    NEVERSTOP UPDATE

We launched Neverstop two months ago and the usage has blown our minds.

We couldn’t be more excited about your appetite to be online while on the go. But we were surprised to learn how many of you are also using it heavily at home. We've seen lots of you binge watch Netflix in HD all day, back up your hard drives over the internet, and even connect your Xboxes through ingenious means. It’s a glimpse of how the internet should be, and we love it… but it's putting a strain on the service and it’s not what the product is meant for today.

So, to make sure that Neverstop continues to work seamlessly for as many people as possible, we have to make some changes to the service. We began running tests to optimize the service, including lowering speeds. Our engineers are working hard to find the right balance of always accessible worry-free internet, at a fair price, so you'll likely see speeds change over the next few days while we try to fine-tune that balance.

We will continue to get you online so you can do what’s most important to you when on-the-go: things like email, streaming, and browsing. But, we need to reduce the extreme usage cases. If you find that Neverstop doesn’t fit your needs, use our mobile apps to switch to Refuel, or head here for a refund.

As we figure this out, we want to take into account what is most important to you as a Neverstop customer. To get your input, we put together a survey so you can help us improve Neverstop.

Ultimately our goal is that you never have to worry about getting online whether you’re at the office, home or the spaces in between. That’s Neverstop’s future. Today, we will make Neverstop the right solution for your on-the-go needs.

    Thanks,

    Steven van Wel

Just got this email from Karma today, speeds for me have been limited to half of the 5Mbps promised all day. Should be interesting to see where this leads. So much for "no catch unlimited".

  2. Thanks again for all the comments, especially re AWD vs FWD :) I think the awd will just come down to whats on the lots and what I can negotiate. The turbo forester seems really rare here (and it requires premium which affects the cost per mile), I called and no tester and a wait list for it, makes the lot of fwd highlanders over the road look attractive. I'm just going to grab a maui cruiser from someone leaving the island and bide my time until the right deal comes along. Plus I get to keep the bike for the crazy weather and its reliability.

The rumor for the pilot is it is getting an inch or two narrower and will get the mdx engine with a cvt for fwd which should make it fairly decent fuel wise, possibly best in class. The cx9 is also alledgedly getting redesigned this year although I have no idea what engine it will get, possibly they will buy in the toyota v6 as they have said no v6 skyactiv engine (maybe a 4 pot turbo or a large diesel?). It won't be fun filling it if things kick off with russia and gas goes up a few bucks a gallon.

Just a tip on the Forester from the son of a mechanic. While the Forester and other turbo vehicles like it (my Saab included) say that 90-93 octane fuel should be used, it's not required. Saab started with an EMS (engine management system) called Saab Trionic, to retard timing and modify other engine parameters so it can run on lower grade fuel without damage or detriment, other manufacturers soon followed. The only thing you'll lose is some engine performance. So the easiest thing to do with a Forester would be, daily drive and when gas is high use 87 octane, when you're going for a fun weekend drive, or prices are reasonable use 90-93. So, don't discount Forester just because of the gas, if you're looking for fun, or especially safety, both safety in driving dynamics and structure, it won't be beat. Much less by a Honda, Toyota, or Mazda. Either way good luck! :)

  3. I've always wanted an Axiom.  Quirky little rigs.  If they had a normal stereo, I would have bought one last year.  I'm quite an Isuzu fan.  I miss my 2001 VehiCross.  It also had the TOD system.

    Robert

My father always wanted to get a VehiCross, he still kicks himself to this day over not buying one. I just wish the Axiom had been an 04, first vehicle under $100,000K with Direct Injection. Does your Trooper have an LSD on the rear axle like the Axiom? Between Saab, Isuzu, and Suzuki, I've had high standards set for the vehicles that will replace them. Subaru seems to me to be the only thing that can live up IMHO.

  4. I have the Borg Warner TOD system.  Works great.  But you can disengage the auto system and put it into 4 LOW when necessary.  I have one of the last Troopers ever off the assembly line.  I will keep it until it blows up.

    Robert

I figured, it's been an amazing system in the 03 Axiom I have.

  5. Subarus and in particular Foresters are very popular here in the Black Hills.  I drive an Isuzu Trooper, because I need real off road capability about 3-4 times per year.  And that mandates more clearance and 4WD LOW for my usage.  Otherwise, I think the new Foresters are really sharp.

