  1. Thanks Robert, and everyone, for the helpful info. Glad to hear that Raleigh/Durham made the second round list.

One other question on the map image that's in the announcement from today, is the actual map itself is available? I'd like to be able to click around and find where some cell sites are. I've used Open Signal on my android phone to try to find which tower I'm connecting to but when I drove past where it's telling me the tower is I don't find a tower.

I see a few towers in the area, a few miles away, but I don't know which is Sprint versus Verizon, AT&T, etc. And those are a bit south of where it's telling me I'm connected.

It is not public. It's my own personal resource. It is something I am trying to work out logistics for to open up to our S4GRU Sponsor members. But will likely involve accepting a confidentiality agreement to get access to.

  2. The deployment within a market is variable. However, it appears that Sprint NV Contractors are deploying entire markets within a deployment, not just the chief cities. In Chicago, Austin and Boston, it appears they are starting out in the rurals and working their way in toward the denser parts of the markets. This does not guarantee all markets will work this way.

If this trend holds, most likely this will occur in the RDU market first. Start in the southern part of the market around Fayetteville area and work their way up around the Raleigh/Durham perimeter. Then start working their way in the 540 loop. That would be my guess.

As we get more specific info about deployment within a market, we will pass it on to all of you. So far, Chicago is the only market I have received in-depth cluster deployment schedules for.

  3. I also think it is a good idea for Sprint to build out the PR/VI market. It's only ~250 sites. They can bang that out relatively quickly. Get in and get out. Serve a very dense population. Also, Puerto Ricans have been a very good and loyal customer base. I have been talking with quite a few PR customers the past few weeks. And they deserve to have their market done just as much as any other market.

I always find it amazing how people think their markets should be first and other markets aren't as worthy. I actually think that Puerto Rico makes more sense than some other markets. Like West Michigan. However, I won't take away from all the customers in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo either who really want Network Vision. I live in Albuquerque market, and I can make an argument why we should be in the first round too. However, we are in the final round. And I'm OK with that. I congratulate my Puerto Rican brothers on scoring some NV action. Just makes me want to consider a vacation to the Isle of Enchantment.

  4. Good idea. A little pricey but if you have several WiMax phones in the family and your going to keep them for a couple of years it might be a worthwhile investment. With the price and demand for WiMax phones going down I'm surprised that this unit is still that expensive. I'm sure in a month or so it may come down in price as well.

Sure makes you think of the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, they could have sold had this been brought to market 12 to 24 months ago.

  5. Hi guys, I'm new in site. I really appreciate all the information that you guys specially Robert are shearing. I Just wanted to say that I think that most of the NV should be up and running befor 2013. If you guys think about it, Sprint got a big contract with apple selling the iPhone. I'm more than sure that the next iPhone will have the LTE just like the new iPad. I'm almost positive that following the tradition on apple reveling the new iPhone on October, Sprint needs to be sure that its VN is up and running for that realize day.

Welcome to S4GRU. I sure appreciate your optimism. And the iPhone will certainly be a big factor in Sprint's urgency of deploying Network Vision. However, for them to be largely complete by 2013, it will include an acceleration that their internal schedules are not yet projecting.

I hope to see you around the forums! We also have another liver chat scheduled for Tuesday night at 9:30 PM Mountain time.
