Softbank news: The Sharp Aquos Crystal is stunning and U.S. bound
WiWavelength replied to jonathanm1978's topic in Sharp
Ooh, Josh has a thing for Lumia Windows Phone? I am telling Apple on you. AJ -
The UHF channel 51 protected contour issue affects T-Mobile far greater than it does CCA members -- because channel 51 is operational mostly in large media markets where T-Mobile has native network but CCA members do not. In other words, as long as the band 12 economy of scale is sufficient for them, CCA members in rural areas can and are already using the Lower 700 MHz A block. AJ

Softbank news: The Sharp Aquos Crystal is stunning and U.S. bound

When I edited the article and added the ERP/EIRP figures, all of the CDMA2000 max figures are for EV-DO. And with this handset, the max power figures are almost universally 4 dB greater for EV-DO than for CDMA1X. Band class 1 CDMA1X 1900, for example, peaks at ~19 dBm. That is definitely on the low side. So, CDMA1X performance could be a bit of a liability. AJ -

Guys, please read our article on The Wall: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-372-teaser-that-aquos-crystal-is-sharp-take-the-edge-off/ We already identified the chipset as the MSM8926, which is a quad core Snapdragon 400. AJ -
I understand and sympathize with the rest of your point. I just do not have the time and energy to address it tonight. Besides, broadcast TV is a public good. Now, for the Lower 700 MHz A block, its usage is largely predicated on the 600 MHz auction -- since it will clear UHF channel 51, regardless. But as long as John Legere continues to be a slimy asshole, many of us will be happy the more difficult the auction becomes, the longer it gets postponed. AJ

I am not sure what else to say, but Robert and I had this conversation via SMS earlier this afternoon. Personally, I do not like any subsidies, discounts, promos, SERO, etc., for anyone. Provide flat rate pricing. However, what we see in this plan is the reality of the current wireless marketplace. It is saturated. The primary traction comes from stealing subs from other providers. AJ

Uh, folks, before you go all apeshit on this plan, have you viewed the table that Ian posted on a previous page? For clarity, I will repost it here: Examine the three bulleted conditions for migrating existing accounts. Many of you can meet just one those conditions. And that is all you need. So, do not be so rushed to judgment. AJ

For the time being, everyone can keep discussing in this thread the new Family Share Pack and promo. But staff will likely split this off into a new thread in the near future. So, pay attention. Additionally, note that Claure is quoted as saying that new individual plans will be forthcoming later this week. AJ

Yes, that is a relatively well known workaround. And it is no problem. Clearly, Google has an agreement with the Wall Street Journal that allows a query to link through the paywall. Or, if Google has no such agreement, then it takes the heat, which Google can afford but S4GRU cannot. AJ

Marcelo Claure may be a native Spanish speaker. But are you calling him illiterate? That would be somewhat ironic. AJ

Staff has had to edit your post. And we already went through this in another thread earlier today. We know you mean well in sharing info, but DO NOT copy and paste full text articles from other sites -- especially if they are behind a paywall, such as with the Wall Street Journal. That is copyright infringement and could lead to the end of S4GRU. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/1197-s4gru-posting-guidelines-aka-the-rulez/ AJ

No, show me that IGZO has been utilized in any iOS devices. It has been talked about, no doubt. But my understanding is that it has yet to be implemented. AJ -
To The Bat Cave! A Peak into Verizon's Underground Shelter
WiWavelength replied to KD8JBF's topic in General Topics
Sixty feet underground in Kansas City, this is almost assuredly in the Hunt Midwest SubTropolis. It is a unique situation that does not apply to many other cities. I would not read too much into it for VZW. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubTropolis AJ -

Not IGZO. You are over simplifying/generalizing this. Reports are that the Aquos Crystal handsets will use IGZO technology screens. Whether that proves correct and IGZO provides an advance over IPS type screens remain to be seen. But, either way, the result can support my points about "specsmanship" and screen resolution. AJ