    Robert

Random off topic question, is your Trooper equipped with TOD (Torque on Demand)? Or was it one of the earlier models using the standard Isuzu 4X4 system?

  6. Go for the Forester. I doubt you'll find anything that makes you happier if you want great driving dynamics. Along with safety that can't be beat. Don't forget the EyeSight option if you're already planning on 2.0XT.

  7. Does anyone know if there is a SRA in and around the area of Paris TN? Sprint maps and devices show native coverage in the area, but all Sprint MVNOs show the town, and main route into town as roaming. I haven't been able to find anything, thought someone here might know.

Carolina West is a SRA with Sprint.

SRA or Strategic Roaming Alliance partners are telecommunication partners that Sprint has agreements with to build or mirror the Sprint CDMA network to provide service to customers in rural areas.
Sprint cannot sell in the SRA Markets.
All Sprint CDMA customers can enjoy all of the Sprint CDMA voice, text messaging, Ready Link and Vision/Power Vision services, while traveling in SRA territories using any Sprint CDMA device, PDA or Connection Card without roaming indicators.
Customers should have the latest PRL to acquire SRA territories.
Pricing - Sprint subscribers will not be charged for roaming in these areas. Usage is billed as on-network

  8. The bands are turned off now and then turned on via ota. G2 has 1900 enabled right now but other bands can be turn on by going into some secret dialer settings. The ota will do that for you.

"Hack the planet!" Or your phone in this case...

  9. That's what I figured.  I wonder what they mean by that?

About the Sprint Note III being single band LTE, in relation to the FCC? Is that your question? If so, it simply means that is the only LTE band the Sprint model supports. Both hardware and software wise. That won't change unless an updated Tri-Band version is released later on like may happen with the S4.

  10. Hardware, It never went through FCC certification for any LTE band other than 1900 PCS.

"In addition to the two smartphones coming Nov. 8, select smartphones also will be upgraded to Sprint Spark via an over-the-air update in the coming months."  Could this mean that the Note 3 might be updated to be able to use it?  Or is it a pure hardware thing?

  11. Yeah, that was the switch that made the difference, I'm just on generic "Everything Data 450" now. And as for BIS, it helped in staying way down on the data roaming limit.

BB10 doesn't use bis for which explains why you had to use the newer plans. But since unlimited data. What would be the reason anyway.

Wow, I can't believe I forgot about that, I read about that a few months ago.

Have you tried the ES X app? here are the details:

  12. Ok guys, I just got the phone today and here's what I've found. For starters my closest tower is almost exactly 1 mile from my home, and there are layers upon layers of trees and foliage in between. I get between -96 and -103dbm depending on where in the house I am, based on those #'s the Q10 holds about 3-4dbms higher signal strength than the Curve. The tower in Brunswick does actually have 4G broadcasting, the Q10 picked up the 4G right away with no restart or airplane mode on/off needed. Now keep in mind the measurements that I have are only from apps I was able to easily find in BB App world, how accurate they are in comparison to SpeedTest.net or Signal Check pro I don't know. When I was at the tower, the signal strength was at -73dbm, the speed tests were around 6800kbps per second (faster than my home DSL) and the app I found only measures DL. Speeds were great however and a Youtube video loaded immediately in HQ. As for the Q10, I'm still disappointed about it not supporting 800 SMR, but it's an amazing device. The build and keyboard surpasses even the 9900/30 and it's an incredibly fast and fluid device, if you're looking for the ultimate communication device, this is it. As for activating it, the website wanted me to upgrade to the new plans so I had to call in and activate. Ask any questions you can think of, and I'll try and get some better apps like SpeedTest and Signal Check sideloaded on here and get some more measurements.

  13. I'd say it would be because they the original plans for BB10 were to launch in October 2012, but there are devices that have 800 support that are older than that... Hell even the 9350 had 800 support. There wouldn't be anyway this could have been a complete oversight by the FCC is there?

  14. Ohhh I just noticed you said LTE site... As far as I know that would be the one in Brunswick, about 15 minutes away. However I still don't think it has any fiber running to it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. How far is the closest lte site to you? My wife's palm pixi is falling apart.
