  1. Anyone here jump from the nexus 5? If so how is data performance compared to the nexus 5? I'm constantly on 3g with my nexus 5 in a city where Sprint is really focused on and would switch in a heartbeat if the new nexus held onto a lte signal better.  Thanks.

Radio seems better to me in that regard.  I feel it hangs onto LTE for a long time.

However, if you text a lot the duplicate and delayed SMS issue will drive you nuts if you have it.  Basically it makes texting while on LTE unbearable.  If you're on 3G a lot you will not really notice it.

  2. If you have band 26 coverage, you undoubtedly have 1x 800 voice coverage and don't need the Airave anymore. I say unplug the Airave and test it.

If that doesn't work, call Sprint and yell.

Ahh, thank you.  I was unaware that voice would be switching to a lower frequency.  That seems to make sense to me why my phone won't drop off in my basement even though I didn't get voice down there before or not very good anyway.

I will test it out and see what happens.  My wife has a Note 2 so I will have to keep the Airave around unless the Note 2 can use 1x800 voice but it would be nice knowing I may be able to get rid of it when she upgrades her phone.

  3. Sprint's official stance is that you need to disable LTE to use an Airave with a tri-band device.

That's too bad.  So, if someone is inside a building and has low signal on band 26 is it safe to assume they are basically without voice coverage if they shut off LTE?

  4. Just recently the Nexus 5 upgraded to 4.4.3.  This upgrade apparently enabled the band 41 and 26 on this phone.  Before this update I could not get LTE in my house.  I could get it outside I believe on band 25 (I just yesterday learned how to check which band I am connected to).  When I would go inside it would drop and connect to my Airave (3G only).

Now, after 4.4.3, inside my house I seem to only connect to band 26 and get about 2-3 bars LTE upstairs on my main level and between 0-1 bars in my finished basement where I spend a lot of time but it never hands off to the Airave anymore, ever...It remains connected to band 26 even at 0 bars in my basement.  Even after a phone reboot it reconnects to band 26 at 0-1 bars signal.

My question is what happens if/when I receive (if I even can) a phone call in my basement while connected to LTE band 26?  I thought the Nexus 5 had to switch to 3G or 1x or something for calls?  Will my phone automatically connect to the Airave if a call comes through in that situation or do I basically have data but no phone reception now since it stays connected to band 26 even though it's 0 bars of signal?  I have not received a call in my basement since the update nor have I had anyone complain they couldn't reach me so I just don't know.

Since I am on wifi at home anyway (even with LTE coverage my wifi is much faster) I feel the best situation would be to always connect to the Airave both for reception and for battery savings. However, I cannot make the phone do that apparently.

  5. I wonder how he was discovered?  I drop data connection all the time (and sometimes calls) but just figure it's the network being shitty again.  I wonder if I've ever been jammed?

Edit - Ahh, I see it was discovered because of the regularity and time of day it was occurring.

  6. I've read it will be the end of this year and late 2015 or sometime in 2016 we will see 1gbps

With Sprint it is always what is coming eventually.  I have been hearing that since 2010 when I got my first wimax phone.  I am still hearing it with my triband Nexus 5 in Minneapolis.  It gets annoying to hear them always preaching about what is coming and how good it will be.  Their coverage and price are acceptable to me though so I stay and hope it comes true for me at some point.

  7. Sprint needs to only show that Spark icon when connected to a Band 41 site with upgraded backhaul. Otherwise, Spark is going to have a bad reputation right out the gate.

Man you hit the nail right on the head.  The comments and that article are fine.  He went to areas that the public was told would have Spark. He did regular tests.  His phone had the little Spark icon.  It makes perfect sense the reaction people are showing in that situation.  I would imagine a fraction of 1% of Sprint users would know to look at an engineering screen in their phone.

Even Sprint customer service wouldn't know if you called them and asked why it was slower.

  8. People don't understand that upgrading/replacing a network completely doesn't happen overnight. In some areas, the NV upgrades can't come fast enough, therefore people leave. The only problem I've seen is that current LTE markets such as Miami (where I live), speeds are starting to drop to very low levels.... 1-2 mbps. About three weeks ago I was in NYC, and in some area's LTE/3G was almost nothing - no data, couldn't send/receive iMessages.... But I'm hanging onto Sprint...  5 years and counting.

For some it is going on 4+ years now.

  9. If your phone is rooted the app CatLog can give you the MSL number.

InvalidPassword posted this in a nother thread.

Open Catlog grant root permission and acknowledge pop-ups.

    Switch to your dialer

    Type *#*#3282#*#*

Got to the LTE menu, choose edit
Where it asks for your service code switch back to Catlog and pause the app

    Search for LG_SVC_ITEMS

It should filter the list down to a few items. One of these items should have a length of 6, you can click on this and there should be a 6 digit number this is your MSL.

