  1. Honestly $200 is way too much for me to spend on a router, for what I do with it.

For most people it is. I do a lot of transfers from my home server setup to various computers and it also lets me encrypt traffic at router. I upgraded from an N66 (already sold, sorry) and it was a very solid router. Here is one for $58 that ends in 7 hours:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-RT-N66U-DARK-KNIGHT-Wireless-Router-/261595312222?pt=COMP_EN_Routers&hash=item3ce84bb05e

  2. I am on TWC right now currently at 100/10 and I have a ASUS AC-68 router (I think I bought this for ~170-200 on eBay) with a Zoom 5341J Modem ($58 at walmart right now, I got mine on eBay for $40 or so). This is a really impressive modem and I get slightly better signal on it than an SB6141.

I highly recommend the ASUS routers. AC-68 is probably overkill but an AC-66 would work great.

  3. Thanks for this as it does confirm what most of our impressions were regarding the refocusing of 2.5GHz plans. However, this was a terribly written article and it felt more like I was reading a 5th grader's book report than an article about Sprint's rollout plans.

"However at Communacopia some analysts and media seemed to misunderstand the Sprint. So I spoke with Sprint to get a clarification. Dan Wright from Sprint Corporate Communications said nothing had changed about their plan so there should be no confusion. That was good to hear."

"This is an important lesson for every company to learn. Make sure every word that you say is clear and helpful. Any confusion will create a confusing mix of stories that will keep the marketplace confused. And the marketplace does not like confusion. They like to understand clearly every step of the journey."

    Eugh..

Edit: What a coward. The author deleted my comments on the article.

  4. Buying the router (obviously discounted for T-Mobile customers) to flash it and not use it for it's intended purpose seems like a scumbag move to me.

I mean geez, you can get a used AC-66 for like $100-125 on eBay. No reason to ruin the promotion for T-Mobile customers that actually have a use for it.

  5. Not sure if this is the right thread but I have noticed that ONLY CLEARWIRE sites seem to be able to hit the really high speeds I see on B41 connections. I have an EVO3D and the very few speedy WiMax sites that I historically connected to appear to copy exactly the only areas I get very high speed connections here in Austin. Otherwise the speeds CAN be quick (10-20 max down) but only these few areas seem to get very high speeds.

Is that because backhaul on the Sprint owned towers is poor or because these towers handle ONLY B41 and no other LTE bands..or both?

  6. It'd be nice if they add airports to their list. Very discouraging to fly around the country and get weak or slow service at the airports.

I totally agree with you. Sprint probably has the weakest network at airports across the country. I've lately been to Austin, DFW, Detroit airports and all 3 were 1) low signal levels 2) If triband capable had VERY low speeds of ~1-2Mbps.

  7. Hey everyone I wanted to bring this up because I haven't seen this being discussed anywhere else. Feel free to merge this with another topic if needed.

So basically I noticed when I logged onto my sprint.com account today that clicking on my "contract details" I was offered to extend for 1 year and receive an $80 credit for each line on my ED1500 plan. It looks to be a loyalty perk of some sort, and I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere.

I haven't signed up for the credit yet because I'm afraid it might affect my upgrade eligibility, since we are all almost due for new phones. If it doesn't impact it, this seems like a hell of a deal they are offering current customers!

So is the deal they give you $80 to not get a new phone? or is it just open ended?

  8. Yeah Cox here has also doubled for "free" their upper two tiers of internet speeds and rolling out "free"

wifi in spots for its customers...something tells me these cable monopolies are starting to run scarrrred!!

Cable companies giving out freebees...never believed I'd live long enough to see it...good old

    capitalistic competition at work here....

Yeah the 100/10 I have now is nice but the process involved 2 weeks of almost total downtime. It is actually the reason I came BACK to Sprint from Ting because I realized if I had to rely on my home internet for work which often involves some quite large files I might not have a reliable connection in an emergency.

My internet went out for an hour today during the rain storms we are having.

  9. Contacted Sprint asking why the shipping time was 4-6 weeks even though I ordered right when the store opened. Looks like sprint has no iPhone 6+ stock ready for the 19th?

    ldkrEC6.png

This is an Apple problem,  not a Sprint problem. My Dad was told the same at AT&T.

  10. Here is another price point example;

    for 6+/128gig $950

    on 2 year contract

    $499 + taxes, + ((extra $35 month over the $50 plan on easypay/lease) * 24 months) = $1399

essentially, the 2 year contract makes you pay the LEASE cost + the upfront subsidized price.

Correct. The 2 year price is a ripoff unless you are already on a subsidized plan. Even the iPhone 6 16GB ends up costing an extra $236 over easypay

  11. Hey Everyone,

Was a sprint customer around a year ago. Left when the Nexus 5 came out.

My wife and I Joined T-mo, left after three months and  we have been with AT&T ever since.

I just found out that my employer has a 23% discount, which would mean we could get on the share pack for $77 + Tax.

I have one big question, have you all had any issues.

    1. Activating unlocked N5's on sprint?

    2. Had any issues using those N5's on sprint?

While I am in the black hole that is nTelos country, I am paying a little over $120 right now on AT&T so saving $35-40 a month is quite appealing to me..even with the abysmal 3G in the area.

wasn't sure where this belonged..sorry if its in the wrong forum.

