pay and add them to old plans

Hum, that is one way of looking at it. I made my little spreadsheet after seeing how many people complained about the price. To me the biggest thing about these family plans is that the employer discount can be HUGE for some people. For me, I can have 2 lines with a total of 24 GB for only SEVENTY SEVEN ($77) DOLLARS! (I think I am convincing myself to pull the trigger).
However, I can definitely see that current subs can get a real stick in the ass when they see the calculated savings for new subs over a promotional period or for heavy data users on a Framily unlimited line looking at this as an inferior plan which is in some ways correct.
Many people here and on other Sprint user forums are on cheaper historic plans and see this as a price increase or see the family shared data as losing unlimited which is accurate and totally fine. I want Sprint to succeed but the real question is are these plans enough to help them succeed? I am leaning towards maybe right now and yes depending on how discounts to the individual plans are applied.
ostensibly all of these low cost plans we're now seeing from T-Mobile, Sprint and whomever else are based upon a combination of being a new customer and not reading the fine print. as you and I discussed last night, and as your spreadsheet illustrates, this is not something for existing subscribers. instead, if you're dealing with another carrier with a very low data cap, you can switch to Sprint with a higher data cap and lower monthly fee. in the case of T-Mobile, their rate doesn't include the monthly financing fee for the purchase of a device, which is something you basically cannot avoid if you're becoming a T-Mobile customer and buying a new phone.
my issue centers primarily on the folks arguing that this is a great deal for people who buy their phones outright. I would argue that is not who Sprint is targeting with these plans. if you're looking for cheap plans, you're not someone who's likely to have paid $650+ for a phone. you're looking for cheap plans because you're trying to cut costs wherever possible. that means you see $100 per month with a a good amount of monthly data and will come on-board. that Sprint waives the monthly device fee for the first year is definitely going to make this attractive for new customers who want to save money. but you're not getting your hair blown back by incremental savings for decent additional data if you're dropping $650 per phone with frequency. those people are obviously not the target of these promotions.

Sprint introduces a plan that is 25% cheaper than the competition and people still complain. Those are the people who will never be impressed.
that this plan is of no benefit to current customers is why some folks will "complain" about it. I don't think it's unfair that current customers would like to see something sweeten the pot for them to remain Sprint customers. as it stands, this Family Share Pack plan does not do that.

Considering how long people have had some REALLY damn old plans here I would guess you are fine for quite a while.
I ask this because I've noticed that in the stores, they will no longer allow you to use a grandfathered-in plan if you buy a device with Easy Pay. This can be undone by calling Sprint, but evidently the corporate store's system does not allow adding new devices purchased through Easy Pay to old plans.

so for those of us long time customers who have no reason to ever switch to something like the Family Share Pack, how long until Sprint stops allowing us to keep using grandfathered-in plans?

Balking at easy pay payments, when its essentially putting devices in hand for nothing, is lopsided.
pardon me but at no point did I "balk at easy pay payments." the information you quoted was provided in the context of a discussion about enumerating all monthly payments for which Sprint customers would be responsible.

thanks for your work on this. admittedly, I am a highly cynical Sprint customer but I think what they've been doing with their plans of late - both in terms of the nuts and bolts of the plans and terrible job they've done in presenting them to the public and Sprint employees - and how little regard they demonstrate for existing Sprint customers will likely have a lot of people looking elsewhere.

So the difficulty there is the listed pricing makes this wonky. If you get a device on Easy Pay you get the line fee waived above 20 GB.. If you get a "Discounted Phone" you pay 40 flat. I put it on there but remember with easy pay you do get those lines waived. I generally buy my phones so how much easy pay phones cost is a little beyond my knowledge.
I don't know how they'll actually work this out if you've got some devices on your account that weren't purchased at a discount (i.e. you bought them on ebay or wherever) and some that were purchased at a discount, but I'm virtually positive that the $15 per line per month fee is (a.) only applicable when using Easy Pay and (b.) is only waived for new customers. If you see something that suggests otherwise, please paste it. To be honest, I think they've done a fairly terrible job in presenting all the recent plans, though that may likely be because they really are only being aimed at new customers.
for the sake of completeness, I should also add that with this "Easy Pay" option, for any of the higher profile new phones, your monthly payment is going to be (on average) somewhere around $30 per month for 24 months.

Well, it would be $100 for data, and for 4 lines with subsidy it would add $160 per line for a total of $260. Sounds right to me. Maybe I should add that option to my spreadsheet actually.
yeah, should definitely add the $40 per line fee as I would think a great many customers probably bought their phones under discounted pricing and wouldn't realize that this new plan offering is of no benefit to them.
and really, given that existing customers are only entitled to 4 lines of service with the promotional price ($160/month for 20GB shared data and 4 devices purchased with "Sprint Easy Pay") this is going to prove to be a severely costly option, both in terms of price and sacrificed monthly data.

is it correct that this new Family Share Pack is really only a good option for new customers and existing customers who purchased their phones outright? under my grandfathered-in plan, I'm currently paying $210/month before discounts and taxes for 4 smartphones on my account with 1,500 shared minutes and unlimited data. by my estimate, if I were to switch to the Family Share Pack with 20GB of shared data, my monthly total before discounts and taxes would jump to $260/month. am I missing something?

At least you have the FREEDOM of paying off your phone and taking it to the carrier that offers the best network in your area without being tied to a 2 year contract
without getting into a network quality argument, you could pay the ETF whenever you want for basically the same amount (if not less) than you would if you had to buy a phone outright anyway

well at least you can pay for it partially a month with no interest this is where the industry is going.
oh yeah, you can finance, but it's going to negate any savings you'd have in selecting T-Mobile over Sprint, at least for the 2 years or so you'll be paying off those phones.

Well I'm taking the tmobile test drive, should get phone in a couple days. Will be interesting comparing tmobile.
definitely interested to hear your findings with this. one thing I can definitely say is that T-Mobile's pricing becomes a whole lot less appealing when you factor in having to pay full price for every phone on your account

not sure what you mean by this. while I understand your point that the payment is built in, even with the added fee of using easy pay, my monthly rate still comes out to less if I stay on Everything Shared than switching to Framily.