  10. I'll be that guy.  To the people who aren't in a spark area and have been waiting since the wimax rollout for 4G this is just more of Sprint's promises that likely will not be delivered as they are presented.  It is the number of years Sprint takes to do anything that seems to wear on people even if they are actually working fast.  It just doesn't seem like they are really delivering on all of their NV/LTE announcements when you have been waiting years for better data speeds.  I am sure "by the end" Sprint's network will be in fine shape.  Let's just hope there are enough people around to enjoy it.

  11. Thanks for the info

I can't seem to see what the power output is of each. I may decide which Nokia model based on that.

Those of y'all with them, are you seeing normal (3-4 hours) charge times that are generally equivalent to USB powering?

Also anyone know the amp output of stock wall charger? 1.0?

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk

    Stock charger is 1.2 amps.

The back of the Nokia DT-900 charger plate says Input: 750mA and the plug that goes into the wall says Output 0.75 Amps.  I believe the wall adapter plug is giving the wireless charger plate that much power, 0.75amps or 750mA.  No idea how much of that is converted or output to the wireless charging for the phone though.  There is no Output listed on the charger plate itself.  I am sure many things affect how well it works, including cases.  Even if it was 100% efficient that means at most it is 750mA.

I set my phone on the plate around midnight or 1am and it is charged when I get up around 7am.  I think the lowest I have had the battery is around 4%.

  12. This.  :(

I'd like to contact Sprint, see if I can get a timeframe, but I can't imagine it'll do any good.  As most people are aware of, front line reps will more than likely be clueless about a technical issue like this, much less a time frame on a fix, and it's just an exercise in futility to try to get to anyone that would know.  Then, of course, you wonder if the information is correct, given that I've gotten more bad information than good when asking questions to either CS or in store reps.

It sucks, I wish I at least knew an end is in sight.  It's good to hear that Samsung is making a lot of progress....elsewhere, but still good.  It'll get fixed when it gets fixed, I'd just like to know up front if that's a week or a year at this point.

As the weather gets colder I am leaning more and more toward 5 months or more.  I don't think they do much in the winter.  Probably a bunch of southerners on the crews and anything below 32 means no working outside.

Honestly, I have been having a better time stuck on 3G during my commute than I was flip-flopping back and forth between really weak LTE that was about 0.5 Mbps and 3G when I had my Galaxy S3.  The time needed to hand off was really annoying.  I am hoping when it does go live the LTE will at least be more reliable once it does switch from 3G.

  13. The AT&T chargers sound too good to be true... Has anyone been using them for a little while that can still vouch for them?

    Thanks.

I have used one for three nights now.  I drop it on when I go to bed and and pick it up in the morning and the battery stats show it as charged.  So far I am happy with it.

  14. I know in one of those dialer menus Global is listed as CDMA, GSM, LTE and LTE mode is listed as CDMA, LTE.  What that means?  I don't know.  I just know global works.  I also think GSM isn't useful to me.  So, yeah.  If there was some sort of battery savings in using LTE mode I would otherwise I will not worry.

  15. Another good text app is 8sms. It's the AOSP one.

Nice, I like this one a lot.  Textra is nice and simple as well but 8sms is basically the stock Android app.  Both of these seem to work with Lightflow for me as well.

I got Handcent to finally work with Lightflow as well as long as I turned off the popup completely.  I like the popup though and 8sms works with the popup.

  16. Thanks, I just downloaded this and set it up.  Have you noticed any ill-effects on battery life?  It mentions that it could cause wake issues (device unable to sleep)...  Unfortunately, just got the phone yesterday so I won't be a good sample but I'll keep everyone posted.

I used it for two days but then had to uninstall it because it cannot reliably deal with handcent.  I noticed no battery issues.  I have also used Light Manager and that works just as well with no battery issues but it also cannot deal with handcent well.  Just install it for a day and check the battery stats after you charge up your phone.  It will use more battery when you initially set it up but during a day of normal use it probably won't even be on your battery list.

For now I am using nothing which means I have to rely on each app having it's own notification options which works fine for K9 Mail and Handcent but for some reason google decided missed phone calls do not need the notification lighting up.

  17. I wouldn't say that he promised full functionality in 3-6 months, it was just that the towers nearest my house near downtown MPLS were listed as slated for upgrades in 3-6 months. So I would consider that more of a lower bound, unless I'm misunderstanding things.

I could see an issue like this changing the timeline as well. If they are willing to do the work in the winter. 3-6 months would put the work back in the spring at the 4 month point. That's the only reason I could see them waiting.

  18. Is there a way to have the notification light on when it is charging? Not a huge deal but used to seeing it come on when you plug it in to charge. I tried dogging through the menu and display options and couldn't find it.

    Sent from my Nexus 5

I use Lightflow. It takes over your notification light completely so anything you want using the notification light you would set up through Lightflow. I have mine set so the light is red while charging and turns off at 100%.
