  1. Jury is still out to saying anything concrete but my phone with the new radio is not as bad as the first night. In my area, they could have been doing some 2nd carrier software upgrades as I saw more of then the day after and things stabilized.

I went back to the first radio and I have not dropped to 3G in strong LTE areas since.  On the 6.0.1 radio, I got 3G a lot more often.  Not sure what the deal is but I'm satisfied with the older radio.

  2. A few new Rootmetrics reports out today.

This definitely reflects my experience in the Jacksonville market.  Things have slowed down!!!

    http://www.rootmetrics.com/us/rsr/jacksonville-fl/2015/2H

Sprint ranked 3rd in Chicago.  Definitely comparable with the other top carriers, though.

One of the first markets where I saw Verizon did the worst?!

  3. Flash the old radio, that's the beauty of a Nexus device :).

Just flashed the old radio.  It has CA and triband so I don't see much of a need to use the new one anyways.  Back to being on LTE 99% of the time. :D  This is definitely awesome considering my previous devices would soft-brick if you flashed out-dated radios.

  4. A lot of the points, I agree with. In some cases though, it's fair to single T-Mobile out, and in others, it's not fair to single T-Mobile out.

For example, T-Mobile boasts No Contract as one of their main selling points. But what happens if you cancel phone service? The final bill becomes due, including the cost of your device. To market it as something without a contract, when in theory, it is one is already shady enough. The way I believe it should be is the device stays being financed through T-Mobile, even if you cancel service. That way T-Mobile still gets their money, and the term 'No service contract' still is valid.

As for coverage maps. I think T-Mobile's is hella exaggerated, but all of the carriers do this, to an extent. But to be fair, the author of the article also put that in there.

Same with the shady 3 months of unlimited LTE data. It uses people's data stash first. No where, except in the fine print does it mention that. Even the banners do not have an asterisk.

  5. I'm starting to notice that sprint is winning a lot more reliability awards than last go around. If thy can get the upload together sprint will be golden in a lot of places.

I've also noticed ATT falling behind in a lot on markets. They seem to be really good on a market, or really bad.

  6. Why do the loyalty credits vary so much, $19, $15, $10?? When I got the $15 one last Nov (2014) they said (and was in writing) as long as you keep leasing a device, you'll keep the loyalty credit. I'm assuming that the credit amounts, and maybe the fine print have evolved with it over the year???

Be careful. According to Sprint care on Twitter, this is not the case.

EDIT: Just realized your initial question.  Bestbuy had a promo for $19 credit during a period of time and we took advantage of it on one line.  At the same time, Sprint's was $15/line through them.  Now I believe it's been bumped down to $10 credit per line.

  7. I dont mind freebies at face value. But the obfuscation it will cause towards competitive data pricing is awful. If all data were treated equally, we should see data buckets slowly grow larger and larger as time progresses. But with this garbage, I expect to see bucket pricing remain stagnant if not go backwards. Verizon will be the first to back what you can get for $100 down from 18GB to 10 GB with "as much Go90 as you can handle!"

Hell, that's already what T-Mobile is doing.  Reducing the data buckets of users to promote BingeOn.  (ie: 10GB to 6GB/line.)

  8. I will leave this one here.

The key here is this was done on Q1 commercial equipment.

Nokia Networks, together with SK Telecom, demonstrated 428 Mbps data transmission rates through the industry's first TD-LTE 3xCA with 256QAM, which utilized a Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem from Qualcomm.

From what I've been reading, Sprint's rolling out 3rd B41 carriers in Q1/Q2 next year and the X12 LTE modem from Qualcomm will be bundled with the Snapdragon 820.

  9. Yes. I seen the update posted earlier this week on Sprint's website for the G2 but there's no telling when it'll actually get pushed OTA.

Case in point the Moto X 2013 on Sprints website had the update to Android Lollipop 5.1 & Stagefright plus other enhancements posted mid November and yet the OTA push just started a day ago.

So who knows when ZVI will start to get pushed out.

btw I'm on Ver 5.0.2 on the G2 but don't have any Spark logos at all.

Can you post a screenshot?  I tot'd back to ZVE and took OTA to ZVG, then ZVH, then ZVI and they all have the walmart Spark icon in the status bar.

  10. Stupid phone. I just upgraded to 6.0.1 and now my sprint experience is bad again. This happened with the first Nexus 5 as well. I bought a strong performer and on the first update, it went to below average.

There is a possibility this is due to Sprint... Sprint in OC likes to go for a few months of crappiness and then a couple weeks of nirvana and then back to months of crappiness. Their network engineers here need to be the first ones to be shown the door.

I've noticed my LTE doesn't come back as often and I drop to 3G at home randomly. Not sure if it's my local site or not but I think you're right. I just took 6.0.1 update when it came out.

  11. No. I was responding to jamesbond007 in regards to the G4 not having received the Stagefright Patch.

The G2 is currently on Version ZVH ( Stagefright Patch).

●Thus far nothing officially pushed out on ZVI nor any information leading to what it is.

Supposedly the ZVI update was pushed 12/07. I just flashed it on my G2 so I'll let you know what differences I notice.

Edit: The Spark logo lives on.

  12. Oh well Papa John started it. In all seriousness though now we are starting to see people somewhat worry more about this. I guess you can say if one is doing it it's ok but we will be watching but If more start to do it it's going to become a problem.

I predicted this would happen.  I fully expect it to get worse once the FCC supports it.  Even if it's against net-neutrality, ISPs and carriers will have to follow or they'll lose customers.

  13. I'd rather they over exaggerate so that the coverage doesn't look as shitty next to Verizon's/Att's/T-Mobile in ads

Actually, I've seen Sprint exaggerate their coverage much more than they've under-exaggerate it.  At least, these are my findings in my area.  Sprint's LTE just does not reach as far as the maps say it does.  Especially Spark coverage.
