  1. When you first set up the google voice app you should choose the "skip" option for integration and that you will not use it to make any calls.  Then you can use google voice just like the sprint visual voice mail app while your texts and everything remain separate.  I think you can un-integrate it from the website on a PC.  I am not sure if that's what you are trying to accomplish but that's what I do.  Google voice is basically nothing more than a visual voicemail app for me while my texts continue to go to my texting app.

Hm, you shouldn't have to do that first.  I have not set up sprint's voicemail yet on this phone.  If I try calling the voicemail number (my number) she tries to walk me through setting it up.

When I first downloaded the app and ran it I chose skip, do not use to make calls.  Then a screen pops up and you have to call a number.  I just touch that number and it dials and makes a couple booping sounds.  Then in the voicemail settings in the phone (open the dialer>settings>call settings>voicemail) I had to change it from "My carrier" to "Google voice".  Then when I go back to voice it completes the setup.

That last part about changing it from "my carrier" to "google voice" might have been the issue.  Nothing guides you to do that really.

I don't know what happened, but I started over and it worked the 2nd time around. It is very possible that it was user error, but all is well now! Thanks for your help guys!

This is exactly what I was trying to do. I wonder if it didn't work for me initially because I didn't have my actual Sprint voicemail setup yet?

  3. Does your Sprint version from Best Buy come with Voicemail or any "bloatware"?  Just curious.

I wonder this as well, I bit the bullet and integrated my Google Voice so that I have voicemail without calling, but now it syncs up my texts as well. I was able to turn off notifications, but it still syncs and I can't figure out how to stop it from doing that. (I know I am knit picking, but it bugs me!)

  4. No simm removal tool huh, seems like Sprint wants to \make it hard for you to switch simms. I don't understand why anyone that knows that you can buy it from google play for 349/3999.00 would pay Sprint 449.00. 449.00 from Google play got me the same phone in 32g vs 16.....tha\t's enough to deter me from buying from Sprint....over paying and getting less for more equipment wise.

If you're going to stay with Sprint, you might as well get the phone for $200-$300 cheaper by renewing your contract or signing a new one. Cheap phone is the added bonus.

  5. How do you tell the difference between 1x voice and 1x data?

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Well since the Nexus 5 doesn't do voice/data simultaneously, whenever I am on a call it can only be voice that I am seeing in the 1x engineering screen. Unless I am looking at the completely wrong screen.

  6. does anyone have issues connecting at 1x800?  at my work i get a stronger 1x800 signal but the nex5 refuses to connect to it.

I am always 1x voice when going from LTE to making a phone call. I can always get 1x800 when I am going from 3G to making a phone call. I have had this issue since I got my Play Store device on 11/4.

  7. Is there a way to sync to the PC with this unit. SG3 had Kies!

I was wondering this too, I actually not yet connected my N5 to my PC.

    Kies?  You actually used that?

I used it all the time, especially when I wanted to flash back to stock and get rid of ANYTHING custom on my phone.

  8. Probably connecting to a recently upgraded 800Mhz 1x site that isn't operating correctly. Since it's an 800Mhz signal though, you could potentially be very far from this site compared to the LTE or 3G site, so it's much harder to pinpoint where it is.

Your best bet is to call into Care and have a rep mark your location in the Network Pinpoint tool as having audio quality issues there. All of the info from that tool is forwarded to the network teams every 15 minutes.

Thank you for your feedback, this is the best advice I have received yet. I will call and have them mark my home when I have a chance. Thanks again!

Ok, after testing it looks like it's my cable:

10:00 to 10:10 on Monoprice cable with LG charger, screen on: 41% to 42%
10:10 to 10:20 on Monoprice cable with LG charger, screen off: 42% to 47%

10:20 to 10:30 on LG cable with LG charger, screen on: 47% to 54%
10:30 to 10:40 on LG cable with LG charger, screen off: 54% to 64%

    Found the issue. :D

  10. When connected to 1x does it change the signal icon to 1x like on the nexus s 4g or stay 3g icon like the galaxy nexus?

No icon for me, just bars.

Slower is one thing, and I used to that. This is to the tune of 1% every 10 minutes.

Damn, thats slow, try without the screen on and see what happens. Are you using the supplied LG charger?

  11. For those who are getting good battery life, did you do anything different to optimize it? I just went into location services and noticed a setting was listed as "High Accuracy". I switched it to "Battery Saving" as i am getting terrible battery life. I have been off charger for around 2 hours and am at 89% with hardly any usage. I may do a factory reset tonight if this setting does not improve it.

I turned off about half of the sync's under my Google account. I have been unplugged for about 3 hours with moderate/heavy use and still have 85% battery life.

EDIT: I also have the screen brightness fairly low, but I am used to that.

  12. LTE doesn't go idle, it completely disconnects/shuts down.

It's amazing that it correctly displays LTE bars and then correctly displays voice bars.

So the phone is behaving correctly. This is happening to me and I was wonder what the hell was going on. People are complaining to me that my call quality is awful and I thought the voice priority was messed up. I'm trying to figure it out because the horrible call quality only happens on LTE when I make a phone call, it connects to 1x, when I am on eHRPD I am able to connect to 1x800. Very strange for me.

  13. As said before the Nexus 5 DOES NOT support SVDO / SVLTE and you will not get data while on a phone call.

I'm not trying to browse the internet, I am well aware after being told yesterday this. I'm concerned that my voice quality is because I'm constantly connecting to 1x not 800. Am I missing something? My voice quality does not suffer when I make a phone call from 3G, only when I'm going LTE to Voice.....

  14. These pictures are coming from LTE to a phone call.

I'm kind of leaning towards my voice connection priority is messed up. This is a bit over my head. How is that determined? I tried updating my profile, but it still did the same as above.
