  1. Someone plotted (in Sunnyvale) Fremont Ave @ Sunnyvale-Saratoga Rd and I knew that had to be a new tower.

Drove around the Fremont High area for 15 minutes and couldn't find anything... then I looked at the site maps to find the other nearby tower, and ended up driving circles around most of the Braly Park neighborhood and the CVS shopping center.

There goes an hour and a half.

  2. I hope that's not really your real residence. Some shady people might your address against you. Maybe you sensor this part of the screenshot?
    Thats the server location

Monterey Park is the server location. 34.13935,-118.26026 is the approximate location of your backyard. :)

  3. I've been unable to connect to the new one by 880/Montague that I found twice last week (and was added to the Sponsor-only "NV Sites Complete" thread.) Tried last night and today.

First time that I've been unable to connect to previously-found LTE. I only tried for a few minutes though.

  4. Does Sensorely show them too?

Sensorly will show them only if someone drove by with the app running.

Also, seeing a new tower light up isn't always super obvious, since it may be adjacent to an existing tower.

In the past week, I've personally mapped some coverage in these three areas (with new towers on in the past week):

    1) Montague @ 880 (not to be confused with Great Mall area's coverage)

    2) N Fair Oaks Ave @ Central Expy (not to be confused with existing Central Expy coverage)

    3) 880 between Stevenson Blvd and Cushing Pkwy/Fremont Blvd.

I also added some mere dots near the SJC airport, and noticed someone else added some more by Eastridge Mall (another tower turned on there.) Also, 85 by De Anza Blvd. .. and 101 @ Rengstorff (by the Google campus.)

In other news, my 3G has been dropping extremely frequently at my desk this morning. I hope that means there's some work going on!

  5. I haven't seen much expansion is this market for the last two weeks. It used to be that you could find new towers weekly, but hard to say if work is done to prep more towers or if people and equipment have been sent to help out LA and other markets.

In the South Bay, I can name 5 towers that I swear weren't on a week ago.

  6. Took 880 from Montague to Union City.. looks like some tower(s) near Auto Mall Pkwy/Cushing Pkwy turned on.

Also, I'm not really sure how I got LTE on 880 from Montague to Tasman.. it wasn't there on my way back down.. will have to investigate later.

  7. I just plotted a bunch of solid purple in an area with no LTE. Took my phone/Sensorly some 20 seconds of driving with "4G" (but packets couldn't be sent) before it realized that I drove out of range. :(

I find that you will see bright green on the Sensorly map for your house if your phone connects to your Airave and/or Wi-Fi while you are running Sensorly.

Seems to definitely be the case. I can always stop mapping before my phone detects the Airave, and start mapping after I've disconnected from the Airave, but it'll still collect data with the app open when I'm at home.. on the Airave.

Going to try setting Sensorly's contribution level to "not allowed", such that it doesn't auto-collect when the app is open (but should still collect during Map Trip, which I always do.)

edit: nope, "no contribution" means no automatic contribution AND no manual contribution. sigh..

    to reiterate, i'd like:

    1) manual start/stop of data collection; the app can be used without collecting data necessarily. (to look at maps and stuff, perhaps)

    2) option to manual start/stop data upload

    3) option to upload data in a more obvious (non-automatic) fashion.

    4) (very wishlist) an option to disable auto-upload when connected to mobile hotspot WiFi (as determined by Android API.) not really necessary if #2 is implemented, though.

sorry for the long demands, but I hope you'll consider them to promote better UX.

  8. High five to whoever mapped De Anza Blvd down to 85, and 85 more south of 280. Looks like someone mapped Kifer too.

At this point it's just a matter of (1) knowing which towers are on, mapping areas around them, and (2) discovering towers that just turned on. Speed isn't as amazing to me anymore, I just want more coverage!

Every day I irrationally wish for LTE to magically turn on on all existing towers.

  9. south bay freeway colored in purple now.

I guess that was me. ;) Went up 237 to 101 to 92, and then back down via 280.

Got my best speed ever so far at 101N to 92W - see attached.

Results are still uploading though.. I accidentally uploaded 2000-3000 points a few hours ago, when I was on my portable hotspot and portable battery. Just got home (I try to upload only at home.)

Connected a little more of 101 from San Mateo to belmont. Now at the mall in Milpitas and get good lte.

We keep crossing the same paths or something :P

  10. Suepr nit-picky here, but can Sensorly (for Android) also add a mobile hotspot restriction? The newer Android APIs have support for detecting which Wi-Fi networks are mobile hotspots.

I have the charging-only and WiFi-only options enabled, and found myself eating up hotspot data since it was uploading. I just happened to be charging at the same time and I forgot about it.

On another note, it could be a better user experience if there was an option to do manual uploading only. Lots of new users are getting confused as to whether or not their results are uploading (it's not super obvious.)

My 2 cents.. thanks for listening!

  11. For those who don't know, FreedomPop launched their free service not too long ago with Sprint/Clear's WiMAX network (please correct me if I'm wrong.) http://slickdeals.ne...h-49-99-deposit

I'm in an area with generally weak WiMAX outside, and usually none inside. In particular, it's not available at my workplace (indoors nor outdoors). I've tried this with my EVO Shift and a coworker's EVO Design.

However, the FreedomPop device gets a great signal and great speeds (7-9Mbps down, 1-1.5Mbps up). I thought they were both running on the same network.. does anyone know what's going on here?

  12. Added some stuff Saturday and Sunday (went up to Daly City via 101 and back down by 280):

    1. Montague between TradeZone/McCandless and Morrill. Someone had uploaded weak coverage here but it was strong/alright for me.
    2. Stevens Creek + Winchester
    3. 101 between Lafayette and Lawrence
    4. 101 by Redwood City/San Carlos/Belmont
    5. 101 by Hillsdale/San Mateo
    6. 85 between 280 and Stevens Creek
    7. (De Anza campus) Stelling Rd between Homestead and McClellan
    8. McClellan between Stelling and De Anza

    Too much info? :P

  13. I'm looking at Sensorly maps of LA area and there's hardly any LTE there given the launch. Compare your map with that of SF Bay Area, and you'd think SF has more LTE than LA.

There is LTE in Reseda,Woodland Hills,Canoga PArk,Burbank,San Fernando and also some people have reported in Pacoima and Northridge...but those last two are not in the map.But La is being turned on very fast.

SF definitely has more than LA. Just look at the maps.
