  1. I hate going through the Starbucks drive thru and it connects to their WiFi. Which we all know means your data stops working. Because you have to go in and accept their TOS before it works. So I'm always scrambling to turn off my WiFi while waiting for my Caramel Flan Latte.

I use this handy little app. Record the login of any network that requires some form of login information. Whether it's a username and password or just checking a box, this app will automate it all to run in the background once you connect to a network it recognizes.

Has a timed free trial, the paid version is definitely worth it.

  2. So I am not seeing any 800 on my HTC One in the areas of Columbia that are supposed to have 800. I am using Signal Check pro with the stock 4.4.2 ROM. Any ideas?

That's because the HTC One isn't able to operate on the 800mHz frequency. You'd need the HTC ONE MAX or the LG G2 - might be a few others now - to get the 800 signal.

Also, how are you on 4.4.2? Did Sprint roll out Kit Kat for us quietly? Or you on a custom ROM?

Edit: Sprint started the manual update to 4.4.2 process. Learn something new everyday.

  3. I know you didn't. I'd prefer to use bytes, myself. But since the world has accepted the industry's push to use bits, we would be the only one using bytes.

It pains me that my 100Mbps home internet is really just moving a file at 12.5 megabytes every second. If people really knew that their internet is moving about 1/8 the speed they think it is, they may demand more from their ISP's/wireless providers.

Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

That's exactly why they did it. All about the $$$$. They played off the fact that 99% of people don't know the difference between a "MB" and a "Mb".

All I know is I want Google Fiber. Columbia SC was actually in the running to get it for a the first couple months of Google's search for a city to start it in.

Also, I have a question for you Robert. On the tower I pulled the 23Mb down from, there are standard antennas in the Alpha and beta sectors, but the Gamma is different from the other two.

On the bottom rack, the one on the far side is the one in question. Can't see much of it, but can see just the bottom corner of it.

It's shorter and wider than other Sprint Antennas I've seen. I don't have a better picture of it, but can get one later today if it's unclear what I'm asking.

Any idea why that one could be different?

Thank you for all the hard work you put in, seriously. You're awesome.

Edit: I can't edit my posts from the tapatalk app any longer, would that be an issue from their end, or S4GRU's end? If it's on tapatalk's end I'll file a bug report with them.

  4. You are getting awesome speeds. 23Mbps! I just think that in measuring internet speeds, megabits per second is the standard. In measuring file download speed, we look at kilobytes per second or megabytes per second because we know how large the file we are downloading is.

It's about twice as fast as my internet at home. Ridiculous.

You can use Bytes over Bits for your personal use. But please don't post screen shots here in Bytes. It confuses people, because everyone else posts in bits. And it gives the impression that Sprint's speeds are slow, when in reality 23Mbps is a very good result on a 5MHz carrier. And I can tell you everyone who has ever posted here a screen shot from another provider did so using bits. Thanks.

As Robert asks, Robert shall receive.

Didn't mean to cause any confusion.

  5. Cleartalk? I'm gonna have to look them up never heard of them. I was hoping it was a Sprint tower. Sent from my LG G2 on the Now Network

    It's a prepaid provider - I.... Think...

On an unrelated note, the tower just off 378 in West Columbia across from the Jersey Mike's is now LTE live.

Not as fast as I'd expect, but faster than 3G. I mapped I-26 to Downtown on Sensorly this afternoon as well. Didn't get a gap in LTE even on my HTC ONE that is notorious for lack luster LTE reception.

  6. ViperOne Rom is supporting Sprint, last I checked a few days ago there were still some kinks getting worked out.

Wish viperboy had more time, I loved how he didn't release anything until it was 100% bug free.

  7. Well, my home is now in a spotty LTE area. Before the start of this upgrade, I had some issues, but now I have little or no data at home. If this is the case, I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB. I don't want to, but this upgrade has made the problem worst.

If your service takes a drastic turn for the worse, that means they're actively working on the tower closest to where you live.

All of the work won't happen in just a few days, depending on logistical availability, staffing and other factors - it can take a while.

