  1. the new My Way plans your discount comes off the data portion of each line. so for 5 lines each getting unlimited data at $30/line it would be

    30*.18*5 = $27 total discount.

Even if it works that way, I'm still at $52.72 per line in my current plan and $63.49 in the new.  Even the new plan with ten lines comes in at $56.95 per line in total.

  2. I get an 18% discount, but it only applies to the main line.  So, with my current plan, it gets applied to the $110, under the new My Way plan, it only applies to the $50 fee.  I really hate how they work that, because we also get a similar discount with Verizon, only they apply it to your entire bill (minus fees and taxes) instead of your main line (according to the only co-worker I know that's on Verizon).

However, V doesn't have unlimited data, and combined across all 4 current lines, we used an average of 8gb per month for the past three months.

As long as they don't force me to change my plan when I upgrade my phone, then everything will be fine.

  3. Okay, I'm about to add a new line to my family account, and upgrade phones on the secondary and main accounts.  So, naturally, I'm looking at the plans as well.

It seems like the new Unlimited My Way plan is a step back from my current Everything Data Family 1500 plan in almost every way, and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

First, the only advantage I see of the the Unlimited plan is the unlimited minutes versus shared minutes.  However, thanks to the free cell to cell calls on the Everything plan, we only use an average of 200-300 actual plan minutes per month.  So, the advantage is non existent at this time.

As far as advantage of the Everything plan versus unlimited:

    • cheaper (at 5 lines which I will have once I add my brother) it ends up around $52 per person after my discount on the main line.  Even run out to ten lines for maximum savings, the "Unlimited" plan still works out to $64 a line.
    • Fuzzy on this one, but the unlimited data, I believe, extends to roaming data, where the new "Unlimited" plan limits roaming data to 100mb per line per month.
    • Fuzzy, again, but I've read about data throttling on the new "Unlimited" plan.  I haven't seen this with the "Everything" plans, so I'm wondering if this is another draw back.

It seems like a no brainer, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Obviously, if I want to move beyond the 5 lines, or if shared minutes become a concern, I will be forced to swap plans, but at this time, I don't see that happening.

Would they end up forcing people out of these old plans?  Can they?

  4. If you don't need simultaneous voice and LTE data, then there's little reason not to use your upgrades on a tri-band device- it will provide greater data speed and coverage than a single-band device like the HTC One.

Okay, I glossed over this initially, and I'm catching up on the tri-band info here, slowly but surely, but are you telling me that tri-band phones will not allow simultaneous voice and LTE data usage?

So, for instance, I can't talk on the phone and watch... adult themed videos?  lol  (I was going to go with talk and use navi, but this sounds better).

Can I do that with a single-band device like the One?

Edit:  Also, if I wanted to ask questions about Sprint plans to make sure my analysis is correct, where would I post it?

  5. The best part about their warranty service is the fact that they also cover water damage.  It's the main reason I've stuck with them (after dropping my previous phone in the ceramic throne... before flushing).

  6. They send it out to their repair facility and the repair facility will fix and return it, or send back a refurbished unit in it's place.  I've replaced mine 3 times so far.  Takes a couple of days, and they will normally charge you a $50 refundable fee if you need them to give you a replacement phone to use while repairs are being completed.

  7. Okay, what is the "spark" edition, and outside of the model number, how can I tell the difference?

This must be what my mom feels like when I start helping her to buy a computer, lol.  I just haven't kept up with cell tech since I got my last phone.

  8. I appreciate the input, thanks!  I'm not going to drop that much cash on something to tide me over a few months though, I still like my HTC enough that it should get me through, plus with wife has been out of work for a while, so money is a little tight.

  9. Amazon has the S4 and the One for free as an upgrade, and the Nexus 5 for $20, so price isn't really a factor.  I see a lot of Nexus 5 love, and I almost skipped it completely.  What makes it stand out?

  10. Hey guys, love the wealth of knowledge and great opinions here.  I need some help.

My wife is due for a new phone at the first of the year.  I'm adding my brother to my plan at the same time.  I'm due for a new phone 4 weeks later.

I'm hoping for some personal experiences, advice, opinions etc.

Wife:  Current phone is the Galaxy S2.  She likes it.  Uses it mostly for talking and streaming music (on WiFi).  Leaning toward the S4.

Brother:  Currently using an LG phone that he hates and is on some cheap plan.  Gets no reception on it at work.  Uses his phone mostly for talking (business - he's in sales), texting, decent amount of data as well.  Call quality/reception is a key concern.  Considering the HTC One of the Nexus 5.

Me:  Currently using the HTC 4G LTE.  Hate the Samsung overlay, love the HTC overlay.  Some calls, mostly text/data.  Considering the One or the Nexus 5.

Thoughts?  Advice?  Other things we should consider?

  11. After much delay, and the painful experience of piggybacking off of some pathetically slow free wi-fi in my home town while at work, I am very pleased to finally see 4G in DeLand, FL!

  12. For those complaining about minor issues here and there, have you performed a hard reset? This wasn't exactly a minor update so a hard rest should be performed.

I was hoping to avoid this, but I gave in this morning. It fixed all the issues I was having.

  13. Yep the idiots at HTC did that making the WiFi turn off at midnight and back on a 7.. Just one the very many things fixed in aftermarket roms.

Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge

Actually, I like this. If I happen to be up, it connects quickly enough, and I sure appreciate the impact is has on the battery.

  14. The odd thing, and maybe I changed this without realizing it, but... On my new phone, the battery life wasn't nearly as good. Turns out, it wasn't turning Wi-Fi off over night in sleep mode and the Wi-Fi was set for "best Experience", so the battery was steady draining all night. Once I switched back, all was right in Evo land again.
