Chicago is Verizon's 20MHz FDD market, speeds approaching 140Mbps.
I bet it doesn't take long to go over your data cap...

Well said. I wonder what speeds XLTE brings anyways. No one knows yet. Just wait till Sprint brings/dominates with 1Gbps

Everyone is working on increasing speeds now. May be interesting to see how this plays out.

Why can't Sprint simply repurpose the Nextel spectrum in the Seattle area for LTE if it's an area where they already provided service? Why does switching from iDEN to CDMA/LTE make any difference within the same coverage footprint?
Sprint has repurposed iDEN for 800 MHz or band 26. They can't implement it up here yet because of IBEZ. Once the US and Canada come to an agreement, Sprint can start implementing band 26 up here. Hope that answers your question.

I got that notification last week and while the voice coverage is better the data is still poor. Still a work in progress though.

On another note, here's a link to a screenshot of the speeds I acquired on B41 this morning (4th Ave S/S Seattle St) down by CenturyLink field. This is the fastest I've seen.

Is anyone planning on going to PAX Prime this year in Seattle? Tickets are expected to go on sale either today or tomorrow.

Has anyone ever considered the fact that this doesn't have to be a merger? It could be a sharing agreement. All this talk of a merger has been based on Son's T-Mobile comments when Dish was fighting for Sprint and Clear. Maybe what is going on is a massively Epic LTE network sharing agreement like EE in the UK. DT is half owner in that deal, so why can't they work on the same thing here in the US with SoftBank/Sprint?

That is a very interesting thought. I have never thought of it this way. I think this would be better than any merger.
Great point. And could they bid together on 600 if they did that?

I don't think they would be able to bid together but they would be able to bid because they are 2 separate companies. But maybe I'm wrong.

Apparently Tmobile wants a break up fee of 1 billion plus
I don't know about that fee. I have a bad feeling about it. I guess it depends if they get money and spectrum, or just one of those. Only time will tell.

Actually, I think we are very sensitive to Sprint bashing. I think an equal amount of people hate on Verizon, AT&T and T-mobile. The entire industry has a bad reputation. Let the haters hate. Web blogs/sites are not representative of the average user.
I wasn't referring to people on this site. Just things I have seen and heard from the general public. Friends, family, other websites don't like Sprint. It doesn't bother me. That is their own opinion. But I do agree the industry has a bad reputation, we just don't know any better.
-
Do you mean their reputation getting better over the next five years, because that might be true. It takes along time to rebuild a brand, but if you are talking about the network taking five years to improve I think you time table is way off. You have addition 1900 carriers going online, small cells being deployed, 800 lte carrier being deployed and a dense deployment of 2.6 in the top hundred markets (not fast enough in my mind) over the next year and 8months. The next will be vastly improved in the next two years and in the top 100 markets great improvement.
utiz, I do mean their reputation. I should have specified.

Hesse is the CEO I would prefer. He did about as good a job as it was possible to do with given where it was at when he took over.
While I agree with that, we are a select few who actually see the truth behind it. The general public hates Sprint and people like Legere because of his attitude and how he gets things done; and because he isn't with Sprint.
-
It's pretty bad on The Verge and Google+. Mostly people spewing stuff along the lines of "Don't ****ing buy T-Mobile! Don't let them do it O Holy John!", "I already left because of 'Broken Promises™'", and "Eww, not Sprint in the news again! Is it possible to throttle below zero?!". Hating on Sprint is very popular, and unfortunately I don't see it getting better any time soon.
Oh, and The Verge is calling throttling a "threat".
I hate to agree with you but the majority of people are bashing Sprint. They complain about poor customer service, lies of a good network, no/poor service, etc. Sprint has a horrible reputation with the general public and as caspar said, I also don't see it getting better for at least 5 years.

While I don't like Legere as much as Hesse, I think Legere would be a great person to have if Sprint and T-Mobile merge. People still dis Sprint and at least if Legere was CEO people would have a higher chance of following him. He is more boisterous than Hesse and he can change things up. While I would rather have Hesse with Sprint, if Legere becomes the CEO, Son will control him and slap him on the wrists if he does something naughty.
-
I don't mind if Sprint does this. I mean I only use an upward of 2GB a month currently, but doing this will put less burden on the network and help everyone enjoy a more consistent speeds and than having someone taking up more bandwidth while others get less. I think it's fair.

What if Legere is just playing Sprint into getting more money and spectrum? He may say he wants this and at the last moment says he doesn't. Wouldn't that mean there is the breakup fee and T-Mobile gets it or does it depend on who breaks it off?
-
I got a text yesterday saying the new network is here, though I'm still on 3G with okay speeds around .84 down or -98dbm and passable voice coverage with -88dbm. Though I'm only on a GS3, so no triband for me.
-
Sprint is paying for T-Mobile's customers and spectrum, not their network. I am sure certain network elements will be reused, certain T-Mobile sites will become NV sites.
I agree, I think Sprint and Son in general want their spectrum, customers and more towers to have a bigger scale. I think with the added towers, it would provide them a larger footprint in the US.
-
I still find it amazing how almost everyone is against it just because they think Sprint sucks. They have no knowledge of what is actually going on unlike us here. While overall I think it would be good is Sprint bought T-Mobile, I have a feeling that would cause more headache in the long-term. Would Sprint then redo part of its network to implement the new frequencies? It's hard to say until we hear more. I read they may announce something within the next couple of months.
-
I have been so against it, but I have changed my mind.
What made you change your mind?