Hey, sorry about your bad experience.

FWIW, I took my Google bought N5 from Ting (Sprint MVNO) to T-Mobile and now to Sprint proper. One of the issues I ran into was some of the employees at my non corporate store did not know how to handle a N5. Mostly it came down to having to assign the SIM and also how to get the right IMEI. I went to the corporate store and they did not have an issue.

  12. If you are like me and you have the original SERO-P plan you pay $40 plus $10 Prem Data and you get the Subsidy!! The new plan is lease only.

And the 500 minutes plan has unlimited CELL to CELL any carrier! Unlimited nights and weekends all for 50.  Unlimited TXT and FREE ROAMING!!! DATA AND PHONE!!

Correct. For users like yourself I doubt there will ever be a plan to match yours. Don't forget to divide your downpayment cost across the 24 months. So your cost is actually ~$58.30 + tax. Either way for the privileged few SERO-P is an excellent plan.

  13. I've seen phones on eBay that have been carrier unlocked go for $475-500. Do Swappa phones hit that high? (Just curious, because I can still pull my auction if that's the case).

There is a Sprint 5S 64GB for $660 right now but I think that is someone being hopeful. 64GB phones do tend to hold their premium pretty well.

  14. Ok, let me make sure I got this straight.  This proposed iPhone for Life (hereafter i4L) plan, is that $50 total or $50 + $10 smartphone fee?

If so, here's how my current plan would stack up against the i4L plan if I'm reading everything right.  If I'm doing this right, I would save almost $200 over two years by switching to the i4L plan AND also get unlimited minutes (not that I've ever gone over).  I'm currently on one of those SERO plans.

So is there any reason for me NOT to change to the i4L plan?

Yes. The plan is $50 + $20 for the phone as outlined here http://www.sprint.com/landings/iphone/ Check https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L4FXkfyfM69LNJ6-vJ0baMZxdSWJ8N8aQNS_vVd5XOM/ for how much the plan will cost yearly.

So you gain unlimited talk out of the deal and it costs you $1680 on i4L plan over 2 years vs the $1978.86 you outline here. It is a better savings than you calculated.

Do Sero plans qualify for employer discounts?

Edit: Getting the i4L with Tep ($11/mo?) is cheaper than your current plan W/O insurance. Cool deal.

  15. While some might see that as a photocopy of T-Mobile's move, I still think this could be a great idea.

If they copy T-Mobile by letting both new AND existing customers take advantage of promotions then that would be great.

What Sprint needs to do is get some low cost Spark phones for Boost and Virgin and cheaper Sprint customers that are on outdated singleband LTE or even WIMAX phones and really relieve pressure on the whole network.

edit: While I was typing this IamMrFamous07 posts a link talking about sub $100 Spark phones . . . creepy

  16. This will be interesting as I have seen some sites in my city of around 100k perform worse than some in DFW, San Antonio, Austin, and some better. I'm more curious if at the initial new strategy will be these High capacity strained sites get some b41, leaving more swiss cheese coverage at the initial part.

Yeah there are some places in SA and Austin that remain simply AWFUL. Like my post above all it takes is a single upgrade to improve the experience for everyone. By getting my Nexus 5 onto B41 they not only make the experience better for me but it also relives the non triband users of my congestion.

  17. The $50 plan applies to either iPhone 6 or 6+. Leases starts at $20 for the iPhone 6 - 16GB and go up to $35 for the iPhone 6+ - 128GB http://v2.twice.com/news/smartphones/sprint-promote-new-iphones-50-unlimited-plan/53962

Also, according to http://www.sprint.com/landings/iphone/ and the reps I talked to the $50 plan is NOT eligible for employer discounts. Just saying because people have already asked me about it on the pricing spreadsheet I made.

  18. Sprint will also be doing this: Buy iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and trade in any iPhone in working condition and meets all standard buyback condition requirements, buy back value will be $200. I see sprint getting a lot of newcomers.

Can you link the offer? If current subs are eligible this seems like not too bad of a deal. I have a iphone 4 (not in use) and an iphone 5 I would trade in towards an Iphone 6 if it is $200 per...

  19. Focusing on B41 for high usage sites is what makes the difference, period. I mean that is what T-Mobile has done for it's network rollout, right? They did the downtown core areas first and then went outward and this seems like the best approach to please the most people

This is in S. Austin in an area I was getting only 6-7 down on my wife's iphone 5. My phone supports B41 and it is a game changer here for me. Taken yesterday:

  20. http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/9/6129107/sprint-angling-iphone-6-buyers-with-free-iphone-for-life-leasing-plan

One thing to consider with the leasing program is that if you break it you buy it, regardless of if it happens the first day you get your phone, or the day before you have to send it back — at least if you don't have insurance. According to Sprint's senior vice president of product David Owens, the majority of the company's customers already pay for that." We don’t require it, but we’d encourage it," Owens toldThe Verge.

I am sort of surprised it isn't a requirement or somehow built into the price/an option like T-Mobile Jump..
