  1. I'm going to smoke one inch thick boneless pork chops for dinner. Yum.

Got this bad boy at the Machine Shed in Des Moines, Iowa a few weeks back.

1+ pound of smoked porkchop, if I had to guess about 1.25 pounds.

They call it the Double Cut.

    Before.

  2. Oh, and I'm glad to see (AJ's slant aside) all the talk of pulled pork, I get tired of people who fixate on ribs when it comes to BBQ. Not saying I don't like ribs, but most of the time I'd take pulled pork regardless of the region its from over ribs.

At the obvious and blatant risk of taking AJ's tangent and making it even worse, I think the reason for that is that pulled pork gets you more bang-for-the-buck in terms of the (portion) size of the meat.

You can get ribs anywhere. It's not everywhere you can get good BBQ (pulled pork).

In South Cakalaky, pork is most certainly king, but we also love the chicken, beef, and of course the fixins too. Collards, corn, squash, rice and hash.

If anyone is ever passing through or near Columbia, you need to stop in Lil' Pigs BBQ at 4927 Alpine Rd Columbia.

    It's no frills good BBQ.

I prefer to make my own pulled pork in the smoker. but if i get back down south, i will try it out

What wood do you smoke your pork in? I use a charcoal smoker with mesquite lump and a combo of Jack Daniels and Tabasco white oak barrel chips. Best pulled pork ever!

BBQ. What you meant to say was BBQ.

Murphysboro, IL has 17th Street the only 3 time world champions of barbecue. The world championships are held in Memphis. That's a pretty killer BBQ city too. Everyone talks about KC and Texas, yet those places get glossed over when they more than hold their own.

Memphis BBQ is good too. Had some good stuff when I was in Nashville last year. Haven't had Carolina style yet. I hear their pulled pork is something special.

Not all Carolina BBQ is created equal. That crap up in NC is nothing compared to what we have going on in SC.

Pulled pork is known as BBQ here. Ask for a BBQ sandwich and you'll get a pulled pork sandwich. Ask for a pulled pork sandwich and they'll know you aren't a local.

And whatever you do. Get the Mustard based sauce. Vinegar and ketchup based sauces are too overbearing on the meat flavors.

    Should have bought the ONE.

I was really on the fence about the One vs the S4, but ultimately it came down to the S4 being newer (but the same price), so I figured if I decide to try the One in a few months it'll be cheaper than if I had gotten the One on contract and then the S4 at full price. It seems like this issue would be just as likely to affect both of them though.

The black One does look sleeker than any other phone I've seen though.

The hardware specs are so close the differences are negligible.

I've always rooted my phones so the stock UI that comes with the phones is irrelevant - although Sense 5 is much nicer than touchwiz.

It all comes down to build quality. HTC wins this easily. Aluminium v. Plastic. Pretty easy decision for me personally.

I have a rooted and s-Off'd EVO 3D and EVO 4G LTE with cases and accesories that I'd be willing to trade for the HTC ONE. I'm in Columbia SC, willing to drive to meet.

Both phones are working properly - can return both to 100% stock if need be. But only at the meet to trade and it's a sure thing.

Both phones for the single HTC ONE.

No offense but I don't see how anyone will be dumb enough to do an even trade like this.

Depends on what someone is looking for.

They may hate the phone and have an older one they like more, used their upgrade bought the phone for $200 and may want to earn back nearly double what they spent to buy it. I've seen it happen before.

  8. Just got a GS4 today, and it's my first android device. I created a google account, logged in, went to the store, and clicked to download various apps. They say "downloading" and remain that way forever. Checking my data usage I know the apps are all done downloading, but hours later it still says "downloading." I've tried restarting the S4, force stopping the play store and the play service, deleting and re-adding my google account, and pushing the apps through my pc.

Is there something obvious I'm missing here? I read to uninstall Google Play, but how exactly do I reinstall an app if I uninstall my device's installer? Other than that, I think I've tried every remedy I can find on the web short of a hard reset.

And I can make phone calls and search the internet just fine, so my phone is in fact activated.

    Should have bought the ONE.

Hmm. Guess they brought it back online at some point - unless I was connected to another Sprint tower in the area.

    I was at 4 bars + 3G at around 1030 am today.

I think you guys are at the wrong site. The tower is next to the little church. You have to turn by the Raceway and you will go under the interstate. The drive is next to a little church. The site has Fiber, and new RRU's, but the fiber is not hooked up. The cabinet has been replaced. It is transmitting 1900 1x and DO

Yeah, that's where I was. Down the dirt road where the churches parking lot meets the main road. I'm on a custom ROM sometimes it takes a while to display 1x and 3G correctly. Maybe I was only getting 1x - very real possibility.

  10. As I sit by the pool, kicked back in my lounge chair.....watching the waves on the surface of the water in the deep end flicker from the dim glow of the pool lights under the water. I look up above the tree tops to the Sprint tower that reflects on the surface of the water, and say to myself...man, this would be a perfect setting if..if my 3G wasn't so slow that my Pandora won't even stream out here!! Shaking my head....useless iPhone..... Frustrated tonight! Hope Charleston gets some LTE love soon!!

iPhones are useless in general - LTE wouldn't fix that. Hahaha.

Hmm. Well I did have up to 3 bars at times right next to it, but I was sure it was from a different site given that it varied wildly while sitting in one place. However, they may have very well got it online again.

Very possible I was in just the right spot to get a decent connection to the other tower. You seem to know a whole lot more about what you're talking about than I do.

I just noticed some fairly fresh tire tracks on the dirt road that leads in and the gate just next to the road was unlocked and partially open.

  12. Well, I used to work for sprint nextel and then ericsson, and I know the Ericsson guys well, and saw one of them at the monopole in the vista. They are in the process of upgrading all their small and old version cabinets to new Lucent 4.0 Cells that have extra capacity and can accept fiber backhaul. This is near completion. They have to test all the fiber and get it all installed from the site to the switch on Huger Street. They are moving fast. The new RRU's are popping up everywhere at these upgraded sites. Then they need to add the new channel cards that support LTE, and then they will bring up the LTE. I am "hopeful" they will have at least the core done by the end of the year..."hopeful" Don't quote me on it.

What do you mean by core? Does that mean downtown?

According to the maps in the sponsor section - there is a site out by 77 and 26 that they have marked as 4G accepted - rode out there earlier today and no LTE.

Do you know if there is a method to where they work? Densely populated areas first moving to the less dense next? Or where ever regulations (city/county/whatever) allow them to work? Or other factors based on logistical issues or opportunities?