There was a team that integrated a tower near my house almost 2 months ago. Checked with a crew working there yesterday and everything is ready for LTE to go live. For some reason, Sprint is still waiting to cut it on.

  8. Any Idea when they are going to Upgrade/Replace the old cabinet at Forest dr. and Beltline and on top of the V.A building down town on Assembly?

I'm not sure. Was in a rush and didn't have an opportunity to ask about other upgrades in the area.

They were there an hour or so ago, if anyone see's this and is able to drop by to see if they know anything I imagine they'd still be there.

If I had to guess though, these guys don't know where they'll be past a week from any given time.

  9. The tower at 378 and I-26 in West Columbia is fully upgraded and connected to fiber for LTE.

There's a tiger team there today fixing a port issue on one of the 1900 radios.

Tech said everything on the tower end indicates it's ready to start broadcasting LTE.

So, apparently Sprint is waiting the throw the switch on this tower for some reason....

  10. Spoke to an Ericsson Tech last night.  It seems for our Market, Most Fiber (Backhaul) is not ready. Therefore the sites that are running LTE are still running on T1 circuits. And Thats the reason why the LTE is typically 15dm less than DO and 1X coverage. Once the more capable backhaul is integrated, the power will be turned up on the LTE to match the existing site coverage.

That makes sense - when I was speaking with the testing crew at the site just up from my house there hadn't been any new fiber run to the site before them testing LTE radios and the like.

Saw a crew running some form of underground cable on Airport Blvd this morning.

Here's to hoping it's fiber and they're headed towards a tower.

walked out of my apartment in downtown cola today and noticed a surprise. The fastest test i ran was in the vista but i had lte down huger st., blossom, and gervais st!

Yep! Noticed this today as well. Mapped a little bit down Huger into West Cola and ran a speed test on sensorly in the Bates House parking lot before I headed to class. I'll be taking alternate routes the next couple days with mapping on so we can find out the extent of the coverage downtown.

  12. I haven't done this stuff in forever, will that wipe my data? If so I'm just going to say screw it for now and deal with the new versions of the google apps.

If you do it correctly, no it won't.

That means you have no recovery installed.

    Push recovery with fastboot.

  14. then that means it has not been reported as 3G or 4G or 800 updated yet. Am I still missing the point?

If they are not on the master list that shows all sites -- then it is a new site (but that is very very rare)....

From what iden was saying, there's a tower on Greystone Blvd that is 4G live that isn't currently marked on the map at all. Could be because Robert has not had a chance to update since it went live or somehow some towers are falling through the cracks.

There was tower just up the road from my house I had to post in the in progress thread to have it marked on the map.

I guess the question is, are all tower marked on the map in some way regardless of update status or do they just show up once they're at least have the 3G updates completed.

  15. He is the owner of this site. He does this for fun, not for you or me or money.

What do you mean by "so many sites are missing"? He updates the maps in the sponsor section several times a week -- and posts a summary of that in the markets section when he does so. There might be some live LTE sites around you that he doesn't know about yet or has a list that he hasn't posted yet... Or there might be some accepted sites on the map that haven't gone live yet, but what it really comes down to is his map gives you a good idea of where there is LTE or 800 etc -- but is by no means a definitive guide.

Sites are missing as in are in physical existence but not marked on the map in any way.

  16. I don't believe there is anything to download BUT I'm excited too. Time to rebase d3rpONE Rom and do some fun stuff! :tu:

    *Though I could be wrong.

Ready to have tweaks back for viperROM.

Held on porting those due to devs having full schedules and not wanting to port for 4.1 then again shortly after for 4.3.

  17. tower in Columbia SC by the Lake Murray Dam Definitely does not have 4g yet... it is showing yellow on the map.. Where are you getting the information from? Also, there are a bunch of sites missing in the core of Columbia SC. Are they ever going to be on this map?

I've asked this before and have gotten mixed answers...

Sometimes if a tower is marked 4G accepted doesn't necessarily mean 4G is live.

    Just what I've been told.

I've also wondered about the lack of towers in the downtown area.
